I just turned 30 years old, my husband and I have been married for 12 years we have 3 wonderful kids (11, 5, and 3) I am wanting to get my nose pierced in a celebration sort of thing. I don't know anything about them (except for the little research I did online). I don't know anyone who has one either. I just think they are adorable, and really want to get it done. I don't even know my question, but if any of you ladies have advice, I would appreciate it greatly.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

WOW, so fast, thanks for all the responses!!! I just wanted to add that yes, my husband knows and has encouraged me to get it done. He thinks it would look great. He'd probably go with me, he's my bestfriend.

On a much later note.........I've finally have my nose piercing!!!! I got it done yesterday, husband in tow...............He was super cute and excited for me, I on the other hand had let the anticipation get the better of me. I was so scared and nervous.....for what I have no idea...I think it was just psyching myself out. Anyhow, it was over in just a under a minute, and I have to say...the anticipation was far worse then what it actually ended up being.....hardly painful and quick and I LOVE IT!!! I feel like it was meant to be there all along!! Thanks to you all who gave advice....It was much appreciated....and actually helped make my decision to go through with it that much easier!! God Bless!!

I pierced my nose when I was 16 on a whim. I was travelling and planned on taking it out when I got back to my parents home. On that trip I met an elderly friend of my grandparents- he was a 6'4" 80 year ols English gentleman. After we visited he said "I do quite like this" and tapped the side of my freshly pierced nose (not recommended). He went on to say that in India it's very common and he "believed more western women should where it because it's very becoming." An unexpected comment from an otherwise conservative old guy.
14 years later, I'm still wearing ring in my nose.
Have fun and congrats on 12 years and 3 kids!
14 year later I still have it in.

I think that if it's what you want, then go for it. I had my nose pierced for a few years in my twenties, and I loved it. I wore a tiny diamond stud most of the time, but also had a very small sterling silver hoop that I wore sometimes, too. Almost 15 years later, the only person who can tell that I ever had my nose pierced is me, because the location of the former hole looks like a larger pore on the side of my nose. Nobody else would ever guess that I used to have my nose pierced. Life is too short to not do something this harmless. Have fun!

OMG. I got my nose pierced on my 30th birthday. I think I was going through some sort of midlife crisis. LOL It was great, except that they hit some vascularity and I gushed blood everywhere. It never healed right, so after a few weeks, I took it out. I love the way it looked....and it made me feel a little edgy, rather than a boring mom. I was feeling stuck in my life at the time.

I had one!! It was very cute and would love to get it done again...mine grew up while I was in my first c-section...make sure when you get it done to clean it with dial soap a few times a day and rotate the piercing a few times a day...just like with your ears. Most of all..have fun!! You only live once!!

Go you! I just got my helia peirced. My advice would be to not mess with it. Resist the urge to fiddle with it! :) Also, I looooove H2Ocean. They have a spray that is basically saline solution with some enzymes to help the piercing heal.

Make sure whoever does your piercing is a member of the Association of Professional Piercers. It's a professional organization that has very high standards that members have to adhere to.

I had my nose pierced for 6 years before I took it out because my daughter kept pinching my nose and it kept getting pulled. It really does not hurt at all to get it pierced. It does however, make your eyes water alot. Make sure to keep the site clean after getting it pierced and do not change the stud for a few months to allow it to heal. After it has healed and you can change the stud, you can either choose one that has a ball at the end to hold it inplace , or you can choose one that twists at the end. I always prefered the ones that twisted. The other kind were painful to take out if you had to change it or take it out because the skin would close in around it. This is, of course, your personal choice and you will be able to choose which kind is the best for you. If you decide to remove it completally someday, there is very little scarring left. You will have a little dip that looks like an enlarged pore. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

I had mine done in college and I loved it. I would recommend the slightly more painful but less obvious choice of a needle piercing. If you let them use a gun you have to have this giant stud in there for a few weeks and it's really, really hard to change it out and put in a new ring. If you want a stud, get a really small one, and if you get a ring make sure it's small guage and a small hoop so it's almost flush to the nose but has enough room that you can twist it around to keep it from getting stuck. Just know that if you take it out, the cartilage is going to heal so fast that you won't be able to put it back in. But the scar left from mine is so tiny you can't even see it so if you decide to take it out you won't ever know you had it. Just make sure you go to a clean, well known place. I don't know any places around where you are but ask around or look for reviews online because some places are not good!

