Does anyone have their nose pierced, I would like to hear your thoughts, I am considering getting mine done, I would like to wear a very small diamond type of stud. How did your family and friends react, what is your age and how is it to take care of etc. Also how are you accepted in your place of work. Thanks for any info you can share.

I got mine done when I was 16. The novelty wore off fast (after about a year or two), but I wore it for about 10 years and never had an issue with it. After I took it out however, the hole never completely healed and cannot be covered with make up, It is a permanent scar on my nose.
I had a lot of piercings (navel, several in my ears, tongue) and this one is the only one I regret, just because it left such a prominent (in my eyes at least) mark on my face.

I got my nose pierce when I was 22. That was about 10 years ago. My family and friends always knew it was coming, cuz I always talked about how I wanted one, from the time I was 18 :p My parents never, ever addressed it with me because it never came up when I was younger.

I am a very devout Catholic-Christian and all of my best friends are evangelical non-denominational Christians and they don't care :p They just think it's funny cuz I look all sweet and innocent, but the piercings make you think I'm not. I think the stigma attached to piercings is very much disappearing, tho, as they become more and more common, even among "alternative" Christians, or "relevant" (I hate that term) Christians.

In my place of work 10 years ago, they told me I'd have to take it out for work and put it back on afterward (I worked at a Motherhood Maternity retail store in the mall). They said it would also be acceptable to wear one of those transparent, plastic nose studs that they've created for just these situations. It just depends on where you work, I imagine. If you're a public face, they'll prolly ask you not to wear it during work, but if you're in a casual, cubicle setting, I can't see why they'd frown on it.

Check on your work's policies and dress code so you can be prepared to use a spacer if/when you need to.

Family and friends should love you. Period. I don't have my nose pierced but I have lots of tattoos. My family flipped out but thats because they're all ridiculously southern baptist and can't seem to get over appearances (in any situation)

I'm a devout protestant and so is my husband. We're both tattooed and see nothing wrong with it, and the people who know and love you won't either.

Go for it! I've always thought it would look cute but haven't done it yet.

It's a purely subjective thing, I know, but I've always thought facial piercings, including nose piercings, are ugly. To me, a diamond stud in your nose makes you look like you have a huge whitehead there.

As for work, remember that they're hiring you to do a job and present their image to the world. Not to display your own personal style. Expect to remove your nose ring while working if you are in a professional setting or are interacting face-to-face with customers or clients. Don't be offended if you're asked to do this.

I do wonder how you blow you nose while wearing a nose stud.

I know nothing about nose piercing-only have ears pierced. But as far as respect it should not matter. My oldest son started dating a girl who is 4 years older than him a year ago....he had been dating her for a couple months when we were finally going to meet her. As they were in route he texts me her age, she has her lip pierced, some purple in her hair and tattoos. If you knew my son it pretty much floored me at the time. But we now know her and love her-what one person likes another one might not want for themselves but it shouldnt change their feelings toward you!

I say go for it. If you decide you don't like it, take it out. The hole will close and life will go on. You only have to please yourself not other people, do what makes you happy. Good luck.

I am doing it! Since I was 10 and got my ears pierced the first time I have wanted my nose pierced. Obviously, my parents wouldn’t let me. Then in my 20's I didn’t do it because of work. In my 30's I was too busy being a mom. Now I’m 40 and I’m ready. I called around a few weeks ago and now I just need to decide where to go.

Who cares what other people think! Your appearance has nothing to do with who you are as a person!

I wish I knew about the clear spacers when I had to take my piercing out for work! I got it done when I was in college, and LOVED it. It was my favorite piercing. I think you will have to start with a loop before a stud (that was so you can move the loop around the hole to keep it clean and so the piercing won't grow around the stud). Who knows - things might have changed. Go for it! Mine is closed up, and you can see a tiny mark where it used to be. I would totally do it again if I wasn't in a corporate office. I lived in CA when I got it pireced, and then moved to TX - more conservative (blah!).
My parents, while they didn't freak or get angry - they were more like - what's that in your nose?!? And then we just went to dinner. The tounge piercing (also closed up!) wasn't a big deal, either.
Just be sure to find a referred tattoo/piercing studio!

