Does anyone know anything about these apts? I am considering renting a townhome there but currently live out of state. Supposedly they are across the street from the mall there. Safe family friendly area?? Good elementary school? Nice place to live?? THanks in advance!

What can I do next?

not a great place. However, further South down Alma (same area, essentially that feeds in to PISD schools (I think Aldridge, Wilson, Vines and PSHS) is a complex called Homes of Prarie Springs. I am not sure if it is price that you are super bound by, but I lived in HOPS for 3 years and was very safe as a single woman. I would check them out. The floor plans are a bit more open and it is at least a gated complex. I think it would be a MUCH better choice than a mile up the road, if it is do-able for you. Ask about discounts if you are employed in the area. I was a PISD teacher, they didn't have PISD as a company to deal with, however, they DID give me a better rent rate after checking into things...so it may be worth asking.
Good luck.

I would advise against it. My husband and me looked at them, they look okay from the outside but inside the townhomes looked old; the leasing office promised to do repairs and painting to make it look nicer, but we declined especially after checking crime reports. If you are looking for nice townhomes we did check out Archstone at Preston Park, Summer's Crossing, The Reserve at Charles Place, and Mission Gate. If you are seeking a nice area with less crime its best to be in far West Plano that's where all others are. Best zip codes in plano are: 75093, 75024, 75023 and 75025. Don't get me wrong there are some nice places in the 75075 and 75074 but in my opinion there are nicer places with less crime in the other area codes and better schools. The mall it is located near is Collin Creek Mall which barely has people going to it. If you are looking for a place close to a mall try moving in plano near Willow Bend Mall (west plano) or close to Stonebriar Mall (located in frisco). Ultimately we ended up renting a house on the west side of plano near frisco because with the prices we saw for the townhomes we could get a home for double the space and have great schools for our kids to attend.

I think you are talking about the apts on the SE corner of Plano and Alma? I live a block from there and I agree with Tina van Z. There are nicer ones a block south and they were built, maybe 10 years ago? The Oaks really needs a facelift, from what I can tell from the outside. There is also a complex at Park and Alma, NE corner. Nicer than Oaks but not as nice as Homes of Prairie Springs.

I lived there for a year. I felt safe enough inside my apartment, but not so much outside. The office staff is super nice, and I found it amazing that they always remembered my name even just the second time I ever went in there to sign my lease. I don't know anything about the schools as I was pregnant while I lived there with my first child. I lived there from Jan. 2009-Jan. 2010. They are very old. They are in ok condition though. The only complaint I had was that the carpet in my apartment looked older than me. It was really crappy. I complained about it after I moved in. They just waived my pet deposit. Oh well...If you can find something better, I'd go there. Plano is very family friendly I think. There are tons of things for families there. I would maybe just find somewhere else to live.
