I think it is. Your daughter is old enough to have a thermometer in her mouth without a big fight. I have an ear thermometer since mine are a toddler and preschooler but I don't think it is quite as good. Sometimes I take it 3 or so times and get slightly different readings each time.

It's true oral is more accurate than axillary. I know rectal is the most accurate but I just can't do that to my babies. Luckily they don't get sick often :)

I am an RN and oral is more accurate b/c its inside the mouth and there are vessels that run under the tongue that give a good estimate of body temp. The best way is rectal, or in ICU we sometimes have a thermometer sensor in a catheter bag, where it detects the temp inside the bladder. Oral is better if you can get it, if not...axillary is perfectly fine!
