Not Gaining Any Weight During My 3Rd Trimester

Hello, I am 32 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I went to the doctor yesterday (I am now going every 2wks) and I have been at the same weight for my last 3 appointments. I asked the doctor if that was OK and she just said that they would monitor it for the next few appointments. With my previous 2 kids, I usually gained the most weight at the end. So far I have gained about 18lbs. She did say I was measuring OK but they wouldn't do another ultra sound unless they could see that there was a problem. She said since my measurements were OK and if eating well enough and not throwing up, there shouldn't be a problem but this doesn't seem normal to me. I feel like I'm getting bigger (even though people always tell me I'm not very big to be due in 2mths.
Has anyone else not gained weight? I have been eating 3 meals a day plus 1 or 2 snacks.

What can I do next?

I was the same way with my #3 only gained about 3 lbs the last trimester but the baby was absolutely fine. Actually had him at 36 weeks weighing in at 8lbs 13 oz. As long as you are eating healthy and feeling o.k. don't worry those little ones like to keep us guessing.

With my pregnancy, I didn't really gain any weight. I am overweight to begin with and what happened while I was pregnant was that I was watching what I was eating...for salt content...calorie restriction and eventually gestational diabetes...carb intake. I was technically losing weight and then gaining it back...but what I gained back was in baby not me. My doctor was completely fine with this.

I only gained FIVE pounds during my entire pregnancy. My doctors were not concerned at all with this. I was about 20lbs over weight when I got pregnant, and actually ended weighing LESS after my daughter was born then when I got pregnant! She was perfectely healthy born at 6lbs 6oz. That was 9 months ago - she is now off the charts for height (taller than 75% off all 1 year olds). If the docotrs are okay with it - try not to worry. I know it's hard, but as long as your baby is growing and developing - everything is okay.

i am in a similar situation...this is my 2nd pregnancy & i am almost 30 weeks. last pregnancy, i gained 50 pounds (i was very small to start out with), lost all but 5 pounds after the pregnancy & now i have only gained about 19 pounds & it seems to be mostly baby (well, my bottom is a bit larger, of course!). i have been very nauseous still, with vomiting at least once a week. i don't feel like eating b/c food makes me even more nauseous, but i still do (i want a healthy baby!). at my last appointment, i had only gained 2 pounds in almost 6 weeks. the OB wasn't concerned at all, as long as i wasn't losing weight. but i still think something is off. i am measuring smaller, also, which isn't normal for me.
i don't think my response is going to help you, except to say that this is also happening to me & the OB said it was okay... so maybe it is? i don't know! i hope it helps to know others are in the same situation...

Hi A.,

Its been a while, but I believe in the last weeks of my pregnancy I actually lost weight and the doctor back then said it was normal; however, each case is different and you should ask your doctor if you have concerns. Just remember that all pregnancies and babies, even among sibilings, are different.

Good luck and congratulations!

I did the same thing in my first pregnancy. I couldn't eat much because my son was filling up my abdomen so much I didn't have room - if I ate much at all I would just throw-up. My son was very healthy and 8lbs 12.8 oz. I think my total weight gain was 18 lbs. I actually gained 20 then lost 2 near the end. If your doctor's not worried then don't worry - as much as we think we are in control - we are not!

You don't mention it, but were you a shade heavy before? My girlfriend did the same thing, she was rather large to begin with and they finally figured out that she was just loosing the weight herself and the bady was gaining the same amount. She lost a total of about 40 pounds during her pregnancy. The baby did fine and she looked really pretty good when she delivered.

Not to worry, I gained 20 pounds with my 3rd child and there were no problems she weighed 5 pounds 15 ounces when she was born and very healthy. What had happened was actually nice for me since baby weight was hard for me to lose was she was growing but i was losing and it averaged out and kept my weight at a constant number, so in the end i was able to trim down a little faster, and had a healthy baby girl. The best of both worlds.

Every pregnancy is different. Just keep checking with your doctor. With my fist pregnancy I wieghed 202 lbs at my first appointment and 201 lbs the day I delivered. I was active active and walked about a mile every day. I had problems with gestational diabetes and managed it with exercize and monitoring my sugar levels but never had to use insulin. With my second child I only gained 9lbs through out the pregnancy. As long as the baby in continuing to grow and the doctor monitors its progress you should be fine. Also when I first met with the nutritionist she put me on a diet that was too restrictive. The doctor upped my caloric limits. If you are a little overweight, I know alot of heavier woman that did loose weight during their pregnancy. Good luck.
