Nursery Water or Not?

I have a 2.5 month old and he is on formula due to medical complications with me and I cannot feed him. My daughter was always on breastmilk. I have been using the nursery water as water for the formula. Also he goes to day care as I went back to work when he was 2 monthold. I feel that is a little extra to help him.

What other moms have done, will you use regular water. Our doc says if it is okey for us it is just fine for him.

Thank You For the advice in advance.

What can I do next?

My pediatrician actually told me not to use it. My son in over 3 now, so their formulation might have changed. When he was an infant, the amount of fluoride exceeded what is deemed acceptable by the EPA and other groups. Not only that, doctors say that newborns should not be given too much fluoride. (The same reason there is no fluoride in infants toothpaste, and it's only added in toddler pastes.) Nursery water has ADDED fluoride, that exceeds what is found in tap water.

Personally, I used filtered water...but was not afraid to use tap, if needed.

Nursery water? What the heck is that? I always used tap water. Doc is right if it is good enough for you it's good enough for baby.

We use regular tap-water for our baby. Our pedi told us not to use bottled 'nursery water' but I don't remember the reason (no fluoride maybe?). Anyway, three kids, all bottle fed, and I used tap water for all three.

We just used tap water, no problems. Why not just get a filter thingy for your kitchen sink faucet if you are worried.

I used tap water from the sink in the kitchen and bathroom. Never heated it up, sterilized it, or any other special thing.
My son was just fine (AND he was actually on an NG tube for his formula and it was still tap water).

I did use a gallon of nursery water but then boiled tap water and used that once it was cooled off. I bloiled enough to fill a jug and when it was almost gone, boiled more. saved me money.

Just used filtered water. He doesn't need the flouride, especially if his vitamins have flouride already.

I am a daycare provider here in IL and the state requires us to use bottle water for infant formula if that tells you anything.
I buy generic usually. If you spend more then a buck a gallon you are overpaying. Remember water doesn't go bad so you can stock up.

NOW, that said, I would give my own baby regular tap water if I had formula fed. When I mixed their cereal it was with tap water. There is added floride to tap water but I am sure it is enough to matter for cereal, but not sure about with formula. There are limits on how much floride an infant is suposed to have.

When I had to transition to formula I too used nursery water and in fact still do. I preferred it over tap water and found filtering all that water would be too time consuming & expensive considering a gal of nursery water is only $1 here.

I also found my babies did better with their formula at room temp instead of warm or cold.

Peace and Blessings,

It depends. With my oldest I used Brita filtered water from the tap. With the youngest I tried using this but the result was a lot of gas and spit up. I didn't change anything else but the water and the spit up and gas was a lot less. We had to use it until she was 9 months and then I was finally able to transition her to regular filtered water from the tap.

It just depends on your little one. Try the filtered water and if you experience a lot of issues, try the nursery water to see if it helps.

We did have a lot of other issues to contend with including a dairy issue and acid reflux but with the help of our Dr. the water change did help.

We use a brita pitcher of filtered tap water. This is the same water that we drink too.

We used Nursery Water because it is filtered a lot more plus it doesn't have all the added chlorine and stuff that's in our drinking water. It only has Fluoride which helps the teeth.

A friend of mine moved to a foreign country for a short time through hubby's work. They did not have good water like the USA and her kids who were younger at that time all have worse teeth than her older kids who had fluoride in their drinking water, not proof of course but a possible correlation.

We bought Nursery Water in the boxes of 3 gallons so we'd always have it on hand.

I use filtered water, but I do use bottled water when traveling. I think it's Gerber, but I use the Pure water. It's cheaper than Nursery water.

We always used nursery water. It wasn't expensive and the peace of mind was worth it. I figured I probably saved money over having to boil and find proper sanitized containers for the formula water.

Our water source at the time was not flourinated. And though it was tested municipal water, I didn't trust it. They add so much chlorine and other chemicals when processing I couldn't see putting that into my baby.

I used tap or filtered water when making formula. Nursery water seems more about marketing than health to me. I would assume all of those plastic nursery water bottles are filled with BPA which is more harmful than helpful for your little one. If you aren't happy with your tap water, I would recommend using a water filter.
