Overseas Travel with 6 Month Old Twin Boys!
My husband has recently received a promotion, and we will be moving to Belgrade, Serbia...."we" = my husband, 6 month old twin boys, our dog, and myself! With such a long flight, and being in the middle of the first year vaccine schedule, we are a bit apprehensive...any advice or insight would be fantastic!
So What Happened?™
Still working on the transition, but thank you all very much for your help. Thankfully, my pediatrician is not worried, and will have all of their shots up to date, and I am checking with the dept of agriculture for the dog! Your kind words and advice help to put my mind at ease!!!! Planning for the move within the next 2 months.....

I would put a list of questions together and call their pediatrician and see what he/she thinks. I'd also do some investigating into the healthcare system in Serbia and see if it is safe to take them there this young.
I don't know anything about Serbia - I wish you a lot of luck!

Don't worry so much. Are you or your husband in the military? My husband and I just moved to South Korea 3 months ago with our at the time 4 month old son. He had all his shots and everything was ok. He did great on the flight, although we had to sit all the way in the back and our seats were a row of 3. so my husband sat on one side our son in the middle with his carseat and I was on the other end. With your boys being a little older it might be harder, but I wish you guys the best of luck. Oh and make sure your dog has all his shots too, they won't let him fly unless he has his shots up to date. Good luck. :)

Talk to your pediatrician and make sure your sons have received the appropriate shots before leaving! Get the schedule of what else they need and when and contact the US Consulate there to see if they have recommended doctors (if your husband's company isn't supplying you with info).
Talk to the airlines because many have these bassinet/net things so infants can sleep in them on long flights. I haven't personally used them, but a friend who has traveled several times with infants and toddlers to Israel told me about them.
Make sure your dog is up on all of the vaccines. I would also talk to the US Consulate there about veterinary service, laws, etc.

Make sure you get those shots at least a week in advance of flying. Kind of like well before a christening - you don't want a sore leg(s) to cause screaming in the middle of the service or the flight!
Get to the airport in plenty of time so that you don't have to rush. That's just stressful for you and to your children. Make sure you know the airline and TSA rules for formula. If you have one of those bottle warmers that you can carry on the plane with you, you can make bottles with bought water once you have gone through security, so that the bottles will be warm before you get on the plane. At your gate on the walls there will be somewhere that you can plug up your warmer.
I hope your husband's company flies you business class - that will give you more room. Ask for the bulkhead seats (no seats in front of you) in hopes of having a bassinet for each baby. (Not usable during takeoff or landing). Ask if your airline carries them. Though you don't want them to be starving when you get them on the plane, don't fill them up before takeoff or landing because you want them to either nurse or suck on a bottle so their ears won't hurt from popping.
Do you have the children's passports? Get that started tomorrow if you haven't already. Pay the extra money for them to overnight back to you. You AND your husband have to go to the courthouse (or wherever you do this in your area) to get the children's passports - don't go by yourself because they won't do it without both parents. Make sure you know everything you need to take with you too.
Best of luck in your new adventure. Will this be a look/see for you? Or will this be your actual move flight?
Let us know how you fare!
