Overweight Child
I have a 7 year old daughter who weighs 90 pounds. She is tall for her age, which is a little why she is oveweight, but she also is very round. She doesn't just sit in the kitchen and eat, eat, eat. She eats a well balanced diet. I am going to get her an appointment with a nutritionist to see what else we could do. Also, she is very active in soccer and t-ball. She is the only one in our family overweight. My son is 5 and he is so skinny that you can count his ribs. I can't buy him jeans without the adjustable waist because he is so skinny.
Anyway,
My question is, I am having a very difficult time finding her clothes. I know that Target carries plus size jeans, but shirts and dresses are near impossible to find. I need help where to find clothes to fit a larger size girl.
So What Happened?™
We went to JC Pennys over the weekend. They do have a great selection of plus sized clothes for girls! Thanks everyone.

I am so sorry. I know this is tough. My cousin wore a plus size for a while when she was your daughters age...and I know how tough it was for my step-aunt and my grandmother to find her age appropriate clothing. But here are some great alternatives:
Although JC Penney and Old Navy have great jeans...especially Arizona Brand from JC Penny...some of their clothing can be a bit "old" for a seven year old.
Kellys Kids runs really generous. (Example: my daughter is six, and wears a 6/7 but she can still wear a Kellys Kids size 5/6 in somethings...especially elastic waist.) They are online at www.kellyskids.com and have wonderful age appropriate selections. Although some of it may seem expensive...it wears EXTREMELY well. (Great for resale on consignment.) Another, is LLBean. They have great stuff and school uniforms as well. You can also check Parisians, McRae's, and Macys. They are great department stores with some age appropriate selection. You may also check the childrens place. They had some things the other day that looked like they would fit your daughter due to the fact they were capris, leggings with skirts, etc. Very cute!
And I like e-bay to find unusual selections. Many people sell wholesale things there, that you can get new with tags, and at a great price.
As for your son...I had that problem last year with my son...I loved Arizona (JC Penney) pants for him. They always seemed to work!!! And Gymboree.
Good luck in your search!

Hi B. - Limited Too carries some plus sizes and JCPenney, plus you may want to go ahead and move up to junior sizes (Abercrombie for example) and just hem everything. The bigger the deal that you make of your daughter's weight, the worse it will be for her. Don't give her a complex just because you are concerned. Find out the healthy things she likes to eat and keep your cabinets and fridge stocked with them...cheese sticks, apples w/low-fat peanut butter, celery sticks with peanut butter & raisins, low-fat yogurt, pretzel sticks, any kind of fresh fruit, etc. Substitute all sugar drinks in your house for flavored water, Crystal Light and sugar-free sodas (my teenager really likes Sierra Mist Zero). The fact that she is active is a complete bonus...at least she is not a couch potato. Keep her enrolled in physical activities and she will grow out of the chubbiness. My daughter, although never fat, was 70 lbs. at 7 yrs. old. She is now 5'8" and weighs 140 and is an incredible athlete (dancing, cheerleading, track). My niece was much heavier at 7 (probably like your daughter) and she is slowly but surely losing her baby fat now that she is nine (and probably still 90 lbs.) The only thing you should do about the doctor is at her yearly physical, ask the doctor to do a thyroid test (you daughter does not know what a thyroid test is so need to talk in front of her about her weight). Make sure your daughter feels that you love her EXACTLY the way she is (the worst thing you can do is make her feel she is not good enough) and help her to feel beautiful with nice clothing and cute hair cuts. Her self-esteem will eventually improve and so will her weight.

I know that you didnt ask about her weight and what may be the issue but i thought you might need to know that lots of factors are included in some over weight kids ,not just them eating a lot! She may have an underactive thyroid....That tends to make u gain weight and slow up your matabolism(sp?) and Make her keep the weight on depite what she eats or even how much activity she does! I was diagnosed with that right after i had my daughter I was having the hardest time losing the weight and i was working out and eating a very healthy calorie concious diet! So they put me on a medication and with in weeks i had more energy and I was losing the pounds that i had been trying so hard to lsoe! So maybe when you talk to her doctor bring that up thye will do a simple blood test to check it and if she does have it it will be a breeze to fix! Good luck hun i hope everything works out with your daughter!

We've got the same problem. She's not fat, just kind of chubby around the tummy. We didn't have any problems till she started kindergarten, which kind of shocked me. I figured she would have more excercise moving from preschool into regular school, but maybe not. We actually had to move up a size just to get around the belly. We've found a few things at Walmart and consignment shops, more variety. Also, Old Navy worked very well for us on jeans and things.
