Non-shower Ideas for Celebrating Baby #2 - Plainfield,IL

I'd like to celebrate the birth of my second daughter in about a month with a small gathering of some girlfriends. Since it's another girl, I really don't need nor want a traditional baby shower. So I'd rather just do something with the ladies, but at 37 weeks, nothing too physical. Any ideas? Did anyone else have a non-shower shower?

If there are location specific ideas, I live in Plainfield, IL - so Naperville would be a good place.

Thanks!

I have heard of close friends throwing a "sprinkle" for 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc babies. Just a fun get together, maybe a brunch or cake and punch and guests are invited to bring toiletries like baby wipes, diapers, baby lotion, baby bath. Kind of a fun way to celebrate a new baby = )

I have had two sisters with this problem. With one we got messages and had a movie night. With the other one we all got pedicures and had ice cream. Personally I liked the pedicures on my budget much better. We went to a school for it so they only charged us 15 bucks a piece. It was nice to pamper them and let them know we cared. We all did end up bring presents anyways, but it was more stuff for her rather than for the baby. Little things like lotion, a heating pad, and coupons for watching her older one. It was sweet.

We always just go out to a nice dinner with just the mommies when a 2nd or 3rd is on the way. All the other mommies treat the Mommy we are celebrating. At that pregnant, all I ever wanted was some good food, a break from the 1st kid and some girl time.

For my 2nd child, I did not have a giant baby shower like I had with my 1st child. For my 2nd child, it was both mothers, myself, my sisters, my SIL, and a close Aunt. We went out to a local restaurant and had brunch and a cake. Presents were not required. We were just getting together to celebrate my new bundle. Have fun!!

I asked for a small lunch with my two best friends and our mom's (we get together once a year). I didn't want another shower either and I am looking forward to a relaxing lunch with friends and not having to deal with another big shower. I like the pedicure suggestion too, someone else said.

I think you and the girls should have a pampering day :)

My sis just did a brunch with her close friends for baby #2. They went to a fun little cafe' type place. They just had good food and visited.

If I were you, I'd call all my friends and ask if you can have a girls' lunch since you're going to be having the baby soon after and know things will be crazy for awhile, plus you want to celebrate the birth coming up with your closest friends.

Maybe a Spa day or nice Lunch, is there a live show or concert in your area?
Me and my girls do the showers for each child. Pot Luck style event in the Mom to be's home. Music and photos :) Not an all out shower but we do really get together. And we all love to shop for baby so gIfts are just plain fun for everyone.

Have a brunch or better yet, wait until the baby is born and have a "sip-n-see" so friends can drop by at a designated time and see the baby, celebrate, etc.

How about just a fun pot luck. Think of a theme and everybody just come for a nice visit.. Mexican food with Margaritas, or Sangria. BBQ with rum and cokes..Italian food with good red wine..
