Not Sure About Hospital Choice...

I have been going to Mesquite Community Hospital lately for emergency services. They don't seem so very busy and they are friendly for the most part. I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant and just got approved for medicaid. The doctor that I chose as my PCP is close to Baylor of Garland but I refuse to go to that hospital after a problem I had with them treating one of my twins. My mother HATES (yes that strongly) Mesquite Community because of something that happened to her over 10 years ago. Should I persue further treatment at Mesquite even if my PCP is near Baylor and even if my mom thinks Mesquite isn't worth a penny? Should I try to change my PCP to a doctor that is closer to a better hospital?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, it's still a work in progress, my decision that is.. I'm really afraid that if I go to a hospital, then they will want to give me an epidural and all the things that come along with it. I delivered my twins with Dinah Warinch, a midwife in Dallas. I haven't called her yet but I think she will be my final choice. She already knows my history and knows what my capabilities are. She will be least likely to force any kind of intervention on me. I notice that the opinions of MCH are very diverse, but that will probably be the same situation when it comes to any hospital. Thank you for all of the advice!

I know more than a few people who would rather die than get treatment at Mesquite Community. They punctured my nephews lung after he was born via c-section. He then had to be careflighted to Medical City in Dallas. I wouldnt reccomend anyone to go there. Can you choose Baylor of Dallas?

Try Baylor of Dallas. They have a Outpatient Clinic. Its worth looking into, and the trip. The clinic # is ###-###-####. I had both of my kids there, They are great. Good luck.

TRUST ME on this one. Go to Baylor Dallas. I just had a baby there and switched to that hospital after touring both hospitals in Mesquite and Baylor Dallas. The people are nicer and actually listen to mommy.
PLEASE Take the tours and check it out for yourself.
email me if you want to know more.

By the way Baylor is more family friendly. And who cares where your OB is located. It is all about YOU being comfortable.

Hi A.,

Just my personal opinion - you should pick the hospital YOU want to go with, not what your mother wants you to go with. You need to put yourself and your babies best interest first and foremost. I can understand not wanting to go to Garland because of something related to one of your twins. If you are 100% comfortable of delivering at Mesquite, then go for it. It's you and that baby they are taking care of, not your mom! If you're able to get a doctor and deliver at Mesquite, then do it. Where did you deliver your twins?

Just my opinion...

Mesquite Community Hospital was purchased by HMA several years ago and is not the same hospital it once was. HMA is a large corporation which owns over 50 hopsitals, all in non-urban areas. As a matter of fact, Health Grades, an independent firm which grades hospitals and physicians, just released their latest ratings. Of ALL the hospitals in the Metroplex, Mesquite Community, was the ONLY one to receive 5 out of 5 stars for maternity services. The ratings have to do with complication rates and are adjusted so that all hospital populations are being compared equally.

No, I do not work for them, however, my partner was part of the administration there until just last month. Even though she is no longer a part of the organization, the information is still worth sharing.

Dear A.,

I would suggest going where you are comfortable. As a nurse, seeing patients who are uncomfortable adds stress not only to them but the persons taking care of them. Your baby will fill that stress if you are having problems with where you are and who is taking care of you..
