Outside Dog Odor
Our Dog stays inside & outside an equal amount of time. Lately, His dog run has been smelling more & more like "dog." Is there something we can do to lighten the smell or get rid of it completely? It's embarrassing!

We hose our dog run every once in a while with bleach. Its the only thing we have found that helps with the smell. We keep the dogs away for the day so the smell of bleach doesn't hurt them. Hope that helps!

Bleach! I also saw some stuff at Pet Smart that suppose to help. I can't remember the name though. I'm sure if you go in and ask, they'll be able to help you. Good luck!

We spray our dog run with natures miracle. It's all natural and really does the job. You can buy it at any pet supply store.

Dear M.,
Well, make one day a shampoo day for the dog. And put on a bit of conditioner into the rinse water. Pets are an important part of our children's lives and need to be take care of just like we do.
Did you know that Queen Victoria had several dogs that she dearly loved and insisted on bathing them herself? True. It would be a good way to teach your daughters to take care of someone beyond themselves - especially someone who gives them unconditional love like a dog does. My gr grand daughter got into a bossy stage and starting telling her parents what to do. They told her that she couldn't be bossy with them, but she could take care of Bodie, the dog. She did, that poor dog learned to obey and not get into the trash for sure ! When she heard him rustling in the trash, she would rush into the kitchen and 'make him clean it up'. Too cute.

We also use bleach to clean our dog run and recently just started using a powerwasher and it has made a huge difference. It stays cleaner and smell-free longer than it did when we just used the hose.

Hi, We found out with our last dog that extreme doggy odors are often caused by an allergy or a bacterial skin infection. Food and inhaled allergies most often express themselves on dogs' skin, and once the skin gets irritated an infection can develop. That usually requires antibiotics and a special shampoo for awhile. By the way, one of the foods dogs are most allergic to is corn, hence the proliferation of the rice based foods. We tried changing foods, but until we bit the bullet and went to the vet for the antibiotics, the odor did not improve. Good luck. Grams

We have 2 dogs who stay outside all day and right now we let them in at night because it is so cold. You can buy spray at Petco. Also my husband will burn incense. I know it is hard to find time to wash the dog.
