My one year old still hasn't cut any teeth! I was a late teether so I'm not too worried but I'd like to know at what age does this become a concern? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter was 18 months before she cut her first tooth and even then it was another couple of months before she cut anymore. I would not be too concerned for a while. The one thing you can do is take him/her to a pediatric dentist and have them take a pan just so you can verify they are there and just not come thru yet. That is what I did.

My son didn't have any teeth until he was over one year. He now has a beautiful & healthy set of teeth. He also never had any pain when they did arrive. He is turning 6 tomorrow and doesn't have any cavities or fillings. He also doesn't show any signs of losing a tooth yet. I've heard late teethers have healthier teeth. The only downside is that it was more difficult for him to chew & experience new foods with no teeth. He still prefers softer food to food he has to bite hard or really chew up. Don't know if that is because of the teeth or just pickiness.

Don't worry, if your little one doesn't start cutting teeth by 18 months. I would contact a pediatric dentist. Best of luck !!!

I agree with everyone about not being too worried about it! My daughter is now 20 months old and she also had no teeth on her 1st birthday. In the last 3 weeks, she's cut 6 teeth!! Not too much fun for me, but reassuring that she had teeth :)
Also, if your baby's teeth don't start popping out in the right order, don't worry about that either. My daughter's 14 month molars came in before her 7 month old front teeth?? Kids are all different!

My daughter didn't get her first tooth until 14 months and my son was 11 months. No need to worry. If you and your husband were late to get your teeth in then most likely so will your children.

Just to put your mind to ease, call and/or visit your own dentist. But, rest assured, teeth are coming! Babies are so different from one another, just try not to base his/her milestones on those of others, although this is so darn hard sometimes. My kids' all got their initial teeth later...this is great, as they keep there baby teeth longer and our dentist says this is just an added bonus to their development!

Hi R.,

I've read the other posts, so as you know it's nothing to be concerned about. My oldest didn't get teeth until she was 13 months. My youngest daughter is 13 months old now and still has no teeth. My husband and I both had teeth before our 1st birthdays, so I think it is just each child's development pattern.

Take care,
D.

PS. Just wanted you to know that we feed our daughter everything we eat, just cut it into small pieces. Didn't want the lack of teeth to deter you from feeding your baby some good solid food.

My niece and nephew both didn't get their teeth til after they were 1. They were worried because my son got his first tooth at 10 month and were making comparison. It's not a big deal, both their pediatricians also said that if they didn't have any by 18 months to see a pediatric dentist. Both got their first teeth by then.

Hi R.. My son was the same way. He did not get his first tooth until he was 15months! His Dr. didn't seem concerned about his lack of teeth. I think if they are kinda behind in growth in other areas it's kinda in line with their overall growth pattern. My son just recently made the 20 pound mark and he's almost 2! Anyway I wouldn't worry about it just yet. I hope this helps a little. Keisha

If you're worried ask her doctor, but I had a friend whose son didn't get his first teeth until 15 months. Good luck.

Hi R.,

If your baby doesn't have teeth by 15 to 18 months, call your peditrician.

Hope this helps. Good luck. D.

All three of my boys were a year old before they started to get teeth. Well the youngest is still only 9 months, but he is toothless. I was 14 months old before my I had any teeth (my parents always remind me)!
Best wishes!

Hi, R. - You are right not to be too worried. Teething charts reflects averages, and it sounds as if your daughter is just following in your footsteps. If she is still toothless in another 6-12 months, you may want to ask a pedodontist about it. It is VERY rare for this to be of any real concern. N. B., R.D.H.