My mom had it done at 45 (2x) and couldn't get it to heal either time, even with the proper cleaning and care. she said it hurt really bad (and she has a tatoo on her ankle to and said this was worse). she ended up taking it out and has a small scar on her nose, but can cover it with makeup (you cannot put put makeup aound the peircing). She was allowed to wear a sm stud at work in it however that vaires depending on you employer

Best Wishes

Hi S.! I have had a diamond stud in my nose for 10 years. I love it and get compliments on it all the time. OH, and I am 31 now.
My job didn't have any problem with it. It's super tiny and gives off a bit of sparkle. I haven't had an booger comments, after all, boogers don't usually sparkle, :) .

Just a funny note.......an elderly lady at my church HATES my nose ring and once told me it looked like a hickey. I am still trying to wrap my brain around that one! haha!

I don't have one, but I just want to let you know to be careful on the size you pick. When I was in college, my resident director had a very small gold stud in her nose and I (along with other students) always thought it looked like she had a booger on her nose. As for work, as a previous office manager, I would always think twice about a person with various piercings. I know I probably shouldn't, but I worked for lawyers and I always thought that eye, nose, tongue, etc. piercings didn't look professional. But if you think that your job will be okay with it, do it. If you want it get it. If your friends and family don't like it, and some of them won't, they will get over it.

I don't have my nose pierced but I do have my tongue, eyebrow and several 'non-traditional' ear piercings as well as a few others that aren't generally on display.
My family and friends don't seem to notice much, I guess they're just used to looking at me and no longer see the stuff in my face much in the way they don't notice my glasses much.
You'd take care of a nose piercing like you would any other piercing, generally when it's healing you clean it twice daily with a saline solution. Once it's healed then it's just kind of there, I rarely notice any of mine. (I have been told that it's a little more difficult to properly blow your nose when it's pierced but nothing too terrible.) You should talk to a reputable piercer in your area and he or she will be able to answer all your questions. Also visit http://www.bmezine.com/ for photos/info/stories etc.
As for your work, you'll have to find out what their policy is regarding facial jewelry. I have been very lucky in the job that I have now (a vet clinic) that I'm able to keep all my piercings in as well as dye my hair bright red. That hasn't always been the case and I'm very aware that the way that I choose to present myself often leads people to make assumptions. I often go out of my way to be nice simply to prove a point.

I have never gotten anything pierced other than my ears. I have always wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. Like the others said, you need to find out the policy at your place of work. You need to make sure having a nose ring is accepted. I am 32 now, with 3 children. I guess I am a bit more conservative these days (blah is more like it LOL). Have fun with it!

I just got mine done 1 month ago. I am 32. My old job would have required me to wear a clear spacer during my working hours, you will need to check with your job about whether they have a policy about facial piercings. It was not any more painful than getting your ears pieced, but it made my eyes water for a bit. It healed quickly and I now wear studs that are straight with a small ball on the end. They are super easy to take in and out, and I change mine to something different every day. Mine stays in place fine when I sleep so I do not worry about losing the studs at night, but if you do have problems with the straight ones slipping out while sleeping they sell screw in ones that hold in better. (I do not like these because they are more difficult to get in and out).

I pierced my nose when I was 25. It hurt a lot more than my navel or the 5 piercings in my ears. I wore it for awhile and had problems with the hole closing around the stud and then the little ball at the end of the nose ring would be impossible to pull out. It caused constant pain when messing with it or trying to change it (the inside of the nose is very sensative). I still kept it in until I got pregnant at 29. Then I just didn't feel like messing with it so I took it out. Now, I'm 32 and you can still see the hole where it was pierced (even though it is now closed)---makeup doesn't cover it up.

My employer didn't mind but I worked as a supervisor at an animal clinic in a very unique part of town (it wasn't unusual to have pink or purple hair).
