Onesis Question

I like for my 16 month old to wear a onesis under his clothes both for added warmth and the drooling factor. He drools constantly and even though he wears a bid I still want an extra layer of protection. and have gone between Gerber, Carters, and Mini Wear. We just bought 18 month size from Gerber and it fit my son like a little sausage.

Do you have a preference between the brands and why?

Thanks Moms!

Hi J.,
My answer is simple: Carters - all the way - love the brand and not just for the onesies! You can find Carters at almost every major store you shop in, the clothing is super cute, the quality is great and so is the price!

Hi J.:
How funny that you posted this question because my girlfriend and I were just having this conversation the other day on how we do not like the Gerber onesies because they run SO small! I have a 12 month old and he is pretty true to size unless he is wearing one of his Gerber onesies! I only have a few of them left from my shower and I should just pack them away because he never wears them. I came home from work one day and my husband had put him in a Gerber onesie and he had it on like a t-shirt! It was unsnappd and hanging out of his pants. My husband said "it won't stay snapped!" Personally I LOVE the Carter brand onesies they are very roomy and run a little on the bigger size. They come in great colors and some have cute little graphics on them. I buy those in bulk! If you sign up on the Carter's website they will send you coupons too. Personally I think I should always get a discount there since my son is named Carter! LOL Good luck!

I have always found that the Gerber runs small. Carter onesies are my favorite. They always seem to fit the best and be a little more forgiving. My oldest daughter was a twig and they fit her well. My youngest daughter is chubby and the Carter onesies also fit her the best as well.

I personally found that I liked the Carters brand for my son. He is on the larger side (98 percentile) and I found the onesies for roomier and stretchier and he could wear them for a longer number of months (both long sleeve and short sleeve brand). (In the summer I would actually still keep the long sleeved white onesie on and then put his swimming trunks as they were great as "sun protection" as well. They also have the Carters store up in Great Lakes Crossing that has some great deals.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the majority too, for what its worth. Carters is definitely a higher quality with a thicker, softer material. Gerber is 'fine', but thinner and runs smaller. After a few washes, it seems to be even smaller due to the thinness, less white in color.

My son is 19 months old and is starting to grow out of the 24 month size Gerber already... 24mos seems to be the size where they stop making onesies. I've been looking for bigger ones, and asides from buying single ones from random places, I have have only been able to find the Gerber packs on Amazon going up to I think 4T.

I found that Gerber sizes always seemed small on both of my boys, so I prefer Carters. My oldest was a drooling machine, so we used two bibs on him at all times. We had a "base bib" which had a plastic backing, and used another bib on top that we would change as soon as it was soaked. We went through a ton of bibs, but at least it kept all his clothes from getting stained.

Like other moms who've responded, I find that Gerber runs on the small side, probably by at least 6 months or more. Gerber sells a "onsie extender" at Babies R Us, or I'm sure you can find it online - if extra length is the only thing you need. But..you can't transfer the Gerber extenders for another brand, b/c the snaps don't match. Annoying!
I'd imagine Carters sells them too, I'm off to search!

The onesies I like are Target brand, Carters, and Just One Year (which I think is by Carters).

Love carters! They seem to fit my kids the best and wash well too. There are a number of Carters stores that have oodles of deals every week so you never pay full price.

I really do not like gerber, just didn't like they way the looked or fit, something with the collar bothered me. Plus I don't think they were as big. I have a son who is 9m old and wears 18-24m clothes (he's just really tall, not a porker or anything) But the Carters clothes fit so well, their onesies are more true to size I think... He's just growing out of the 12m and in everything else he's wearing 18m+ Plus their collar looks nicer. And the material is thicker and softer in my opinion.

We have always used the Gerber onesis because that was what we had from our first baby. I would have to say that the Carter's is better quailty though. They seem softer and thicker.

Gerber onesies tend to be thin and feel cheap. We really like Carters!

I've always loved the brand Kissy Kissy. They are in a lot of dept stores. The cotton is so soft and the cut is generous. When sizing an infant just a general rule of thumb if he is 16 months old he should be wearing 24 months. He is almost out fo the onsies though. There are an occassion when you can find a onesie is 2T which is diff than 24mts as a 2T runs longer but not much wider.

I bought my daughter some long-sleeved onesies from Carters. I always like Carters quality and the cloth is very soft.

I know Target offers onsies up to size 2T. If 18 month is too small, I'd try 24 months followed by 2T in all brands.

I have Gerber onsies and do not like them as much as Carters. I think Carters are softer, thicker better quality.

Gerber brand is tiny! I bought 18 mo size for my daughter who is small for her age and it was the same size as her 6 mo carter's onesies. Carter's runs big and long. I think Carter's is my favorite though, at least if they run big you can wear them for a while. I don't like mini wear because I've always had long babies and miniwear seems to be for shorter, fatter babies. So that would depend on the shape of your baby.
