Today i was sitting on the couch and something clear started pouring out of my vagina then stopped and did it again about six times and now i am having not severe pains in my back that comes and leaves and then comes back again..i am 8 months pregnant with my first child.was this a vaginal discharge or did my water just break

call you doctor if you haven't already and let him know. When my water broke, it was like dam giving way, puddles all over, so I don't think it's that, but something is clearly going on.
Your water has broke and you should call your doctor immediately. This is the same thing that happened to me with my first child and I was three weeks early.
Hopefully you have already called your doctor!
How is everything going? Congrats if you've had the baby! I see you posted this on 2/26. My water broke in a couple stages. It was in 2 or 3 spurts I think.
I'll never understand why people freak out when their water breaks. Calmly call your doctor, if you're birthing in a hospital, which I'm sure you've already done. Congrats if you've birthed already, but hopefully, labor wasn't imminent, and you're still pregnant :)