I had my nose pierced with a very small diamond stud when I was 17...I thought it was adorable too! I am not sure about those giant "plugs" all the kids are sporting these days, those are not my style BUT...to each is own!

I eventually got tired of mine and took it out and the hole (very tiny to start with) just closed up and you can't even tell I ever had one anymore....so I say: Do what you want to girl--You only live once!

Just make sure your husband (assuming you have one) also thinks they are adorable before you do it. Not to offend, but to me they look like blemishes, so just make sure you aren't making yourself less attractive to him.

I had mine pierced at 17 and loved it! I also have three tattoos; one on my right foot, one on the left, one on my hip and let me tell you; the nose hurt worse than that! I had such a horrible headache the rest of the day. But after that everything was fine :) I say go for it! Idk if anyone else had this problem, but anytime I would try and change the studs it would almost immediately close up (I waited the recommended time to change it, etc)

Hi D.,
I had my nose pierced for many years. I took it out recently because I just felt like I was over it. It does not hurt, just make sure you get it done at a clean, professional shop. They should use a needle, not a gun. Also, be prepared to have a noticable scar on your nose if you ever decide not to wear it anymore.

Hi, I have a pierced nose and I absolutely love it...I am 56 mom of 2 and pierced my nose when I turned 50... I did all the things I wanted to do when I was in my teens but was smart enough to not....Now at 50 who cares...I look fabulouse, feel fabulous so why not.....Just make sure you go to a reputable place to have it done. It is painless, it happens so fast....Good luck and enjoy and don't allow others to influence your decision....Its your life, and live it like you want too....

Go for it!!!! Check with your hubby, I think that's good advice. As far as what the kids think - who cares!!! I have a tatoo and obviously if my kids wanted one, I'd say no way, they have to wait til there an adult just like I did. I'm turning 30 in May and I'm thinking of getting another tatoo to celebrate!!!!!!!!

Hi D.,

Nose rings are super cute! And being 30, you're not making some crazy, teenage-hormone induced decision. I say go ahead! And I think you'll love it.

I had mine done quite a few years ago, and don't wear it too much anymore, but the hole is still open (and barely noticable if that's a worry of yours ..) My favorite jewelry to wear was a teeny tiny little silver stud.

Hey! You're in a great marriage, have great kids, are a beautiful woman! Celebrate it!! I got a tattoo to celebrate my 33 year (3 stars on my left shoulder .. a large one for my husband, a medium sized one for me, the smallest for my son.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm not sure if you have a career outside of the home, but that would be a consideration. The advantage is that if you decide it is an issue, you can take it out.

I am a Human Resources Director, and body piercings definitely impact the interview. Unless you're applying at a surf shop.

If you were meant to have a hole in the side of your nose. You would have been born with it. Besides it is very unsanitary.

Just be careful with what earring you get. My old Resident Director in college had a small gold stud in her nose and it looked like she had a berger on her nose all the time.

be careful of the size stud you get, I had mine done when I was 18 and got one a little to big and it kept getting caught on my rings and every time I would pull it half way out of my nose and that hurt a lot. Soon it became infected even though I cleaned it and turned it everyday. My nose piercing hurt worse then all three tattoos I have. I have one on my right shoulder, right shoulder blade, and left shoulder. I would much rather get another tattoo then a piercing. but good luck and just make sure to keep it clean. :)

I got mine done b/c I always liked them as well and after I was out of the Army and done nursing my son, I figured "mom" deserved" something!! So if you like it and your husband likes it as well, then go for it. I didnt think it was painful (it made my eyes water like I was hit in the nose for a second) and then keeping it clean was easy for the week or so they say. I still have my original nose ring in, some people change them out and stuff like that but I dont know how to do that. But go for it, I love it and its small and most people dont even see it. Its classy and still respectable for a mom to have, its funny after I got mine done, I started seeing sooooo many more women with them as well.
Go for it!!! Good luck!!
