Organic Formula Issue
I have been working real hard to make sure my 8 mos. olds diet is as good as it can be. I make all her food (all organic veggies and fruits)....only all natural food and drink products. However, I wasnt able to sucessfully breastfeed so she is fed formula. I tried to have her on Organic formula but she has a bad reaction to soy and its in every organic milk formula I have looked for. Does anyone know of any organic formulas that do not contain any soy? or any suggestions? I just tried to change it back to the organic again thinking maybe her digestive system is a little more mature and would accept the little bit of soy thats in organic cows milk formula but it was the same gassey painful result. Thanks.

I would call your ped on that, but have you thought about the milk part of that? It may be that she is having a reaction to milk and not the soy. Just a thought.

I would second looking into the Weston Price recipes. Do you know if you can get raw cows milk locally? You can pastuerize it yourself, but it's a good idea to get something that's not homogenized.
There are some minimal standards required for labelling something organic, fwiw. There are none for calling something "natural" though. However, some organic farms push the limits of the standards farther than others. Horizon has some questionable practices, so if you have something else available I'd choose that.

Unfortunately, soy is a trademark of 99.9% of organic formulas.
Also unfortunately, because "organic" has next to no regulation in this country, it really doesn't mean a thing, in most cases, other than spending a few more bucks.
Certain companies really do mean it when they say organic, although with the trend of everything under the sun being labled as organic anymore, I think you'd have just as good a chance of giving your daughter a good diet with any formula out there.
I do have a question: you said "the little bit of soy that's in organic cow's milk formula".. meaning it's a milk-based formula, but it has soy in it? Are you sure she isn't reacting to the milk itself, instead of the soy? Maybe I misunderstood!

That sounds like a pediatrician question to me. I would make a call to him/her. The most important thing is getting the best nutrition that she can digest. If it's not organic it will be ok. It's only a few more months and she will be off of it anyway. When she is old enough there is Horizon Organic Milk (cow's milk). Safeway sells it.

well K., i'm not sure if it's organic or not, but i used Enfamil Nutramigen Lipil. My daughter was very gassy and cranky for about the first 3 months, then i switched her to soy and it got worse. so i tried that one. it worked great. she's a healthy almost 3 year old now and i think that if i had another child i would do the same thing. hands down. it's worth a try, but like i said before i'm not sure if it is organic or not. great luck to you
J. :)
