I am only 28, I have horrible night sweats. I go to bed freezing cold, and I am cold most the night, but wake up to a wet t shirt, and pants most nights of the week. Could ut really be menapause? Stupid I know, but does anyone know what else it could be?

What can I do next?

I would recommend that you go to the doctor. I don't want to scare you but I know that night sweats are a common symptom of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I am not saying that this is what it is by any means but I wouldn't want you to overlook this. Best of luck.

Frustrating! Could be many things...I'd have to ask what you are eating before you go to bed. Blood sugar spikes will act that way too.

L. I am older by a few years than you but I was expereincing the night sweats some moodiness and some other weird things like a skin irritation and this is embarassing but over active hemroids, I was concerned it might be early menapause. I went to my OB with a monthly log of my cycle and how I was feeling and what was happening each day. He definately thought it could be hormonal cuz it would happen at the same time every month. Instead of a hormone, he put me on Loestra (Pill) which has helped to balance me out in several ways including elliminating the night sweats, the skin irritation and some of the other things. See if you can log your self. Based on my cycle things would happen very consistantly. Crazy to me that it worked.

I would get your thyroid checked. This causes your body temperature to fluctuate. I have a borderline low Thyroid and I was having the same issues. I would make an appointment with your doctor and write down any and all symptoms you are experiencing.

I sometimes sweat at night if I am too cold. Sounds weird, I know. Maybe you could also try switching you're ensemble to a lightweight long sleeve t-shirt and shorts instead of pants.

You need to call your obgyn immediately.there are many things this could be some not so bad and some very
serious. Call and go in as an emergency patient do not take a date that is in a few weeks ..... If you can not see your main doc go in and at least get tests going with their partner. Good luck

Both my daughter and I went through menopause starting in our late 30's but I'd have it checked out in case it's a symptom of something serious. Are you on any new medications that could cause it? You might try one of the natural soy remedies for hot flashes.

I know this is a random question but did you have an IUD put in at anytime? I had one inserted in September and have had crazy night sweats from time to time. It's listed in the side effects, I know a friend of mine who has the same problem. I wouldn't worry about it being menapause at your age but if you're worried call the dr.

Hi there

Get your blood sugar and thyroid checked. I have hypoglycemia and I have the same thing happen to me. I also thought I was going through early menopause when it first started happening.

Good luck!

First off~ do not panic (after reading the previous post)...

I also go to bed cold, dress in a t-shirt and flannel pants and wake up sweaty. However, I also have a bunch of bed layers and I burrito and cover my head~ :)

I have found when I am stressed out of my mind (as I am this week over some things with my son's school)... I wake up sweaty. I also wake up that way when I am fighting a bug/ virus. (which can be for a few days).

Let me also mention that I use a spare heat pad (for a massage table) on my side of the bed and I do not always sweat with that when it is on, either. It is only from stress or fighting a bug. Sometimes I know I am warm, and shut it off, and still wake up soaked~ (but I use this as I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis and the heat helps my joints by helping to eliminate stiffness.).

If you are overly concerned and this has carried on for over a week~ check in with your doctor. Chances are it could be stress or diet. Sometimes even certain foods we eat can cause us to detox that way. (At least it does for me.).

Just remain calm and try not to worry to much. :)

EDIT: OH~ and make sure that you counteract this by drinking more water to rehydrate yourself. I find this to be a cause of some of my migraines when I do not sufficiently replenish my water intake (I always have a big glass of water by my side all day and on my night stand for when I wake up in the night time.)

Hi L. - I think you should go to the doctor and tell him or her about the night sweats. Do you have any other symptoms. It could be a hormone imbalance but I think night sweats can also indicate other conditions. Tell your doctor to investigate fully - good luck - Alison

It's more likely that your blood sugar is dropping very low during the night. You should go talk to your Dr. and ask about being screened for diabetes.

Could your side of the bed be over the heater vent? :-)

Or maybe hubby throws his covers onto you in the middle of the night...

Or you could just be having dreams that work you up, but when you wake up you don't remember having them at all...

Has this always happened? My hubby's temp runs hot while he's sleeping and he usually only has a sheet on... But I like to be toasty and am happy to use 2 comforters in the winter... I am not usually cold and he says I'm hotter than him but its how I sleep the best (I think it has to do with the weight and cozy feeling) You may just need a thinnger blanket.

Yes, there could be a medical issue... But before jumping to the worst case scenario (which MANY people do) look around as see if there could be a simple cause. If it does worry you, then go see the dr and ask them what they think. If you hit your toe and it hurts it just means you stubbed it... Not that it automatically needs to be amputated...

Please make an appointment to see your doctor immediately!!!!!

Night sweats can be from a lot of different things.....hormonal disorders, cancer, etc.

In June, 2008, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma (cancer). I was 2 days shy of my 33rd birthday and never could have imagined it could happen so young. I didn't have traditional night sweats. My fatigue and weight loss were easily explained by just having a baby.

I don't want to panic you, but it is something you should have your doctor look at immediately to rule things out and find out what the root cause is.

I hope it's nothing serious, but please see your doctor to see what they think.

Hello L., You need to let your doctor know about this. Yes it can be a chemical imbalance. Not just ovarian, but the thyroid and pituitary gland could also cause these symptoms. Good luck.

When you do see your doctor, ask them to test to TSH levels. It sounds like you could have a hyperactive thyroid.

L.; it could be you are just really hot during the night does not mean you are in menopause, especially so young, drs may call it pre menopause but usually not that young, didyou start your period really early? but i would try to put less covers on during the night, do you have cotton sheets, they keep you cool as well as warm, turn the temperature down a bit at night, i dont know, hahaha just enjoy life and have a good day, D. s

I had nightsweats for a long time after all of my deliveries ~ my OB said it was just hormonal and didn't give me a timeframe as to when it could end. Maybe check with your family doc or OB/Gyn?
Nightsweats are so annoying, aren't they? Ugh.

SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR DOCTOR ASAP!!!! Have your thyroid checked. It sounds like your hormones are out of whack. Hopefully, that's all it is. It could be something more serious. Don't fool around with this. Just go. Now. Good luck. I hope everything turns out ok.
