Overnight Diapers and Diaper Doublers

I don't know what kind of diaper doubler you were using, but these are readily available on cloth diapering sites and commonly used with cloth diapers. Just do a google search for cloth diapering.

I'm sorry, can't help with the doublers, I had to use them as well, back in the day, my now 12 year old started soaking through her diapers all the time. I asked the Dr. about it and he gave me a funny looking bag-thingey to get a urine sample. I finally got it to work and get enough urine to get a sample, and to our great surprise, we discovered she has type 1 diabetes. Please, please if you think your little one is going through fluids excessively, please have him checked for diabetes. I was lucky, my daughter did not fall into a coma for me to notice something was wrong. Her 10 year anniversary was yesterday, and we visited her 6th caretaker/nurse practicioner.So far, no nerve damage, no eye damage. But she is still only 12 years old so that can still be such a danger if she does not have good control over her diabetes. For me, the hardest part was allowing her to have the "control" of it. She does all her own shots, tests her blood sugar levels (not as often as I would have) and decides what she will have or not have. This disease scares me to death because it is so sneaky and slow. Please, if you think your baby might be peeing a lot, it is just a urine test, to determine whether or not it might be a concern. I hope it turns out not to be a concern. I don't mean to scare you but it would not hurt to check.

Larger diapers don't work, they fit too loosly. Try giving him less to drink at night. If he's a large baby he doesn't need the extra anyway. You can check his diaper when you go to bed and see if he's gone yet and change him then. If you wake during the night for the bathroom or whatever, change him again. Maybe lining the diaper with a minipad would help. Good luck

I used to use the diaper doublers as well, but couldn't find them for my daughter. I started using the pads that are made for people who have bladder control issues. Just stuck those in the diaper and worked just as well.

I can't remember what age my daughter was when she had the same problem. I went up a size at night. I think it was at stage 3. I used pamper baby dry. That worked for us. Shortly after we switched to size 3 during the day. My daughter always has been under weight.

Hi J., I had a similar situation where my 6 month old was wetting through his diapers as well. So I start using Huggies Overnight but they seem to do the trick for me so I am thinking it might be that you may need to go a size up in the diaper if your baby is teetering between 2 sizes. Also, if your baby is wearing a 'onesie' at night, make sure that the onesie is not too tight. Sometimes, the onesies are the culprit causing the best quality diaper to gap in areas where they need the most protection. Doing one or both of these things have worked for me. Good luck!

It was about 7 months when my son started wetting through his diapers overnight. I started buying the next size up just for overnight and it worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for you. It's worth a try, right?

I have a 6 month old who is like an elephant. He seemed to have a dry diaper for hours and then soaks his diaper. He is about 18 pounds and was drinking a lot of formula. To eliminate my constant changing of the bed, the doctor recommended that we feed him a 4oz bottle and a seperate bowl of cereal in the evening seperating them by about a half an hour and the cereal being last. I then change him last minute before bed. If you are using the bottle to put him to rest only use another ounce or so, this may eliminate how much he urinates as opposed to trying to soak up more. This way as he gets older she will also be used to not drinking so much before bed. We also use stage 3 diapers, hope this helps some.

My kids are tall and skinny so I always had to go up a size well before they were out of the "weight range" of the smaller-sized diapers. I also have had better luck with Pampers (I have a daughter and a son) than with Huggies (until you get into swim diapers and/or "Pull-ups," where Huggies seems to have a marginal advantage. I would definitely try the next size diaper. Hope this helps!

When my middle son was a baby (in size 3s), I would buy size 5s for at night, and that helped for me. I had the same leakage problems too.

our baby girl is a heavy wetter and we've found the best luck w/ a cloth diaper called bum genius. i LOVE them! they're pricey (about $18ea) but to me it's worth it for 2 reasons: 1) they're adjustable from infant to toddler, so they'll last. also, 2) they're fleece-lined so keeps her diaper area dry, and you can get cloth (or even more absorbent- hemp) inserts for them. i put 2 inserts in over night, and while they're soaked in the morning, my babe is not! you can find bum genius as well as the doublers on amazon.com or diapers.com.

tip- if you haven't used diapers.com before, new customers get $10 off $50 purchase, so basically you can get 3 diapers for $44 instead of $54, which helps a little. When my daughter's overnight bedwetting became a similar issue, one thing I learned was just what you have thought. if she was overfilling the diaper, it was time to move up a size. If the size change was to extreme, or didn't work. We would break the night up, getting her to use the tiolet throughout the night. This gave us an indication of when the heavy bladder relase would occur and eventually, we were able to shift from 3-4 batheroom visits overnight to 1 timely visit.

For our son we go up 2 sizes in diapers at night. We use pampers crusers.
As for the diapers doublers, I know that babies r us used to carry them, but you need to ask for them as they are never out. Maybe give them a call and find out.
Walgreens used to carry them also, but its been a while since I've seen them.

