Nuva Ring Questions

I don't really know too much about the nuva ring. I am still breastfeeding my 17 month old and I don't have my period yet. (I started it when my first was 17 1/2 months and my second when he was 16 months). Will getting on the nuva ring cause me to get my period? We want more children, but I have to wait a few years to put my body back together. I just don't want to get my period any sooner that I have to!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I use the mirena IUD. It is 99.9% effective!!! My son is 12 months old now and I breastfed for 6 months, and never got my period back. I finally had the IUD put in when my son was 9 months old. I have not had any problems and I still have no period. I can have it taken out whenever I want and I can get pregnant again the day after it is removed (if I want to). Dr. Coleman is a miracle worker! Good Luck!

I know nothing about the nuva ring? What happened when you were on it the first time? Did you take a pregnancy test before starting? Have you taken a pregnancy test recently. Are you seriously still breastfeeding?? Holy cow!! Good luck with that.

Whats so bad about getting your period? I think that would be better than getting prego again so soon. I used the nuva ring for about a year and got a lot of bladder infections from it. But the doc said that is normal if you have something foreign in your body like that. I would maybe talk to your doctor about it. They would know.

I loved the Nuva Ring at first. Yes you will have a period if you use it as dirrected. When you take it out for a week, that is when you have your period. After the first few months I started having alot of spotting and discharge. I quit using it after that. It also raised my cholesterol. It may work great for you I have several friends that love it.

Like Sonja B., as an RN I have a real aversion to putting anything foreign into my body that I don't have to. So 14 years ago my husband & I started using the Sympto-Thermal Method of Natural Family Planning. It's easy to use, completely natural, & allows you to get to know your body instead of changing it. It's 99% effective at postponing pregnancy, & is extremely useful at achieving pregnancy when the times comes for that! There are no side effects! Check it out at www.ccli.org. All of our children were spaced using this method.

I really liked the nuvaring, I was on it for a year after having my fifth child, when I switched to an iud. I had NO problems whatsoever, I just wanted something I could 'forget about' without anything permanent being done. I HATED the shot the two times I was on it. Both times, when I quit and tried to get pregnant again, it took me over a year to get pregnant, almost two years of trying. Both times, I lost the first pregnancy early. And I gained weight.

The nuvaring reminded me of a jelly bracelet, you'd fold it in half and insert it. You didn't have to go extremely far up to let go, either, it fit itself into place. Nothing 'out of the ordinary' for me with it. Go to the website and check it out.

Sorry, the kids spaced me out, I also forgot to mention... Nuvaring did not damage my milk supply, nor judging by my sons pudgy cheeks, quality. I got light periods. Do NOT go on mirena iud if you want to have kids in less than five years unless your dr says so.

i recommend the mirena IUD. no periods for me!

I am not a fan of the nuva ring or iud's, I was on the shot for 4 years and had no issues with it except a little weight gain, but no periods, I also nursed my son until he was three, while on the shot, it was fine. personally I will never get on a birth control again, I have done some extensive research (med school student, it was required to research a topic and I choose BC) into depo, nuvo, iud's, and otherbirth controlls, they are all bad for you :-( you may not have side effects right away, but they will come, there simply is not enough research out there to support the pro and cons. so good luck.
