Ok to Nurse While Pregnant?

I just found out I am pregnant again (about 6 weeks) and I have an appt. with my dr. on monday. The nurse told me over the phone that I would need to stop nursing my 7-month-old because it would be too demanding and could cause preterm labor. My 7-month-old refuses to take a bottle and I hadn't planned on weaning her until she was a year- anyone have any experience with this?? Thanks

What can I do next?

Congratulations!

Nurse is completely misinformed. Unless you have a history of preterm labor or are threatening preterm labor--- nursing while pregnant is not a problem.

I nursed through my second pregnancy and am now tandem nursing BOTH my kids. No problems.

Read "Adventures in Tandem Nursing"-- big big help.

Yes, it's fine, as everyone else said. Too bad all women are not able to be as supportive as many mamasource moms!
Keep up the good work!

I don't really know much about this except that there are people who do it and continue to tandem nurse after the baby is born.

Here's something I found looking around, if it helps...

your nurse / doctor is totally unimformed. Switch to someone who knows something. She is crazy. Has she ever heard of the benefits and advantages of tandem nursing? I don't think so. Do not accept what she said and continue nursing - you'll be fine. Promise.

Yes, it is ok. to nurse while pregnant. It is done by a number of mammal species... of which we are one.

Can this nurse show you the research to substantiate her comment?

There is a book: adventues in tandem nursing - breastfeeding during pregnancy and beyond by Hilary Flower