I have a cloth diaper shop and we help many babies find a dry night when disposables don't work. Overnight diapers don't include poo so people don't freak out as much about considering cloth diapering overnight.

Some quick fixes to try are to make sure that the child's pj's are not to tight in the diaper area. Using high quality fleece pant bottoms for pj's from like gap or old navy will also act as an extra diaper cover and push the moisture back into the diaper area.

You can buy the G diaper inserts. They are the environmentally friendly diapers (cross between cloth and disposable diapers, we just started using them), but I think they would work as an insert to a regular diaper. You can buy them on babycenter.com and I've also seen them at Target and Whole Foods. There's also a G diaper website.

Uaually my son would start to leak out of his diapers when he was ready for the next size. I would try going up a size if his current size is snug or stops below his belly button.
Also you could try gDiaper inserts. (www.gDiapers.com) They would have inserts that would do the same as what you were using before. You can also buy the inserts sepereately from the rest of the gDiaper sets. They are more enviornmentally friendly too. Good luck!

I used the diaper doublers from Dominick's for a long time, and then couldn't find them anymore as well. I switched to Huggies Overnights and they have worked even better than the doublers. I could only find the Overnights in size 3 at Babies R Us, and size 4 at Target. Walmart might have them but I'm not sure. I have seen diaper doublers at Babies R Us as well.

J.- I use the next size diaper for overnight for my twin sons. My sister let me in on the secret when the boys were 4 months old & I was telling her that I had to change them sometimes 3 x a night! She told me that she uses the next size up for overnight wear. I tried it that night & it worked like a charm! I also use a thick layer of Desitin original on their bottoms before I put them to bed & the diaper lasts the entire 12 hours. It's unbelievable how much a diaper can hold! That's when I tell myself, wow, I really got my money out of this diaper (it weighs a ton)! I have always used Pampers brand. Yes, they are a little bit bigger, but when you go up a diaper size, they also increase in absorbency. With Huggies brand they always seemed to leak constantly for me, even in the daytime. Pampers is a couple cents more per diaper. Maybe you can use Pampers for overnight, if cost is an issue & Huggies during the day. **I read other advice too about decreasing fluid intake- when I use the next size up diapers at night, I did not have to decrease their fluid intake. The bigger size diaper worked just fine.

Hi, my son did the same thing when he was an infant (now he's almost 18 months). He's just always been a big drinker - water and milk. Yes, we would use a size bigger at night and make sure the waist was where it should be and didn't slip down before bedtime. Also, if you can get to a CostCo, their diapers, the Kirkland brand, are very absorbant, are bigger than Pampers (covers more tummy area so fewer leaks), and are considerably cheaper. We've had good success with those.

I had the same problem with my son - i bumped him up to the next size diaper and that really helped.

I used the diaper doublers also. They are available at Babies R Us. I don't know where you live, but there is a BRU in Merrillville, IN (just off I-65.

Babies R Us/Toys R Us sells them. Buy multiple packages at once because they run out quickly!

If you can go into a size larger diaper without it being too big around legs, that will help. We live in the Springfield area and find the diaper doublers at the local Babies R Us.

I agree-Huggies Overnights are the best!! I also started feeding that last bottle earlier, instead of right before bed. That seemed to help a lot. If you still prefer the liners though, Babies R Us has them.

When our kids were smaller a leaky diaper over night usually meant we needed to put them in a bigger size. Also, does your son nurse or take a bottle at night? We found that as they ate less at night the diaper was not as wet. Good luck!

For my daughter I have been using the huggies overnights. Thay come in size 3,4,5. She is now in a size 4 and they work awsome. They are on sale at target now for 8.99.

I have a 11 month old and few months ago the same thing started to happen. We would wake up in the morning and he was wet up to his armpits. Anyway, we started to put in diapers one size bigger and it helped a lot. Some of my co-worker said to double diaper. Never tried it though. We also spoke to our pediatrician who informed us that we were giving him a bottle too late and too much of it. He was eating 8-10 oz at 10:30pm (when he was 8 months old). We are now giving him more food at dinner and 5-6 oz of formula at 9pm. The pediatrician also said that boys go through stages like that. I hope this helps! Good luck!

My 2-year-old does that too. That's how I know it's time to move up a size, which has worked for us.

I would go up a size or two and try it. If it doesn't work, then you have diapers in the larger size when you need it. Also google for the diaper doublers and I am sure you can find them online to purchase.

For my 18 month-old who had the same problem, we use Pampers Cruisers during the day because they fit differently than the other type, and Huggies Overnights in one size up. That helped us immediately with the overnight leaking, but very rarely will he still wet through.

Absolutely switch to the next size up. It'll cost a little more...but not really in the long run since you won't have to change as often. My girls have always been in a size up (especially at night). If that doesn't work, try plastic diapers (made for potty training) on over the regular diaper....

They sell the doublers at Babies r us in the diaper section. We use the huggies overnights for our 7 month old and they work great.

I almost always have had to go a size bigger that what was listed on the box. I'm not entirely sure why, but I know with my first son, if I got within 5 pounds of the upper listed weight limit the diapers leaked.

