Hi M.. I actually had the same questions when I was pregnant. I went into one of those maternity stores - Mimi Maternity in the Flatirons mall in Broomfield and the women who worked there were so helpful. They told me which to buy for the time and what I should expect through my pregnancy into breast feeding. If you don't get any advice back, you may try one of those stores.

Good luck!

I suggest you go see Heidi at Maternal Instincts in Sandy. She's an internationally known lactation educator. Her address is 676 East 9400 South Union Square; Sandy, UT 84070; Phone ###-###-#### website: http://themomshop.com/
I loved the bras she sold me and she's very knowledgable and kind.

Congrats!
I would suggest purchasing a sports bra style nursing bra- They are noramlly form this size to that size and not just for one size. They one I bought and like the best is from Target. It is great for bedtime and lazy days around the house- alot less binding then a fitted bra.
I'd wait to get a fitted bra until you rmilk comes in- like two weeks after your baby is born and you get you rmilk supply established. It seems those first two weeks my size went up and down alot. I would have had to buy like three different sizes in those first two weeks had I bought it early or then.
Also, I purchased fitted nursing bras from Walmart and did not like it. I would definately just go to MotherHood and spent the extra $5-$7 to get a better one. I actually have used mine from MotherHood through two pregnancies and two nursings.

My advice is to wait close to two weeks after the baby is born if you can, or buy one now and the rest a couple weeks after. With my first child I never changed sizes I was a bit "swollen" looking during my pregnancy but that went away and I was fine after that. However with my second child I had the same "swollen" look so I thought it would be the same, so I bought new nursing bras just a few days after my son was born, and then I began to enlarge. I went up 2 bras sizes in less then 2 weeks. I just weaned my son and am hoping to go back down but we will see. If you are looking for a good place to buy nursing bras (especially if you are full figured or have had trouble getting the right size in the past) The Maternal Insticts in Sandy on 94th S and 7th E is the best place I have found.

I would make sure to have at least the bras before you deliver. I even packed mine in my hospital bag. If you have access to a "Motherhood" type store than I would suggest going there and being fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. If I remember correctly you just go up one cup size. Some other must have breastfeeding items are washable breast pads, lanolin, nursing cover up (Target) and a boppy pillow. Congratulations on your little girl, they are so much fun!

You need to wait. As your breasts engorge with milk, your bra size will change. You will also need to see what feels comfy. Not all bras re that way and will make you hurt. Good luck with the nursing.

M., I bought all of my nursing bras at Wal-mart and they worked just fine. They are made to stretch. You should get the size you are now. Nursing bras are usually made bigger because "they" know you will get bigger when your milk comes in. You need to be buying the bras and shirts now so you have them on hand right from the start. The last thing you're going to want to do when you get home from the hospital is go shopping and try on clothes. Get what size you are now and you should be fine. If you want to get a cup size larger that should be alright because you're going to be stuffing it with nursing pads anyway, something else you need to look into as well. They have disposible and washable ones depending on which you will prefer, just make sure you have alot on hand as well. Something else I have is a sleep and leisure bra. It is kind of a relaxed bra but it made sleeping so much more comfortable rather than wearing a full support bra that was tight. It was loose but still enough support to hold the nursing pads overnight and it easily moved aside for nightime nursing. You have alot of advice tips here. I hope you can find something that works for you! Best wishes!

Your bra size will change many times! I have three different sizes. One size from my last few weeks of pregnancy (which lasted about two weeks), a bigger size (after that) which lasted about 7 months, and then a smaller size when my milk started to go away. I had to scrap all my pre-pregnancy bras because they were too small. So, in my opinion, just by a bra that works, maybe only one or two in the same size, because it's going to change (a lot!). You don't need to spend a lot of money. Target has some pretty good ones (in their bra and panty section).

I bought mine about 2-3 weeks before I was due and even then it was bigger than I was at the time to allow for the growth from the milk. I also bought some more comfortable sleeping-nursing bras that had even more stretch which it what I wore for the first 3-4 weeks while my milk came in and became established. By then my body had adjusted and I was able to use the other bras (which by then fit). About 6 months later I had to buy a new one and 3 months later another one since you'll change sizes as your body adjusts and your baby is eating less milk and more solids.

Congrats on the baby! Baby girls are fun!

You will grow a FULL cup size bigger and MAYBE an inch bigger for fullness! At least that's what I experienced 4 times! easiest if you buy the kind of bra that flips down in the front!

Motherhood will hook ya up. They take your measurement and they have a large verity of bras. There staff is very helpful. That's what I did, worked out great. Oh and as to when to get it... I waited a week after I had my baby. That parts really up to you. Good Luck! Have a wonderful day!!!

