Only 7 Weeks and Getting Big Already - Twins?

Okay ladies so here it is. I am pregnant with my 4th;.......yes 4th child. Another unexpected baby just like our last one, but we are still very thrilled. We have been very worried about my health due to me having severe pre-eclampsia at 38 weeks with baby #2 and 26 weeks with baby #3. So far, I have been on a small diet with no caffeine and limiting my salt content and right now I am doing good......for now!

My question is this. This is my 4th pregnancy and my children's ages are 5, 3 and 21 months. It seemed like every pregnancy after, I would get bigger sooner. I'm not realing gaining weight at this point, just my belly is getting a little bigger than normal. I am 7 weeks along, almost 8, and have noticed my belly enlarging already. Is this normal? I know with baby #2 and #3, I started showing earlier than I did with baby #1, which I had heard was expected. My worry is that it could be twins. Now, it's not like I wouldn't love them if it were, but it scares me a little more if it could be. Was there any way for you moms out there to maybe think you were having twins without an ultrasound yet? I don't have my ultrasound until next Wednesday. I had heard you can get nausea really bad with twins but haven't heard much else. Just wondering. Oh and just to clarify, there are no twins at all on my side of the family. Thanks. God Bless.

What can I do next?

Totally normal to show earlier and be bigger with subsequent pregnancies.

I have twins and didn't show early, wasn't big early, and had almost no nausea. So... It really varies by person.

After three pregnancies you haven't figured out the whole "one heartbeat per fetus" way these things are determined? Please, just go and get a sonogram.

You get bigger sooner because your Abdomonal Muscle wall is weaker. Seeing that you have had them fairly close your abs have not had enough time and work outs to rebuild.

TOTALLY to be expected.

I think it's totally normal to "show" earlier with every baby.
Congrats!

Of course it's normal to "show" earlier with subsequent babies, but you DO realize your fetus (or fetuses) is the size of a kidney bean, right?

With every baby, you will show sooner. Unless your me and just look fat at the end but not really bigger, but I know that lots of my mommy friends with more then one or two all look 'big' very early on.

When I was pregnant the first time, I showed so early that it was a miracle that people didn't figure out I was pregnant before I announced. At one of my doctor appointments, my husband blurted out to the doctor "Are you sure she's not having twins? She's huge!" The doctor laughed and told him that I'm built that way.

I gained so little with the second one, since I threw up so much, that you would think I would have been smaller. Nope. I was even bigger. And no twins.

They will do tests and you will know. However, just know that you will show larger.

Hope that all continues to go well with your pregnancy!

It's your fourth. Your muscles are shot so of course you will show much earlier. My friend had twins and was never felt sick a day the whole pregnancy.

Your HCG levels usually are much higher with twins. I suspected I was having twins before my sonogram and was right. I felt implantation cramping on one side of my body and a few days later felt it on the other. I thought it was all in my head because I was afraid of twins too. The sonogram confirmed my suspicions and I have twin boys. I was more nauseous with my daughter than with my twins. I wasn't any bigger with my twins than I was with my daughter and actually gained less weight with my twins. I did have to go into maternity wear at 7 weeks though with the twins and didn't wear maternity with my daughter until about 5 months.

The ultrasound will show. I am going through the same and will be eight weeks next week. My HCG levels were abnormally high too which is a sign of twins.
I look about 12-14 weeks along already but this is our third and I agree that each one opens up the womb a little more.
Twins are 200% more likely if you are 40+ which I am.
After 38, it is much more common for us to drop more than one egg at ovulation.
Good luck. Keep me posted.

I showed earlier each time. With my first I didn't show until 16 weeks. We went to a family wedding out of state when I was 14 weeks along. My stomach was so flat that everyone thought I'd lost the baby. People looked at me with horror when they saw me. I just explained that everything was fine, but I wasn't showing yet. With my second, I showed at 10 weeks, and with the third I was probably showing by 8 weeks. My 4th pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. The baby stopped growing at 6 weeks, but I was still huge. When I went in for the 8 week ultrasound and was told I was only measuring 6 weeks, I couldn't believe it. I said "I know my dates aren't off, I'm huge!" I had worried about twins also considering my age and how big I was. It was only one baby.

Best wishes to you!

I think the more pregnancies the more scary the 'it could be twins' thought gets!!! I think that at some point the ole uterus just gives up! I was like that with baby 3, but I was also a lot heavier so I figure the swelling uterus was pushing out the fat!! My BFF is like that, she is showing so much at just 8 weeks, it's crazy! It is only a second pregnancy for her and she had lost a bunch of weight before she got pregnant, but she had the sono a couple days ago and only one baby :). Good luck and wishing you a healthy pregnancy, congrats :)

Hi hope all is well. I knew 9 days after implantation twinges when hcg level more than doubled from day before. Is you can get a blood test early you can tell. I am not sure what the numbers look like at 7 weeks though.

My twins are 6 now so things may be a little different now. Any way good luck and stay hydrated.

I'm no expert but I was told that having multiple children that you will start showing sooner.

I had a friend who started to show around 8 weeks with her second child.

I was around 8 weeks or maybe a little sooner with my second pregnancy when my body started to change-I didn't gain anything but my pants started to get tighter and I felt like I couldn't breathe in them. I started to wear some of my maternity pants by 10 weeks because nothing else was comfortable.

You said that there aren't any twins on your side of the family. What about your husband's?

I guess there is always that chance, but don't psych yourself out until you know for sure.

My twin pregnancy - which was my 4th - was not any different until later on in the pregnancy. I do recall that by 12 weeks it was getting harder to not tell people about the pregnancy because my belly had popped a bit - it wasn't super-obvious that I was pregnant, but I definitely looked different. We waited until the 12 week u/s to tell people and I was in maternity clothes shortly thereafter.
