Nonstop Headache

Hello All,
I am getting a little worried, I have had a nonstop pounding headache in the right side of my head for about a week now. It hurts in the right side of my neck and also a little bit in my back, but just on the right side. I am 15 weeks pregnant and tylenol does nothing. I got rear ended about a month ago, but it wasnt that serious. My doctor said it might have something to do with that. I dont know, its making me nervous. I dont have any vision problems. I hope its nothing serious. It hurts! Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Go to a chiropractor or to an osteopathic doctor. Something's out of whack because of the car accident, and the headache is just the most obvious symptom you're having. Other problems can develop if you don't get a manipulation to put things back where they belong. The first adjustment I ever had was when I was pregnant the first time and having sciatic nerve pain. I couldn't believe how much better I felt after a simple adjustment!

Being dehydrated can bring on headaches. I tend to get them when the weather makes 30 degree jumps (up or down) - so spring and fall can sometimes be a bit of a problem. I know nothing about chiropractors so I can't say anything for or against them. I sometimes put a heating pad on my head (easy to do at home, but you can't do it at work). Does a hot steamy shower help at all (sinuses)? A pain running down the side of your neck makes me think it could be something muscular. Are there any swollen glands? Any ear infection? Keep talking with your doctor about it.

Please see a chiropractor. I've been in accidents. I know what they can do. I am both a licensed massage therapist and an integration specialist. I specialize in muscle reactivation, brain integration, and kinesiology. Your symptoms are not unusual, but if not treated properly, they can affect patterns of muscle function and nerve conduction the rest of your life.

Please understand that there is a reason that women are far more vulnerable to these types of problems if they are in an accident while pregnant. When pregnant, a woman body produces hormones that encourage the ligaments that connect your bones to soften. This is to allow the body to adjust to the growing fetus and to giving birth. But, that also means the the ligaments between the bones of the spinal column are softer and not as able to keep the bones in alignment when a whiplash is experienced. Please look for a very good chiropractor. Like any other profession, some are much better than others. Although not exactly in your neighborhood, I could refer you to an excellent chiropractor in Crestwood, MO. His name is Louis Perretta. If you don't want to drive that far, you could call his office to see if he could recommend someone closer to you.

Something women really need to understand is that these ligaments begin to harden again after you give birth. If your posture is bad or you have a problem like you described after the ligaments harden, it will be far more difficult for a chiropractor to help you. It is so important for women to get chiropractic care for the first few months following delivery.

I had severe scoliosis and terrible back and hip pain as an older teen and young adult. I had my son at the age of 28 and saw a chiropractor regularly for a full year after he was born. My x-rays show a straight spinal column that I have enjoyed for 24 years now. Before I was pregnant, the chiropractic adjustments helped, but they couldn't completely fix the problem because I was 19 year old before I first saw a chiropractor. I wish chiropractors would make public service announcements about this. It is so important to the health and well being of mothers. Healthier and happier mothers are better mothers. I hope we mothers can spread the word and make sure our children know this. I know when my son is married, he will make sure his wife is taken care of this way.

So, please get the help you need for the headaches and as you go through pregnancy, delivery, and beyond. And please, help spread the word!

Check your blood pressure. If thats good try a chiropractor. Maybe that little fender bender threw your neck off a bit. Hope you feel better!

Very common for this!!!!! Don't be worried at all....Mine used to get so bad I would get nauseated...and of course there are no safe meds to take...I would get 100% relief when I would get a pregnancy massage and chiro treatment/adjustment. Sometimes I would have to go 2-3 times but so worth it and you get a little pampering.

Headaches are so frustrating!
You also might check with your dentist.
I had a hedache for almost a year. Nothing helped. Then at a routine dental cleaning, my dentist realized a wisdom tooth (that had not come through the gums) was putting enough pressure on my teeth to shift them. Once the tooth was out the headache was gone! What relief!
Good Luck!

Maybe try a visit to the chiropracter? Maybe a sinus infection? Have you been using a heating pad and an ice pack on your neck?
Headaches are just the most miserable thing. I think I'd try getting an adjustment from a recommended chiro or a pro massage and see if that helps.
