Oily Skin

Any suggestions or ideas for dealing with extremely oily skin and increased acne? I've got tons of blackheads on my chin and nose area and there's always at least one or two zits forming. I wash my face morning and night and wear light makeup and oil-free moisturizers.

What can I do next?

I use Proactive. I got it for Christmas in 2008 and I LOVE it. I used to have daily breakouts and oily skin but since I started using Proactive I have no breakouts and no oil. It is a little pricey but it works wonderful!! You can buy it at vendor carts in the mall, or online or by mail. Good luck!

It sounds like the products you are using might not be working for you for whatever reason. Skin changes over time due to pregnancies, age, enviormental factors, etc. My advice would be to see a dermatologist first and get a recommendation on a good cleanser and toner, plus be sure you are using the best moisturizer for your skin type. I personally use Keihl's products, and I have roseacea, so I'm very picky about what I use. They are all natural and wonderful. For makeup, again, it could be that you aren't using what will best benefit your skin. I used to use the basic Clinique liquid foundation and loose powder, but then I discovered Bare Escentuals - and WOW, I will never use anything else!! Most makeup brands these days have their own form of this type of makeup - it is basically loose powder "minerals" that serve as your concealer, foundation, blush, everything. You seriously feel like you are wearing no makeup at all but you get the BEST, clean look all day. You can even sleep in it and it doesn't get your pillow dirty or damage your skin from overuse (I have not tried sleeping in it but this is their claim and I believe it). I love how it makes me look, plus, I know it's good for my skin. I hope this helps!

Neutragena (probably spelled wrong) has a system similar to Proactive, but I think it's cheaper & I've had good luck with it. I have a very oily T-zone and would constantly break out. Plus if I used mositurizer on the dry spots I would break out. Now it's not bad.

Pore strips are great to get rid of the blackheads on your nose and chin. Maybe you're cleansing too much? The more you wash, the more oil you skin produces to compensate for the lost moisture. Try using a cleansing product only at night for a while and see if that helps. I used ProActive before, but it just got too expensive and seemed to lose its effectiveness over a few months anyway. I now use Biore products from the drugstore and they've helped keep my skin clear for the most part. I also recommend a great product by Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC), called skin renewal moisture lotion with 8% alpha hydroxy complex. It has done a fantastic job of evening out my skin tone and making my skin softer and smoother. It has also lightened my acne scars and the "mask of pregnancy" I developed on my chin when I was pregnant. Good luck!

Be careful how you are washing - too much scrubbing or stimulation can increase the oil production. You could consider a facial from a really reputable esthetician - it will clean out the blackheads but it won't solve the problem of too much oil. My skin has never been better since I started using Reliv's skin care products. It's designed to actually repair the skin by getting it to the right PH. It's available thru distributors. I also take their nutritional products which heal a lot from the inside - cleaning out the toxins in each cell. If you have a lot of stuff going on with individual pores (blackheads & zits) then that will help you too. These don't look like the cheapest products out there BUT you use very little and it really works - better than throwing your money at stuff that doesn't! Zits don't only happen to teens but you may need something that isn't made just for teen skin. I got zits well past what I imagine your age to be, and I haven't had anything since. Let me know if you want more info.

Hi D.,
My name is C. and I am Rep with Arbonne International. We have great Swiss formulated, 100% Vegan products that are not only affordable, but non-toxic, pure, and botanical. We are much safer than anything you will find in the department stores and much less expensive. I may be able to help you with a skin care regimen and makeup. I can show you how to save 35% of your cost and order directly online so it shipped to your home. I would, however, like to meet you and assess your needs so I can recommend what would work best for your individual skin type. That is not completely necessary, but would be for your benefit in choosing the right product(s).
Thank you D., and have a great day!

Hi D.,
I don't have oily skin, but I had a really strange backne breakout a year ago and my doctor gave me a prescription ointment that worked like a charm. I don't remember what it's called, but if the solutions below don't work, you might want to consult your doctor. Good luck!

Have you tried Proactive?? My mother and I use it. It worked GREAT for her. We are Portuguese and have naturally oily skin. My oil level is fine, but did have a lot of blackheads and breakouts since my son was born. It didn't work as well for me, but still helped quite a bit. Everyone i know that has tried it says its balanced them out and completely changed their skin. Good luck!

Hi D.,

If you have clogging in your pores, try using a quality exfoliating product that will shed the dead skin and help clean the follicle (pore). I like the Phytomer skin care line. Try the vegetal exfoliant. Phytomer makes a line for oily skin called Oligopur. Also you can try a toner and/or moisturizer with AHA/glycolic acid.

Phytomer is expensive, but splurge for the vegetal exfoliant. You can buy other skin care lines for oily skin, but be careful they aren't over drying.

Hi D., It's E. Taft again -- sorry didn't realize you were the same gal who is having the eye make-up issues, or I would have combined my suggestions. You may wish to check out Shaklee's all-natural skin care line also. I have customers who claim that these are the first cleansers and moisturizers that do not make their skin break out -- that doesn't mean that it will do the same for you; however, it is certainly a possibility. Remember, you can always get your money back if you are not happy with the results by contacting Shaklee within 60 days of purchase. I would read about our "Acne Clarifying Complex", "Calming Complex", and all other products in our Enfuselle Skin Care line. Again, please don't hesitate to call me with any questions. www.emilytaft.com ###-###-#### ____@____.com Best Wishes E. Taft

Are you using a moisturizer with an SPF? I found that my skin was awful with breakouts when I was using one. Also, I started washing with Neutrogena Acne Stress Control foaming wash and toner and my skin is so much better. Good luck!

I use MaryKay wash and lotion day and night. It takes a few weeks to clear your face up and then it keeps it clear. If you don't like that product the key is to use a wash and lotion that are from the same company, that are made to work together.

Hi D.,
You didn't mention your age. It sounds like your sebum is producing too much oil. This can come from a variety of things, over washing (your skin is trying to catch up), your ph is off, hormones, even make up & skin care that has animal by products or mineral oil in it. When your skin is too oily; acne or breakouts can form.
I found out that certain compacts (face powders) that are used to absorb oil can actually have mineral oil and/or animal by products in it when they are used the face is patted with the powder and will layer the face with more and more oils from the powder itself. You end up with a cake like look at the end of the day and sometimes even orangey because it oxidized during the time it was on the face. Yuck!
My friend had very oily skin and switched to a different skincare that included a moisturizer, yes; even oily and acne prone skin needs the correct moistuizer so the skin can become balanced. She uses Arbonne, it is a fragrance free, dye free Vegan product line (made from plants). She uses the make up line as well and a product called the Personalizer. It is a compact which is oil free & has a slight green tinge. It goes on translucent and cuts the redness from the face which is usually seen with oily skin.
The best way is to meet you and do an assessment on your skin to find out what product line will work best for your situation. I'm not sure where you live, but let me know and I would be happy to give you a Free Skincare & Make up Consultation. I do both since both are very important factors when dealing with skin. This is why I love this business. I get to help people and have fun at the same time. I look forward to hearing from you.
If you are interested let me know and I will let you know how you can try the product for free. Good luck and remember there is hope. I have a discount coupon on the Mom Owned Businesses part of this site. I hope I've helped. L.