I've seen those doublers at Babies R Us. Check out the Babies R Us or other websites and see if you can get the doublers shipped to you! Good Luck!

yes we used them and they worked great! my dad had prostate cancer and had surgery and he was leaking for months after the surgery and when I pulled out the diaper doubler for eric he asked why i had stole his pads! I told him no they are diaper doublers and he was buying at walmart the brand name is Assurance in a purple and blue package, 52 in a pack and approx $10 and they worked the same. hope this helps ,there are many kids you can try around with.

You may want to try two diapers - the one underneath would be his regular size and the outside one would be a size larger.

I know this may sound silly, but use a maxi pad! He does NOT need to know what they really are. My girlfriend did this b/c she could no longer find them as well and it worked like a charm. Good luck!

My baby girl was/ is a chunk and so she would leak through every night. I too considered the Diaper Doublers, which by the way are sold at Babies R Us too. Anyway, with my daughter I realized that some diapers just didn't fit her right and so I went on a quest to try several diapers, ofcourse starting with the most expensive first. Afterall, she was my baby girl. :) So, I tried everything from Huggies to Pampers to Luvs and then I decided to try off-brand diapers. I started with Costco's brand because they are made by Pampers (I think) and for the first time ever, she didn't leak through. Wow, I though, cheaper and no leaks? Out of necessity, I also tried Wal-Mart's brand and had no problems with that one either.

I hope that this helps. As a side note, going up a size didn't help me but some people swear by it.

I would try going up a size. When my sons were leaking from their diapers it was usually a sign that they needed to go up a size in diapers. My sons' drink 8 oz. of milk before bed and their Huggies Overnights never leak.

I found that the weight guidelines on diapers really don't mean that much. My sons have been in size 5's since last July and they just recently hit the bottom of the weight range for size 5 diapers. But they have fit fine since last summer.

I used one size larger with both my kids ( a girl and a boy) at night when they started to wet thru the diapers. It worked great! Also, you'll already have some of the larger size when he gets bigger and needs the next size during the day :) Also, when you put him down for the night make sure his pee pee is pointed down or at least the top of the front of the diaper flaps over it. Many times boys wet at night because they are pointed up and it eventually shoots out the front.

At 7 months old I would not recommend ( I am a nurse and lactation consultant) restricting his fluid intake at all! He is a growing baby - restricting fluid is when he's being potty trained at 3 or 4 years old and you want to help him stay DRY thru the night!!!

I would definitely try a bigger size diaper. Also I think they sell those diaper inserts at Babies R Us.

I always go up a size too, and it has worked about 90% of the time for both of my boys. If that doesn't work, why not just use a cheap maxi pad? They're pretty similar to the inserts anyway.

I have found that bigger diapers help. Changing the baby right before bed time helps too even if the diaper is just a little wet.

We did the one-size bigger thing. Also, we did start decreasing the amount of fluid she received after about 5-6pm. At 7mos old your baby can have more baby food and less breast milk/formula. If you want/need to keep the quantity, try to switch to giving the greatest fluid amounts before noon. And at 7mos, just in case you are doing this, you can ask your pediatrician, but he does NOT need to eat during the night.

Try babies r us. they have the doublers too.

Huggies overnights!!! Worth every penny & you only use 1 a day. We get them through Amazon.

I have tried putting them in a larger size and also just sucked it up and changed my kids in the middle of the night. My husband always wanted me to give them less fluids, but I wasn't going to for that. So I would just get up once, probably around midnight or a little after, and then change them. I have four children 6-3-2-2 and my husband was never any help at night.

I had this same problem with my son. I used to buy the diaper doublers at my local Jewel-Osco, but they were out of them all the time. I started ordering them online. I am not sure of the website since my son is now 3, but if you search for diaper doublers I am sure you can find it. Hope this helps and good luck!

Going up a size always helped the problem, however, our baby is a girl....so I know that makes some difference. But, I guess, the larger sized diaper, the more absorbant material in there, the better..

Also, she has a 9pm bedtime, and we don't give her anything to drink after 8pm.....

going one size up was always the solution for my son. Can remember struggling with that from the beginning with my son and after we figured out to go up a size each time he started leaking thru, we rarely had the problem any more

Try Pampers baby dry diapers. I like Pampers better than Huggies.

We have the same exact problem! It does not matter if we use huggies or pampers. The diapers seem to be a cloth like material, when it gets too full, it seeps through the material.

He is in size 3 pampers diapers. My mom bought us size 4 pamper diapers that were on sale. I tried putting him in a size 4 last night and it helped. He did not leak out and he had a full diaper! We are going to continue with the bigger diaper and hope that it keeps working.

I have had much better luck with pampers and at night I go up a size. My son is also 7 months and I am using a 2/3 at night and 2's during the day. It has helped a lot since I started using the 2/3's at night. You could also try using a diaper cover for cloth diapers if it doesn't work... Hope this helps!
