Nose Bleeds - Dallas, TX

I was just wondering if anybody had trouble with nose bleeds during pregnancy. I started them at 29 weeks; I am at 31 weeks and they haven't gone away. They make me nervous (I get anxious easily) and just wanted to make sure this is normal and okay. I appreciate any help.

What can I do next?

That is very normal! I am 30 weeks and I have them all the time. If they make you lightheaded, call your dr. immediately. Otherwise, it is just something that happens.

Congratulations!

This is a trick to avoid them...this might soung gross but when I was 14 years old, after getting them ALL the time all my life my doctor recommended taking a q-tip, dipping it in vaseline and lining the inside of your nose in the am and pm. Well needless to say I haven't gotten one since and I am 28!! I can tell when my nose gets dry to start the vaseline trick again but I don't have to do it very often now. Weird things happen to your body when you pregnant and I guess this is just another to add to the list!! Good luck!! Congrats on the pregnancy too!!

they are normal your body is producing 45% more blood right now and your nose is EASY to bleed at this time.

I have had nosebleeds off and on all my life and it wasn't until I worked in a hospital doing medical transcription that I came across a report for a woman who had problems with nosebleeds and an ENT physician suggested she use Eucerin cream in her nose to moisturize occasionally. If she had a nosebleed that lasted longer than 5 or 10 minutes she should use Aferin spray (one or two sqirts) to stop the bleeding. I used this advice myself and it really did the trick. I even used the Afrin when I was pregnant recently but you should check with your doctor to be sure it is okay for you. I also use saline drops like ocean spray to keep my nose moist or you can try using a humidifier. This really helped both myself and my husband during the dry winter we had. Good Luck.

I'm 32 weeks and I have been having them throughout the pregnancy. I set up a humidifier in my room at night and that helped, but they are still there. I've been really congested too throughout the pregnancy, so blowing my nose all the time doesn't help either! :) You are definitely not alone on this one! :) Take care

I got them with all 4 of my kiddos. They were more of a nuisance than anything. My OB said they were normal as all blood vessels swell during pregnancy- including those in the nose. These weather shifts don't help much!

If you are really concerned give your OB a call in the AM

Take Care!

I had nose bleeds during my entire pregnancy, they went away after I had my son. The only time you need to worry is if they don't stop with in about 10 - 15 minutes (or at least slow down by then).
