Nursery Furniture

Please help!!! Where can I find cute, well-made AND affordable nursery furniture. I'm having the hardest time. I just can't stomach spending a fortune on furniture that won't last beyond toddler years. I've tried the internet, but I'm leery of buying and then potentially not liking the furniture. I've tried Craigslist also but haven't found anything. Does anyone have any recommendations? Where did you find your nursery furniture?

What can I do next?

we bought our furniture at Burlington Coat Factory. We got a really reasonable price and the crib goes from crib, toddler bed, twin bed, full size bed/=.

HI,
I am not sure where you live, but you might want to try USA Baby in Frisco. The have a wonderful selection and just about all there furniture is the convertible stuff that turns into a full bed, so will last a lot of years. Do it soon though, sometimes ordering can take up to 12 weeks. Good Luck

I agree with the other post -- you don't have to get baby furniture for the nursery. Check the resale shops for a crib - they also carry other furniture. Once Upon a Child usually has a selection. I would recommend that you invest in a new crib mattress once you find a crib just for cleanliness and safety. In our nursery, we had a crib, chest of drawers, and a recliner. I recommend the recliner because it give you more arm room for nursing. It is also really comfortable on those nights that you are rocking a sick baby. I slept in our recliner several times with my son. We bought a new chest of drawers, but I've seen some nice, inexpensive ones at local thrift shops. I agree about the changing table. We didn't get one because our room was too small, but I haven't really missed not having one.

Congratulations!!

I got my nursery furniture from Ikea. It is good quality and wasn't too expensive. The crib converts to a toddler bed. You have to put your furniture together yourself, but my husband said it wasn't too difficult.

We bought our crib and upholstered rocker/glider at Baby World. It's a small store by the Galleria(other side of the Tollway across from Great Indoors). We looked all over(Babies R Us, USA Baby, etc.) and Baby World had the best prices for the quality. Our daughter is 2 1/2 and she's still in her crib. The crib turns into a toddler bed when you take the side off of it which is how we currently have it. It was worth the money and I'll be able to use it for the next child. The chair, too. It's a nice, upholstered chair that I couldn't have lived without. I think it's something my daughter will be able to use in her big girl room, too.

Bed cost less than $400 and the rocker cost less than $400(both in the 350 range).

Good luck,
N.

We bought our crib at Wal-Mart, it was a convertible one. For our changing table we covered a planting bench we already had and bought a changing pad. The nice thing about it was that it was higher than regular changing tables, much easier on the backs! My point is, like others have said, you don't have to have "nursery furniture". When our son got a little bigger, we put a chest of drawers in his room that we already had, we've even moved that out now! Good luck!

we bought our baby's furniture at Ikea. It is good quality, and super reasonable. In fact they were discontinuing the line so we got a crib/converts to a toddler bed, dresser with a flip top changing table and a armour type piece for under $300. As for a glider i found a really good deal on one from Craigslist. It never hurts to go look at one off the list and if it isn't what you want you say thanks but no thanks. good luck!

You don't have to buy nursery furniture if you don't want to. I bought a low dresser with six drawers and just put my changing pad on top of that. This way I can use it later. I think changing tables are a waste of money. Half the time I change my son on the nearest couch or bed for convenience. For the crib, definitely look into the lifetime or 4-in-1 cribs. They become toddler beds, then a full size bed later. I bought mine at Walmart for $180. Target has some too. Also try the Baby Depot at Burlington. They're usually a lot cheaper than Babies R Us. For storage, get those cheap canvas organizers that hang in the closet or over a door. Or buy a nice bookshelf and use baskets or canvas bins to store items on the shelves. Oh and definitely look into a glider, they're really nice! They're worth the money and if you get a nice plain colored cushion then you can keep it in the living room and it won't look like it's just for a baby. Good luck finding furniture!
