Outer Ear Infection Troubles- Help!!

My daughetr has been having ear infection after ear infection for almost three two years now. Not inner ear infections, so tubes will not help. This is similiar to swimmers ear, but we are having trouble even when she is not swimming. The doctor said yesterday they looked all red, inflamed and she could tell there was or is puss in both ears. She goes to the ENT every six months as well. We are not on a drop with steriods for two weeks hoping it will clear up. It usually does with the drops, but then two months later she is complaining of ear pain again!! Has anyone else had this problem. I feel so bad for her, and the doctors never seem to fix the problem for good!

What can I do next?

I have had trouble this summer with these ear infections and now my daughter has one. What my doctor told me is that these often start as fungal infections that become infected by bad bacteria. So I am on acetate drops that help get rid of yeast as well as bacteria in the ear canal. I have used three kinds of ear drops and these are the ones that have worked the best.

Hope this helps,

L.

My daughter and I both experienced swimmer's ear this summer. I visited our chiropractor and used colloidal silver drops, ear candled and warm compresses. The ear candle helped to remove any bacteria and gunk and the drops aided in clearing the infection. I will tell you that for both myself and my daughter once we ear candled our ear pain was practically gone. I also boosted our vitamin C intake and watched our intake of sugars as well. I would look into chiropractic adjustments or cranial sacral to help resolve any issues with her ear.

I'm so sorry your daughter has been going through this. I know how painful outer ear infections can be. If you have questions feel free to email me.

Peace,
J.

try chiropractic! I've seen it help my own kids, and all but one other out of maybe ten kids.

I used to get ear infections all the time to the point of having to have my ears vacuumed, packed with antibiotic (that had to stay in for 10 days) and then vacuumed out. havent had one in over two years by doing the following religiously. if even a drop of water gets into my ears (and i'm talking a small amount - like a drop flinging into my ear when i'm out moving sprinklers) I use a half and half mix of rubbing alcohol and vinegar put into each ear while lying on my side and letting it sit for 10 minutes per ear. if my ears start to ache at the first sign of aching i take a sudafed 24 hour for a full week. having to lay down for 20 minutes a pop is much less a pain in the a$$ than having the infections. dont bother with silicon ear plugs to keep the water out when swimming or showering, they made my ears feel all fuzzy and crawley and the infections got worse. good luck!

I was going to mention fungal infections as well. I would try Nystatin if you are going to do a prescription, NOT steroids.

Diet changes, like eliminating sugar, gluten, and dairy will help heal her immune system.

Does your daughter have reflux? The enzyme in reflux can cause ear infections too, i would try your pedatrician and see about reflux meds or allergy meds. I like the no yeast ideas these women are suggesting and the cortaid. I agree you need to find out what is in there, yeast , dry skin, reflux enzymes grow in dark moist places just like yeast. Try one of the meds at a time so you can rule out what it is. Also you can have the ENT grow some of the puss or whatever he can swab that is in there and see if it is yeast or reflux , some ENT's are not good with the reflux thing or dont believe it but ours knew right away that it was our daughter problem and we tried allergy meds etc and the prevacid worked instantly. So if you can get an aswer from a doc I would do trial and error with meds, not a great option but I think you can find the answer. Also there are some disorders out there like PCD, Primary Cilia Dyskensia) where the cilia dont more well or at all etc and hence ear innfections or chronic cough, so i would look into those type of issues as well. Write odwn any other sign or symptom she has even how minute it may seem or if it might seem like it is "just her", sniffles, low hearling loss or trouble with spelling , etc these little things can help determine issues as well even though you may not think it is anything.
Well just a stab in the dark with you and hope something we say can help!
Take care!

A couple of years ago I kept having problems with my ears being very itchy inside. I would use a q-tip to clean them and at the same time relieve some of the itchy feeling. Every couple of months I would end up with outer ear infections. It turns out I developed seasonal allergies, and one of the symptoms was dry, flaky skin in my ears canal. The solution a doctor finally recommended that has worked wonders for me is using a q-tip to put a small amount of Cortaid in each ear each day. It has worked wonders, and I have not had an ear infection in over a year.

My son was forever getting ear infections, so much so that his doctor wanted to tube him. I didn't want to go that route so I asked if I could give him pseudoephedrine (it has stopped me from getting them). He said sure, but he didn't think it woud work. He wrote me a perscription for liquid pseudoephedrine and my son has taken it for 3 days straight on the very first sign of each cold. In the last 4.5 years, he's only had one infection (on that day, we happened to have run out).

If you can't get a perscription, look for children's cold medicine that contains pseudoephedrine and see if that works.

I've had a handful of mom friends that I have recommended this to and since they started doing it, their kids also have been ear ache infection free.
