Ovulation Kits - Minneapolis,MN

I went off the Pill in December, hoping to conceive soon. I last had my period on Jan 5. Assuming I would be on a 28 day cycle (which isn't likely for me off the Pill) we started "trying" every other day on day 14. I am also charting my AM temps and watching for changes in cervical fluid. So far, no signs of ovulation at all. Now what? Anyone tried the ovulation kits and been successful?

What can I do next?

Hi S.-
I know you posted this a while ago. I just wanted to see if you tried an ovulation kit and if so how you liked it. I just bought a clear blue easy one and am going to try it this month. I hope its as easy as it sounds!

Hi S.,
I have had really good success with ovulation kits. The clearblue easy ovulation kit worked in the cases of both my sons. Good luck!

I haven't used the ovulation kits, but I would recommend making sure you try for several days before and after you think you will ovulate.

Good luck:)

S.,

My husband and I had been trying to conceive for about 10 months when I got pregnant but unfortunatley miscarried. I waited 3 months and we started trying again. The second month using the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor we got pregnant. I realized that I didn't ovulate until about day 17 and we always assumed it was more around day 14...So for us it was money well spent!!! Good Luck...

I used a kit called an Ovulation Scope. It can be used over and over. It's like a little microscope. In the morning before eating or brushing your teeth you put some saliva on one end, let it dry, screw the cover back on, and look through the microscope end. If your saliva has a "fernlike" pattern to it you are ovulating, if not it looks like little dots. I used that to conceive my first daughter since I also have irregular periods and never knew when I was going to ovulate.

I highly recommend a ClearBlue Easy fertility monitor!!! We had trouble getting pregnant with our first child and did some fertility treatments that were unsuccessful. I also tried using ovulation kits from walmart, while it helped narrow down "the window of opportunity" they didn't really work for me either. Finally we just got pregnant on our own.
When my son was six months old we started trying for baby #2. I borrowed a fertility monitor from a friend and after only three cycles we were pregnant again! A monitor really tells you exactly which days are the best for conception. If you can find one to borrow then you would only have to purchase the test sticks (a 3 month supply for about $50) The monitors cost about $250, but is well worth it in my opinion. You can also check places like ebay for a used one that is cheaper.

I did try the Clear Blue fertility monitor when we were trying to conceive our daughter. It worked great! It's a little expensive, but go on Ebay and you can get them pretty reasonable on there, also you can go to www.early-pregancy-tests.com and get the monitor and sticks there as well. We tried for a year without BC, clomid or any fertility monitor. Then was put on Clomid. The nice thing is I was able to tell my doc right away whether I ovulated or not, which then told her she needed to up the dosage of the Clomid. Also my cycles were irregular so we knew exactly "when the time was right". Good luck to you and hope this helps! (We are trying to concieve our second, back on the monitor myself...)

I tried getting pregnant the old fashioned way for about 3 months and decided to try an ovulation kit. I got pregnant on the first try and discovered that I was ovulating earlier than the norm. I would definitely recommend it.

It might take your body some time to actually get on a cycle.

Since you just went off the pill & were irregular before you went on it, it may take a month or two before your body settles into a schedule it at all.

Any of the over the counter test should work but try to keep a journal of your temps, cervical fluid & the positive test reluts plus any other symtoms you may feel when you ovulate (bloating, moodiness, pain etc.) this will help you to learn your body's unique signals so that eventually you may just be able to tell what day(s) you are fertile.

There is also a good book called "taking charge of your fertility" that can really help you learn what to look for.

Good luck

I loved the ovulation kit (clear blue) and we were successful the first time out. I tried the temperature but it made me a wreck. A combo of the two can be great. When I went off the pill the length of my cycle was irregular (like before the pill) - 38 days, then 33 days, so I had to guess with the ovulation kit as to when to start it. That is the only trick if you don't have a certain cycle length. Then again it also helps as it can pinpoint your most fertile time. Good luck!

Probably many people have already suggested you look into the book, "Taking Charge of your Fertility" or it might be "Taking Control of your Fertility" by Toni someone or another.

I also suggest that you keep charting. Your body most likely still has hormones from the pill in it yet, so you may not ovulate for a while longer. Everyone is different. But once you have a thermal shift then you at least know that you are back to ovulaing.

Once your cervial fluid is creamy and eggwhite like go ahead and take an ovulation test if you want but the main sign of your fertile phase is to be "swimming in eggwhite" so to say. So, if your cervical fluid resembles that, you're ready. Keep in mind that semen can mask your cervical fluid signs so do kegal exercises 4 to 6 hours AFTER you have sex to eliminate any left over semen.

Read the book, TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTILITY if you have not already. Very helpful. Tons of info and it answered all my questions. This is only our first month of charting but I already learned that I didn't ovulate until day 18....
