Nutritional Weight Loss Smoothies?

Hi Everybody!

My baby is 8 months old and it is time for this weight to get off of me! We just relocated to a Shreveport, LA and I've joined a gym so that I can go in during my lunch break. I am motivated (finally) to really get this weight off of me...its hard chasing after my baby! He is growing and moving so fast now :)

On top of starting to exercise again, I want to try to start eating healthy as well. One of the things I'm starting is making smoothies...I was wondering if any of you mamas can recommend a nutritional weight loss smoothie that does not taste like chalk. I have started making my own fruit smoothies, but I was wondering if there is a smoothie mix out there that has protein, keeps me full, and will satisfy that sweet tooth craving (like a chocolate flavor smoothie...)

As usual any advice is appreciated...I have tried the smoothies that are sold at Wal-Mart and a few at GNC, and I was not impressed. I wanted to see what you guys thought before I bought Medifast, or Right Size Smoothies, or products like those. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I have been using Visalis for a few months and it tastes like cake. I think you can only get it from persons selling it. If you are interested, e-mail me privately and I'll give you my rep's name. I use it with milk, yogurt, juices, coffee...whatever strikes my fancy.

I use Shaklee's Cinch powder in my smoothies. I have used them for 17 years and love the taste. The greatest thing about Cinch is you lose fat and not muscle.
Let me know if you are interested.

Our family favorite is one banana, about 1/2 to 3/4 cup (to taste) each of OJ, apple juice and cranberry juice, and about three cups of frozen strawberries.* We've never used a powder or mix, just fruit, juice and sometimes plain nonfat yogurt for a calcium boost.
I think you can buy basic, flavorless protein powders at the health food store?
Beans are another way to get high protein, low fat nutrition, though I wouldn't suggest putting them in a smoothie, lol!
*if you use fresh strawberries add some ice or else the smoothie won't be cold enough :)

I use ViSalus shakes and they are very good! I always felt like the others tasted like chalk or gritty and these do not. Good luck in your search! If you would like more info, please let me know.

I like the GNC brand Vanilla flavored protein powder mixed with frozen fruit and water. Smoothie King protein powder is nasty and gritty, but has a lot of protein. I just can't stand to use it. I also sometimes mix the Vanilla protein powder with ice, water and sugar-free orange flavored Kool-Aid type drinks, like half of one of those single serving packets works well for me. I tend not to like the chocolate flavored shakes, so I can't help you there. Good luck! I have lost 140# doing Muay Thai and drinking protein shakes. I have about 20 more pounds that I would like to use, but have not been eating right -- lots of junk food, but I am maintaining my weight because I exercise so much. Need to get back to those protein shakes!

I'd make them completely from scratch if you can. That way you know exactly what's in it. I use Whey protein powder (NOW Brand). 1 scoop powder, 1 cup coconut milk, 1 cup frozen pineapple, 1 T flax or chia seed, blend. Our son cannot have milk based products so I use egg white protein powder instead of the whey. He loves chocolate, so I make his with 1/2 scoop egg white protein powder, 1/2 cup frozen banana, 1 T flax or chia seed, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk.

I found that you have to experiment with different fruits and milks to get a taste that you will like. I recommend using frozen fruits though so that you will have a more thick smoothie.
