Oh NOOOOOO!
My 8 month old just ate bird poop! I was sitting on the deck holding him, talking to a neighbor, and unbeknownst to me there was a big fresh bird dropping on the deck railing behind me...he's at such a grabby stage right now, and before I even knew it...ugh gross. I got as much of it as I could out of his mouth, but I know he swallowed some. Seemed happy as a clam about it too. You think he'll be ok? Any crazy bird diseases I should watch out for now?
So What Happened?™
He was just fine...

LOL kinda funny in a gross way...
As for bird diseases, I'd not be hyper freaked out - but bird poop can carry a different form of chlamydia, parasites and bacteria. I did not tell you this to upset you, because the chances are so slim that it will even be an issue - but I still thought you may want to know.

I can't stop laughing. OH EWWWWWW!!!
He will most likely be fine. At 8 months he is pretty resilient.
I had a crawler eat cat litter, she survived and is now 13.

Bird (all breeds/varieties) poop (both fresh and old) carries dangerous fungi and bacteria that can make you seriously ill. One common illness in particular is Histoplasmosis, which causes flu-like symptoms and blindness.
Definitely get your child to the doctor. Hopefully he'll be fine, but you won't know until it's too late if you just wait it out. By the time he has full blown symptoms, if he's going to have them, he'll be in trouble.

I would call the dr. just for sanity's sake ... I am not sure what could be transferred thru that but you may want to call and check with the doc to be sure.

More than likely he'll be fine.
Babies grab everything and into the mouth it goes.
My sister as a baby use to chew on the cats tail.
What child in a house full of pets hasn't got a hold of the dog/cat food or chew biscuits once in awhile.
A neighbors baby at a neighborhood picnic ate a caterpillar once - her Mom totally freaked out.
I think there was one of those video shows on awhile ago that had a Dad who used a plastic Halloween mouse and he jury rigged a pacifier so it looked like his child was sucking on a mouse (just tail and legs hanging out of the child's mouth) - the video showed the Mom SCREAMING when she caught sight of it and the baby is just happily sucking away.
No doubt Dad was in the dog house after that one for awhile.

Yep, it's disgusting, but I'm cracking up at the same time! Call the ped to be on the safe side, but I'm sure he'll be a-ok!

If you haven't called your pediatrician, I would call Poison Control. Bird poop is a toxic substance. It's not like eating bugs or lint. I'm sure he'll be all right but you need to know what to look out for and how to deal with it. Poison Control will be your most immediate form of help along with your pediatrician.
