Ob/gyn That Does Vbacs???

I am looking for a doctor in the Kansas City area that does VBACs. My son was born 3 months early by c-section. I am pregnant again and would love to find a doctor that has some experience with high risk pregnancy and is willing to try a VBAC. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

My doctor, Mark Finkelston, does do VBACs but I think it would depend on your case. You'd have to call and make a visit for sure, but he's awesome! The office # is ###-###-####.

Dr. Howard Schwartz did my VBAC in October 2008. He is with Midwest Women's Healthcare. He delivers at North KC hospital and Research. Awesome group.

Try Women's Healthcare Group in Overland Park, in front of Overland Park Regional. Dr. Estrin or Dr. Moulton are who I saw. I loved them both! ###-###-####

Hi S.,
Melanie Martin at Johnson County OBGYN does perform VBACs. I had a c-section with my first son because my labor was not progressing and he ended up being a really large baby(10 lbs)! For my second I wanted a VBAC and was still with my original doctor, he thought i would need a repeat and actually had me scheduled but I went to the hospital the night before in active labor and Martin was the doctor on call. She was amazing and told me she thought I could deliver vaginally if I still wanted to. I ended up delivering in the middle of the night with her. I know you have a different situation because of high risk and I am not quite sure if she does high risk, but as far as the VBAC she was awesome and I would try her. Good Luck and congrats on the pregnancy!

The problem is that lots of OB's will SAY they are willing to give a VBAC, but very few really mean it. The best way to tell is to look at their Csection rates. Get it in writing. Anything above 10% is WAY too much.

Also, the more interventions they are comfortable with (internal monitoring, breaking your water, pitocin, etc., etc.), the more likely you will end up with a csection. I don't know why you are high risk, but I would strongly encourage you to look into using a hospital based midwife. A few months ago I would have recommended Midwest Midwifery because their VBAC rates used to be very good (not sure about now), but they are lately very sketchy, in my opinion. I used them for my first VBAC 19 months ago, but chose a homebirth last month because I felt they were not as open to it as they were a year and a half ago.

Again, depending on why you are high risk, you have options. PM me if you have more questions.

I was very impressed with Dr. Lemberger with Independence Women's Clinic. I never got the chance to talk to her about a VBAC but I'm sure she would be open to it. Most doctors will try to steer you away from a VBAC but ultimately, it is your choice. Stick to your guns and don't let them talk you out of something that you really want. There is no reason not to try.
