Nuvaring - Grand Prairie,TX

Hi Ladies,

I was just wondering if anyone had good/bad experiences with the Nuvaring. I have not gotten back on the pill since my son was born a year ago. I'm almost 36 years old and don't really feel like the hormones are good for me and I think my migraines have gotten better.

However, I'm now wondering if I should reconsider getting back on something. I'm tired of worrying about getting pregnant by using less realiable methods and am getting horrible PMS which I think the pill may have helped.

So I guess my question is...do people have better luck with the Nuvaring having fewer side effects/lower hormones or does it get into your system the same as the pill with the only difference being the method?

Thanks!

Thanks.

What can I do next?

I have to agree with Carolyn. I hated it because it wouldn't stay in right and was uncomfortable. Only used it a week.

Hi K.. I used it for about a year and had no issues with it. If you have fear use a backup method such as the condom. Don't forget no birth control is 100% effective. (The pill is about 99.7% effective) Hope this helps...

I used it after my son was born and LOVED it. So freaking easy, no worries about it falling out, neither of us could feel it, no side effects. Perfect BC for me.

The only downside is that I would actually forget about it, but if you ask, NuvaRing will give you this little timer (for free) that will beep at you to take it out and beep at you to put a new one in a week later.

Good luck!

I've been using Nuvaring for about 3 years since the birth of my son (got pregnant while using the Pill). I love the ring. I've had a few issues with it but nothing I consider serious. It has come out a couple of times during intercourse. If I catch it in time, I just slip it back in. One time it ended up in the wash with my sheets and I didn't find it until it had gone through a complete wash cycle. I called my doctor and he said "It's Downy fresh now. Just put it back in." Of course he recommended a back-up method until my next period just in case. Also, spotting seems to be pretty regular. I expect to start spotting about 3 days before I'm scheduled to remove the ring and have a period. When I first started using it, I'd spot for about a week before but it's gotten better recently. As a matter of fact, a couple of months ago I didn't have a period at all. A pregnancy test came back negative so I called the doc & he told me that my body is absorbing the medicine enough to actually keep me from having a period. If only that would happen every month. (sigh...) Overall, I love not having to worry about taking a pill every day, it's easy to put in and take out, it doesn't come out on its own and once it's in you can't feel it. I recommend it for sure!

Best of luck!

Hi K.,

I have not checked the other responses, but I will tell you that I really loved being on Nuvaring. I also went on it after having my first child. In the past, I always felt hormonal and moody on the Pill. I do not feel this way on Nuvaring. Also, it helped with my cramping and keeping my skin clear. I liked that it was not a hormone pill that was going through my blood stream. I think this helped me quite a bit. I have tried just about every pill out there and felt most like "myself" on Nuvaring than anything else. Good luck! I think it's worth giving it a try.

I used Nuvaring before my 5-y-o was born and liked it; didn't like it do much after him because I'd had a huge episiotomy and stitches and my architecture had changed, I guess. I also do not get migraines, etc. I an 36, too, and after my last baby in 2008 I got Paragard. That's the hormone-free IUD. My insurance covered it and I have no complaints. My periods are slight heavier, but I am not worried about PG, so I accept the trade-off. HTH.

I was on the ring for about 4 or 5 years and loved it. I didn't have side effects and I felt like it really curbed my PMS. I have been on the pill and the patch when it first came out but liked the ring the best. I would be back on it, however I got pregnant while taking it and now am on the mini pill since I'm nursing. I must say though that my sister and I are both my mom's birth control babies so I think we're just very fertile. lol I recommend the ring and plan on getting back on it when I stop nursing. Good luck!

I was on the Nuvaring for 8 months and LOVED IT. Once it was in it never fell out and I could never feel it. My hubby was worried that it might effect our intimacy, but it didn't. No side effects for me either. I had been on the pill for over 10 years and was glad to rid of it. I am no longer on the Nuvaring, as I recently had a baby and opted to have my tubes tied as this was my last child. I would however recommend Nuvaring. Check with your Dr for samples. Mine gave me like 5 or 6, so I didn't have to fill a prescription for almost 6 months!