Wait until your milk comes in. I bought a couple before my son was born and took the advice of the salesperson to go a little bigger. But it turned out that I was already as big as I was going to get. Since everyone is different, save your money and wait. Even then, only buy 1 or 2. Your boobies will change size again after the engorgement period goes away.

Oh, and I agree about the Bosom Buddies store being a great place to get maternity and nursing gear. Their salespeople are excellent.

I just went to Motherhood Maternity and purchased some maternity bra's. They measured me, so that I would purchase the correct size. The sales lady was very informative and was able to answer a lot of my questions. You might want to start purchasing nursing shirts now, because as you get closer to your due date, that will be the last thing on your mind. Good luck, I too am expecting my second son on November 12. I have a boy who will be turning 3 this month.

I would definately wait on buying a bra until your milk comes in. In the last few weeks of my first pregnancy I went out and got a sports bra so I would have something in the first few weeks of birth. I went from a 34C to a 36DD once my milk came in. That was a huge difference. Even after I had my first and stopped breastfeeding I could barely get back into my 34C I went to a 36C and now after my second I am at a 38C. So it can change alot. I just started exercising again and I know it will change again.

One of my best friends went from a 32A to a 34C and now she is at a 34B after 3 kids. And with you already having a child you should have some sort of idea on how your breasts will change. Mine didn't change as much with my second child.

Anyway I hope this helps.

In my experience, if you plan on breast feeding, you may want to get the next size up. But the best advice I received was to go to Bosom Buddies (I use the one by Park Meadows). Also, if you go there you can get really supportive bras with no underwire. They are worth the extra $. My little girl came early (36 weeks) & none of the nursing bras I bought to wear during pregnancy fit by the time I got home from the hospital a month later. Good luck!

I bought two of them before I had my baby but had to go back after my milk came in to buy another two that were bigger. I think it's probably nice to have bought one so you have it when you leave the hospital but I went from a B to an E when I was nursing and had bought D and had to go back in to get the new ones. I didn't use many shirts as it seemed like more of a hassle but I guess some people like them.

Check out http://www.bosombuddies.com/. They have two stores in the Denver metro area, and they are a great resource for nursing bras & related information. I've found the people who work there to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

These last few weeks of your pregnancy are when you should purchase those items. And you should purchase them in the size that currently fits you. That's what I've always been told.

It's been awhile since I had kids, but I think you should be buying them towards the end of your pregnancy (you may be getting close to the time to buy them now). You will need them a little bigger as your breasts do get bigger during pregnacy. It is also very important to get the right size when you are hursing. When I have gone to Walmart, they have had a measurng tape that you can measure your breast size with. I like the bras that you can unclip around your nipple instead of having to lift the entire bra up.

Hi M.
I actually never bought nursing bras since I didn't like them; but I bought sports bras and they were wonderful for me. I bought them around 33 weeks and since they could expand, I didn't have any problems. You need to try them on and see if they fit you.
Congratulations!

I waited until I was about 35 weeks and then I went and tried on a bunch of nursing bras. I am a big fan of the bella materna bras - they are expensive but worth every dime!

I would only buy one for now and maybe go up one size. When your milk is in you will go even bigger, then you will gradually decrease in size again. I went to motherhood with my middle baby and they sized me wrong, so I won't go back there, but with my last baby I went to the lactation station and they measured me and had a large variety to look through. I loved the bras. The only thing... after your body gets used to your babies supply and demand, you ususally aren't as big. (at least with my 3 kids) I ususally am up one size from my non pregnant size. I now get cheap ones from walmart that fit perfectly. and you don't feel guilty replacing them if you change sizes because they are so cheap...yet comfortable. Hope this helps

Congrats on your baby girl!
All the employees at Bosom Buddies (Park Meadows area & Westminster) have special training on fitting regular and nursing bras and you can choose from a huge selection of softcup, underwire and sleeping bras as well as nursing tanks. Sometimes the old rule of thumb "one cup size larger & one band size larger" works, but every woman is unique. Measuring is a start, but there is no standard in bra sizing, so different bras will fit differently.

The advice I've seen about needing different sizes over time is definitely true for many women. The bras you buy at 32 weeks MAY fit through the first weeks of breastfeeding, but more likely you will change enough that nursing bras you buy at 32 weeks will fit after a month or so of breastfeeding.

The bras at Bosom Buddies range in price from $18 to $58, so you have a wide selection. This is the time in your life when your bras are going to be doing heavy-duty work and you'll probably be wearing and washing them more than any other time.

The best time to buy a nursing bra? Whenever the bra you are wearing is too small, or during your last month of pregnancy.
