Nike "Gold Diggin' Shirt

Oh, boy. Another case of too much political correctness! Nike came out with a new shirt for yes, women only, that says "Gold Diggin," and everyone's crying sexist. The shirt of course pays homage to the Olympics, blah, blah, blah.

I think it's kind of funny and only sexist if someone forces you to wear it.

That's just my view.

Anyone? Someone?

What can I do next?

Eh- I wouldn't buy it...but it doesn't "offend" me per say- but in Ocean City, Md last week I saw 2 specific shirts that just got my blood boiling

A girl about 14-15 yrs old WITH her mama mind you, wearing a shirt that said "party with sluts."

A girl about 16 with a big pregnant belly that said-" Yes, I'm knocked up.

Seriously? When did it become a 'cool' thing to be called a slut?

If you don't like it... don't buy it! Simple as that! lol.

Personally, I'm MUCH more offended by the naked woman T-shirts I see "men" wearing... Or the toddler or child sized pants that say 'juicy' across the butt... Or, my 'favorite' so far... "Anal... All girls like it in the a$$... Some just don't know it yet." (Saw that one at the mall the other day... classy...)

I don't really care too much what other people wear. It's their right to wear what they want, just like it's my right to think they are just flat out dumb.

Sounds clever to me! I appreciate wordplay, double meanings, pushing the envelope and all that.

I was *just* feeling irate over this... people are WAY too sensitive. I thought it was a nice play on words in light of the Olympics and not at all offensive.

I agree with you. Some people might take it to be sexist but I would argue that's only if you were forced to wear it. If someone chose to wear it then I would assume they were making a sarcastic statement, which would be funny to me.

Also - I vaguely remember from my jr high volleyball days that "diggin" means getting under the ball. You couldn't be in a volleyball match without hearing "dig it " every 5 seconds from team members. Maybe Nike was targeting them?

Regardless.....people have to much time to be offended by this stuff meanwhile women get beaten, have no healthcare for their children, no running water, etc out there. Look at those poor Saudi Olympians. How about we (myself included) get offended about that?

Lol. When I read your title (not having heard of this previously) my first thought went to a kids' shirt about picking your nose..... I knew that couldn't be right... but it still made me smile.

As for the whole thing with the shirt, no one is MAKING you buy it. If you don't like it, don't give them your money. Problem solved.

If people want to be offended, they'll always find a way to do so. I think they need to take the stick out of their booties, personally. Don't like it? Don't buy it. End of story. Time to move on!!

I think it's a pretty shirt; wish I had the cute little shape to wear it. That's what I'm pissed off about!!! lol!!!

Think I'll go out today and buy one for my daughter!! She'd look cute in it!!

But yep, I think this world has gone nuts with being so sensitive!!! There are bigger things to worry about!!

Oh, I totally agree with you. If someone doesn't want it, DON'T buy it!!

It was a play on words, which most people are too dense to understand. Whoosh...goes right over their little heads.

I think it's hilarious, but I do think they should've made one for men too. They can be gold diggers as well. Ever heard of a "cougar" and her cub - example, JLo and her boy toy. hahaha. And Usain Bolt would probably love one!

It's offensive. They have every right to try to sell it but I can't believe today's modern woman would have any interest in buying it.

I agree with "Mommyloveskids." You really can't take anyone wearing that shirt seriously. If they buy it, it would probably be for a joke. I know my hubby would buy it, if it came in mens sizes. Also there's a difference between "digging for gold" and a "gold digger." "digging for gold" can also mean you're looking for ways/opportunities to make money especially when you're looking for antiques at yard sales. My hubby and I frequently "dig for gold." Also I think we have to remember that a lot of these clothes are made in China, where they don't know American Slang.

It doesn't offend me. It's tacky, so I wouldn't wear it, but I don't feel like it makes a statement about all women. A woman that wears it would be choosing to make a statement about herself, which is her prerogative.
