Nursery Rhyme Costumes

Help! My sons preschool is having a costume party in 2 weeks. They want him to dress like a nursery rhyme character. Unfortunately I have no imagination, does anyone have any ideas on how to make a costume? Thanks for all your help.

What can I do next?

Hi everyone. Thank you all for all of your ideas. I actually went with the itsy bitsy spider idea. It turned out great and he liked it. Thank You all a bunch.

I had twin boys and making their costumes were challenging. but I can offer some suggestions.
little jack horner should be easy, using a flannel shirt, overalls(jeans) and then you would just need a straw hat.

the same with Jack of Jack and Jill.

if you have books for the children, look in their for the image and try to match it.

How 'bout the itsy bitsy spider. You could put him in black sweat pants and a black turtle neck. You could sew stuffed sleeves on to the turtle neck to make the xtra spider legs....
Or he could be little boy blue...you could put him in a pair of jeans and a plaid shirt..then buy him a straw hat and a pretend "bugle"....that should be pretty easy.
Hope this helps.....

you could contact coustume stores to see what they have for sale or rentals.check out 2nd hand stores.call your your local craft/sewing stores for ideas.go on line and get idea's.your local book stores and librairy are great resources.one coustume
i recall making for (humpty dumpty)i used a cardboard box with
painted on bricks for the wall.i then cut 3 holes one on each side for childs arms, one on the top for thier head to fit through.i then made out of styrofoam a humpty dumpty hat and i painted thier face with face paint.i glued arms to hat. and legs to the box and i tied a tie on the childs neck.they can wear any clothing then under the box.the arm holes are optional.i do hope one of these ideas help.

why don't you dress him up like the mouse from Hickory Dickory Dock.

What about dressing him up like a farmer..........old macdonald had a farm. You could put him in bib overalls. All the other ideas sound great too.

There are many things you could do very easily. Little Jack Honer would be easy. You could have him wear his regual things and either cut a hole in a small purple balland put on his thumb,or draw a plum on his thumb. Dress him in all blue and he could Little boy Blue. Jack be nibble just make a candel stick and holder out of cardboard. He could be Pter Pumkin eater if you either drew a window on a basketball and put a girl face in it like the wife he put in a pumpkinshell. Or again get out some cardboard and draw your own and have him carry that. Good luck!!

He could be "Jack" from "Jack and Jill". All he needs to get is a pail for his water and a bandaid on his head from "breaking his crown".

Do you know any other mothers that are having a hard time figuring something out? If so why not team up and make 1 child a dish and 1 a spoon. (hey diddle diddle) Dress 1 in all grey and make a cardboard head piece so they look like a spoon. then the other just needs a large cardboard circle painted as a dish tied onto them. it's quick and simple and would help 2 people find costumes. Maybe your son's friend would like to do it so they can be a pair. Good luck.
