Our Tax Guy Has Me So Freaked Out!
Ok normally I do our taxes with turbo tax and do efile, easy peasy, No problems. But since we have been 1099A for a foreclouser I have had to ask our financial guy to do our taxes, That is beyond my knowledge. He is so anti government its freaking me out. He wants to mail evrything in bc he says the efile is dangerous the government has a big conspericy (sp) that the people dont know about, and mailing it in is the safest way. My thought is its one less thing for the government to lose paperwork wise when its all on a computer format. He says to its longer and harder to do it as efile. I am thinking its easier and faster. This is more a a vent as I am just chomping at the bit with the possibility of us not being able to have the foreclouser waived with the mortgage relief act. So any tax people out there what do the big stuff ie. 1099A and such what do you think. Is he just out there or am I thinking incorectly?
So What Happened?™
yes he is an accountant and he knows his stuff, as for doing it myself, I really do not feel comfortable doing it bc of the 1099A we are talking about thousands of dollars in potential taxes we would have to pay if I screwed it up. Next year will be back to easy straight forward taxes. But this year is a a big no for me. I spoke to my MIL about him and she does agree that he is very very anti government. But he has never done them wrong, and has made them ALOT of money so like I said he knows his stuff. He has just really off views, but he is a by the book numbers guy.

You might want to look the guy up under 'Crazy Anti-Government Nutjobs.' His photo should be right next to the definition. :) I guess on a bright note at least he didn't suggest you chisel it on stone tablets to be saved for all time. Find another tax guy and move along with an e-file.

He's actually required by law to e-file. As of Jan 2012, if a tax preparer prepares more than 11, s/he has to by law. This guy would be breaking the law. I don't think you want to mess around with this. Get a new preparer.

Not only does he sound out of his mind, but I'd also worry about HIM having access to your sensitive information. I love my little brother so much, but he has mental health problems & conspiracy theories, and I'd NEVER give him my SSN.

I've never had a problem e-filing (did it myself with TurboTax or our state's online program), though with our current taxes, we have someone do them and then we mail them in. I don't think it's a conspiracy. Everything is going electronic these days. What's his opinion of online banking in general? Wait, don't ask him that.
You said "financial guy" do you mean "accountant" or what? Is he familiar enough with tax code to get your taxes done right? Do you use him for other things? Is he an older guy whose understanding of efiling is limited?
I'd find a new accountant, frankly. And keep an eye on my SSN.

First off all of your info is online anyway from the irs, banks, insurance companies, etc. Even if you never access it, this IS how all businesses utilize their info now. This is something you should be able to handle on turbo tax and it should walk you through it. Just tell this guy you want your info back and if he asks why...just tell hhim you think he maybe part of a spy network and will use your info to destroy all the coral reefs of the world. If you act as crazy as he is he may just understand and hand it over and may question if perhaps he was brainwashed into being a tax guy. Lol
