My guess would be either reflux or asthma. Both have symptoms that include a prolonged cough. Ask your dr.

Make the doctor appt. There may be something else there that needs to be treated besides just a cough.

Try an antihistimine, such as zyrtec. Alot of coughs are caused by a post nasal drip. If you dry them up, most of the time the cough will also go away. If this doesn't work, then definitely take them to the doctor. Hope your little one feels better soon.

that is a long time for a little one to have a cough. the longest i wait is about two weeks. usually only one to see if he will shake it with our on hand meds. its past time to take him in. it could be something worse or developed into something worse, and it could be allergies.

We went to the doctor just this week for the same thing. Turns out, my little buddy has asthma! He'd been coughing since October or November but had no other symptoms.... We're using an inhaler and he claims he can already breath better.

Is the cough producing any mucus or phlegm? Does your child have allergies? It might be seasonal allergies causing the cough. Maybe see the pedi and ask to be referred to ENT or allergist.

I suggest making an appt. w/ the doctor.

Your little one might have some fluid in his lungs which is pneumonia.

My daughter had no symptoms but a cough. The dr. had told us to give her some mucinex dm. After we finished a bottle, I called and told him she still had a cough. When we brought her in, she was diagnosed w/ walking pneumonia. Within 3 days, it cleared up with the help of the antibiotic.

Have him checked for asthma. When my daughter was 13 months she had a cough that wouldn't go away. She was so lethargic from not sleeping well she wouldn't even eat and it was hard to wake her up.

You should go to the dr. They say not to use cough meds on kids that young anymore. Good luck!

A cough lasting over a month NEEDS to be seen by a doctor. I think you've tried everything you can at home but it's time to see the doctor. I too had a cough that lasted that long and I ended up breaking a rib from coughing so hard!!! It turns out I now have asthma. The pollen counts for cedar are very heavy right now and my whole family is either coughing, using nebulizers or in general having difficulty breathing. Your little guy may have asthma and need some nebulizer treatments to give him some relief. good luck!!!

I agree with having him checked for asthma. If he has lots of drainage this could be making him cough when he lays down. Meantime, try rubbing Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of his feet and put socks on him before bed. Don't know why but this seems to work.

My Dr says that some "colds" can last up to three weeks, but anything over 3 weeks they want to see the kid... So I say if its been a month, make that appointment asap!! How your kido feels better soon.

I second those that have recommended Buckwheat Honey. I found it at HEB. It is natural and safe for kiddos that young.

It sound like what he has is an allergy you should take him to the Dr. to find out what he can have for this.

Just like other people suggested you to take your kid to see the doctor. While waiting to be seen, you can give HONEY with LEMON juice (use the fresh LEMON), give it to your kid, take like a juice. Would help out the irriation of coughing. Should use WARM water to make LEMON juice for your kid. Make sure give him/her ALOT of LIQUID, like make him/ her some soups. That what I 've learned while i'm in school. I always use this method for my nieces. Work out for them. Good luck to you.

Doesn't look like anyone addressed the most obvious, so I will. I don't agree with how quick everyone is to chalk it up to asthma and allergies and lets get some drugs. Get a cool mist vaporizer and steam up his room at night. This loosens the phlegm like nothing else and helps it come up so he can get better. Also milk products multiply the mucus by 1000, so try taking him off until the symptoms clear up. This has always worked for me. Good luck!

I used buckwheat honey for my daughters cough and it really helped her. I got it from Whole Foods.

This sounds like our daughter when she was an infant. It is still early for your child and so many possibilities.. Document every symptom. Also keep a good record of what she eats. What time and days does the coughing occur? What is the weather like and what are the allergy readings for your area? This will help the doctor look for a pattern. A cough that lasts more than a week or 2 you need to take the your child to see the doctor.

First of all allergies especially in Central Texas are very bad right now. Cedar and mold are very high. To alleviate this, we removed all of the carpet in our home and all of the drapes. We also changed the air filters in our central air and heating system at least every 4 weeks sometimes every 3 depending on the season. Then we purchased a really good air filtering machine for our daughters bedroom. This was a life saver.

Eventually our child was diagnosed with asthma. It took a while till they could confirm this.

Her second Christmas we also realized she was allergic to the live Christmas tree. We also visited a grandparent that was a smoker. Our child ended up with severe pneumonia.. No more visits to any home with a smoker and we had to give up the fresh trees. Our child out grew the asthma by middle school, but "the cough" and the dark circles under her eyes were always a sign that she was having breathing problems.

Hang in there, I know this is frustrating. Follow your mommy heart and brain. If you feel like she needs to go to the doctor do it. If you feel like you are not getting answers, seek a second opinion.

my dr says not to give any child under 7 over the counter cough meds. BUt he did say to give 1 tablespoon of buckwheat honey(darker honey) i just used regular and it helped alot.
But that long i would deffinatly bring your child in, anything over 10 days should be seen. could be sinus infection or more serious.

I agree with the other moms. My son was the same way after a cold. His pediatrician gave him a prescription cough medicine to help him and it stopped after a couple of days. We found that none of the OTC medicines were working. I would definitely call your Doctor quickly. Hope this helps.

gosh, same thing here. started after christmas. i took her a week later and was told do the nebulizer 3 times a day. this weekend the cough seemed worse to me so i took her in again and they said
allergies to oak trees???
and gave me singular. i am not convinced but heck i'll try anything at this point. hope this helps

One of my kids just had this last year. After a cold, the cough lasted for a long time. No fever, he felt fine...just coughed often.
I took him to the Doc. There is a prescription cough med. that can be given to help his lungs and diaphragm relax. Was the Doc's opinion that he had been coughing so much for a time that his chest muscles were spasming.
BUT, your son can't have this med. if he has crud in his chest, and the Doc. must listen to make sure the lungs are clear before prescribing a suppressant.

It was not very expensive---think I asked for the generic of the prescribed med. It worked very well!
