ok i know this is odd but i cant seem to find answers else where but here goes i have decided to try to stay "clean shaven" for undisclosed reasons but i need to know how to keep razor bumps at bay and the burn hurts i wanna know if there is any product i can use "there" or if shaving/waxing is my only option im kinda not wanting to wax i have a thing about strangers "there" and not sure if i can deal with the pain in that area ive debated it long and hard and tried shaving before but the bumps and burn turned me away from it and as i said ive decided to continue with it and i was just asking if any of you other women have found something that would work better and thank you in advance

Hey there! I'm like you about 'down there' lol..But I rarely get really bad irratation. However I get razor bumps on the back of my thighs for some reason and I tried this stuff 'Bikini Zone'...They sell it at Wal-Mart where the razors and shaving cream is. It works great. The bumps/irratation goes away pretty much by the next day...Good Luck!

I put witch hazel in a spray bottle and put it in the fridge. I use it on fresh tattoos and freshly shaved areas. Cocoa butter oil or safflower oil (you can get safflower oil at kroger) helps keeps the skin soft.

Bikini Zone products. You can get them at Wal-Mart (at least here). They have a bump cream and a shaving cream. I don't shave all of it, but always had a huge problem with the bikini line area during swim suit season as far as bumps and ingrown hairs. These products took care of that and I always use them now.

ok, what's up with all the "code" talk? Are we not grown women here? If we can't say bikini and vagina we have other hang ups to deal with! If you want your bikini area to have good hygiene as well as an attractive appearance - sorry, but your going to have to wax. It's not that big of a deal and if you go to a well trained individual the pain will be less intense. And, if you've had three kids (and we all know the invasion of privacy that accompanies childbirth) as well as yearly pap's for how many ongoing years...it's hardly a big deal to have someone wax hair from your bikini area.

This seems like as strange an answer to me for your question as your question did to you, but here goes ..... get a bottle of cheap roll-on deodorant and use it before and after. I use a bottle of the stuff that I got during a hospital stay some time ago. It doesn't burn and for some reason, it is soothing and the bumps just don't happen for me. I know, it sounds a bit far-fetched but for me it works. Good luck... G.

Well, I don't know your reasons for the hair removal, but keep in mind it is better for it to be there, than to not. Odor absorption, for one. I never remove all bikini area hair myself, just some for swimsuit wearing. I have found that the Hair Removal Cream by Sally Hensen (?) to work real well, and is reasonably priced. The other option I use sometimes is a one of those trimmers marketed to trim eyebrows. It works real well also.

Other viable options.
~ I've heard a few celebs rave about: Smooth Away: https://www.getsmoothaway.com/ver37/index.asp. Despite what the site says, some stores (at least BB&B) carry it now.
~ You may want to learn threading. I found several good video tutorials on YouTube.
~ There are also good tutorials on Sugaring at home, which is much like waxing.
~ You could also consider permanent removal.

There is a lotion for that area, it is by Summer's Eve where the soaps, pads, tampons are in the store. I shave there and the first few times I got the bumps. It does go away. It is just new and not used to the shaving. Stick with it. Also, I use the Summer's Eve soap for 'down there' to make me fresher, that is actually what I use to shave with. Also, a brand new razor will give you bumps and burns. Use one on your legs for awhile and then try. They also now have a new razor that has two ends of it. One is a razor and one is a trimmer for the upper part. That would make sense to me that the razor part would be suitable for shaving 'down there'.......you will really feel fresher and cleaner when you do that. Good luck!

I have a Brazilian Bikini wax done on a regular basis. I love the clean way it feels and , yes, it heightens sensitivity. It's pretty painful the first two sessions or so, then it's not so bad. The pain only lasts a few minutes. I would recommend interviewing some professional aestheticians and I'm sure you'll find someone you're comfortable with. It's nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. We're all grown women here. If in Nashville, I highly recommend Madlen's Aesthetics on West End or Cornelia on White Bridge Road. Good Luck! You'll love not having to shave!

Hi T.,
I have shaved for years and have tried the whole waxing thing. After weighing the pros and cons, I decided that shaving was better for a couple of reasons. It is cheaper, way less painful, even when you get an ingrown hair, and you don't have to wait for your hair to be at a certain length before you can get another wax.
Anyways, there is a product out there called coochy cream (not sure on the spelling). I know it sounds pretty gross but it works pretty well. And I know this sounds a little strange also, but you can get it at your local s** t** shop.
Hope that helps.

Hey T., not so odd. Try switching your underwear to a boy cut style. Part of the problem is the underwear rubbing causing ingrown hairs, the bumps that hurt. There is a product out there called coochy creme. Its a rash free body shave creme. You will have to hunt online its not sold at stores from what I know. Also at night if you can try sleeping with no underwear on. Part of the trick to keep away the burn is to wet shave followed by a good lotion. My other recommendation is to purchace a trimmer if you dont have one. You can cut the hair short enough where you almost don't have to shave. Hope this helps.

I know how you feel. I too didn't like someone else viewing my personal area, but they are professionals and that is just what they do. You are at risk for infection with cuts and ingrown hairs etc.

I have LOVED getting lazer treatments done. It is expensive and you do want to find a credible place, but is so worth it! I had my legs done last year only two treatments and now even when I have hair you can't see it and it is soft. Before it was dark, thick, and bold! :)
I'm not going to lie, it does sting VERY bad when they do it, but then you are done and the results are amazing!

Waxing on the other hand works for your concerns b/c no bumps, infection etc. It hurts a little but not that bad and is way less $ than lazer.

Lazer kills a percentage of hair growth each treatment that will never come back to where waxing and shaving are both just temporarily getting rid of the hair.

Hope this helps.
Amanda
*If you're in Raleigh I have a great place for lazer!

I've experienced the same problems. What works for me is exfoliating the area before shaving(that helps with ingrown hairs), and after drying it completely using talcum powder every few hours for a couple of days. It works better than that bikini gel they have for sale. Hope this helps.

Use Bikini Zone. You can find it @ Walgreens or any drug store and maybe Walmart and Target. They have shaving gel for legs, underarms, bikini area and a cream that you can use afterwards that will help with bumps. Also, once you shave, rince with cooler water vs warm or hot water. For some reason, hot water will give you bumps in this area but the cooler water will not or at least reduce the bumps.

I used a shaving cream I purchased from a Passions Party called Coochie (I know... couldn't be a dumber name..lol) and that worked pretty well. Also, I don't remember how I heard this but someone told me to swipe a solid stick deodorant over the shaved area, the direction of the hair growth and it'll keep the bumps at bay.

Lots of great advice! I've been waxing for two years and won't ever stop - even when I feel like it's just an extra expense. The results are great and for me I can go 5 weeks between (although that last week is a little rough). I occassionally get an ingrown hair, but the lady who does my waxing puts something on before and after to help with it. Let us know what you decided.

First they put a cream to numb that area, also I tooked a pain killer before I went there. After she finished I felt great and it gives you this felling of cleanness. Also it last longer than a regular shaving.

Waxing is the only way to go. I am a VERY modest woman with very sensitive skin. I can't shave at all. The pain lessens each time you go and the hair becomes thinner and less dense. You just have to find someone that you are comfortable with and stick with them. I used to drive and hour each way about once a month for the lady that waxed me. Good luck. The first time is the worst, but then it gets better.

The best thing that I have found is vitamin e capsules. You grab about 3 or 4, poke holes in them and rub them on all areas that you have shaved. I do this for waxing, though, and you might want to try aloe vera first, for the burn, and let that dry before adding the vitamin e. Use the capsules because once exposed to air the oil loses its potency. I have the same issues with shaving and after too much trouble I opted for waxing. I know the stranger thing is a bit overwhelming, but if you can make it through the first session... you will be so much happier. I can't imagine going back to the razor! Plus, you only have to wax once every 3 weeks as opposed to shaving every 2 to 3 days. What a nightmare that was for me. If the above doesn't work for you there is a product that African American men use for razor bumps and burning. If I remember correctly it comes in a yellow box (?). You will find it in the hair care isle at any drug/grocery store. This did help me out before I discovered waxing. Good luck.

I had the same exact problem when I first started a couple of years ago. I did try some of the chemical solutions that dissolve the hair. It either left a burn or it didn't do a good job of removing the hair. The best thing that I figured was to change my razor often and to use a soothing shave gel. I did find a product that minized the razor bumps. It was intended for men's face, but it did diminish some of the problem. They finally stopped occuring after about two months of shaving.

If you find something that does a better job, let me know. ____@____.com

T., great advice only I suggest staying away from alcohol. It's very drying to the skin and I absolutely never use it unless I need to disinfect something! I only use Arbonne products for this reason and others. What I use for "your problem" which happens to be a problem for lots of people!!! Is that I use my husband's shave cream. We only use Arbonne and even his head is smoother and softer after he shaves. I use it for me...even down there and on my legs. It's great and doesn't leave bump problems. I have several black men as clients that use it also, because they have shaving issues. If you would like more info let me know. Hope this helps!!!

I dont think your question is odd just because it's not something that's frequently asked. :)

I shave this area regularly. I've been waxed, too. Waxing leaves you smoother, but does hurt a bit and be too costly to maintain if you're on a tight budget. You also have to let the hair grow back in a bit before you can wax again.

The trick to shaving is to take your time. If you're trying to squeeze it in while you hop in the shower for 10-15 minutes, you're going to have bumps and possibly nick yourself. This sounds weird, but I get much cleaner results if I soak in the tub first. The warm water helps relax the skin and open pores, also will soften the hair.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a moisturizing shaving gel or cream. Don't use soap if you can help it. apply the gel/cream and let it sit on the area for a minute or two, then shave. I've always been told to shave in the direction that the hair is growing - I do that but often find that it doesnt get it all and I have to go back over the area in another direction (use a small amount of shaving cream). dont go over the same spot more than 2-3 times or you might get razor burn (been there, done that....)

Also use a NEW razor blade - dont shave your legs and underarms first because that will dull the blade. Take your time with it, especially at first so you dont nick yourself.

Also, you might want to heavily moisturize the area after shaving. I like to use a thick lotion that absorbs fast, like Gold Bond Healing. keeps the area soft and smooth.

good luck and happy shaving!
