Night Diapers

The best tip I ever got for enhancing the absorbency of a diaper was from a registered nurse when my son was in the hospital last summer. Put a super-absorbency pantyliner inside your baby's diaper.

If your little one sleeps on his stomach, place the liner horizontally just below the belly button (I also used ultra-thins for this so he wouldn't be uncomfortable), if he sleeps on his back, orient it long-ways, just the way you would for yourself.

We love Pampers! We used Swaddlers and now use Cruisers and they are great. We tried Huggies and we did not like them at all. My son still nurses a few times at night and wakes up most mornings without any leaks. There have been a few times we had a leak, but I think that will happen with any brand. Good luck! K.

My son is now 18 months old, and has been through phases when he would leak through his diapers. I did the huggies overnights and they didn't always work for me either.
Then I tried Bum Genius cloth diapers. I put both inserts in over night and have rarely had a problem with them.

Our daughter sleeps through the night and never soaks through her diaper. We use Seventh Generation diapers, and she wears a size 3. They are super absorbent and also better for the earth and baby's skin (chlorine-free). If you order them online from diapers.com they are pretty affordable. I find that if I use any other brand (target brand, huggies, pampers...) that I use twice as many diapers each day! My nanny even commented that it was weird that my daughter doesn't use more diapers, but it's just that these work so well.
I will add, though, that we did have a huge problem when our son was a baby with soaking through diapers constantly, day or night. We didn't use Seventh Generation on him, though. But I think with boys it's just more of a problem.

I used diaper doublers. I was only able to find them at Toys R Us and even then, they only stocked a couple of packages at a time. Good Luck!

I have two boys who are piddle monsters. Since the company that makes Diaper doublers discontinued the product, I have begun double diapering my one year old at night with pampers for the main diaper and a cheapie brand for the outer diaper. It makes a huge difference. I tried just putting him in a night time diaper but he just peed through those, too.

I have always thought Pampers were the best, but also liked LUVS, because they seemed a bit bigger and they were a little cheaper. Good absorbancy with both.

Also, they have liners for the beds mattresses (these are a must in our house)...we have them on both our boys beds, just incase :)

We tried several brands and generic at the beginning and they all leaked. Then we switched to Pampers (swaddlers then cruisers) and they were the only ones that worked. He still wears them with no leaks.

I have used the Huggies Overnites and never had a problem with both my kids. Babies R Us carries SIZE 3 :)
Also, I use diaper doublers (like a pad you add to the diaper) those worked too, but they were hard to find!

S., When my boys were babies I used to buy doublers. I think they stll have them. They are like pads you put in the babies diapers to absorb the extra wettness at night time. They worked pretty good. I used to buy them at Jewel. Good Luck!!

Double diaper your son with a less expensive diaper over his original diaper.

My daughter wears mostly cloth (BumGenius are our fav,) but she would even soak through those for overnight. The only thing that worked for us was Huggies Overnites, but I know they come in a size 3, because that's what we used. They're just tough to find. I know Babies r Us carries them, or you can find them online. Good luck!

We use aldi diapers a size up from what they would recommend. Only 5.99 a pack (I think)

You might wish to try Pampers Baby Dry in a size bigger than your son is wearing.

I saw that some of the responses mentioned cloth diapers, so here's a suggestion for nighttime cloth use.

I use Fuzzi Bunz and add an extra hemp insert or two to the diaper and have no leak issues whatsoever at night. Hemp is very absorbent.

Tushies/Tender Care from Diaper.com or 365 diapers from Whole Foods. Same diapers packaged differently, EXCELLENT overnight diapers!!!!!!!!!

Pampers had just come out with overnight diapers called "Extra Protection" I have found these to be way better than the huggies overnights(which didnt work at all) although my son is still a little damp around his waist some mornings. I think I am going to give the maxi pad idea a try.

We had the same problem, so we started using those diaper doubler pads that others have mentioned here, but they discontinued them a few months ago and no one carries them anymore. So I had the idea that it's really the same thing as a maxi-pad (to soak up liquid), so we've been putting a Kotex regular pad (which is about the same size and thickness as the doublers were) in his diaper. We pull it up toward the front because a) he's a boy and b) he sleeps on his stomach a lot. It works great. P.S--My husband and I have sworn secrecy on ever telling our son he wore maxi pads! ;-)

I had good luck simply w/ Pamper's Baby Dry. Come in Szs up to 6 (35 lbs.)

Sorry if this is a repeat response, but we always just kept the same kind of diaper, but went one size up. It always seemed to work. Good Luck!

I have the same issue with my girls (now 1.5 year old twins.) We used cloth diapers and I have found that they even leak at night. So we use a disposable with a cloth over it and have never had a leak since. We use Bum Genius 3.0, you can get them at target. A little pricey upfront, but worth it.

Huggy Overnights are great.

Rubber prevents leakage and air. No air circulation causes rashes and bacteria building on his delicate skin. When you wake during the night to potty yourself, just change him; quietly and no lights on unless he sleeps with a night light....you don't want him to stay awake. If possible, don't wake him at all. Lots of babies sleep soundly enough to do this without waking.

Hi S.. I had the same problem. My son uses a size 3 Pampers or 7th Generation during the day but at night we go one size up. They aren't "Overnites", just the regular diapers. I have also added a cloth insert to the size 4 diaper and that ALWAYS works. However, you would need to go to a baby store that sells cloth inserts (or online). These are normally used in cloth pocket diapers but I like them to keep my son dry at night. Good luck!

Pampers are the best! I tried Huggies with my first and they always leaked. I know they are more expensive but they do hold a lot!! My daughter has woken up in the morning with some VERY full diapers and they did not leak through and I do not know how because there was a LOT of liquid in there!

huggies overnites do come in size 3. check around online. i think we order them from drugstore.com or diapers.com... can't remember.

Your son is still little when he is older you can put a pull-up over his diaper that worked for my Daughter, however while he is little I would put my maxi pads across the front and back of the diaper this way it would catch any urine leaking from the top (back or front) of the diaper.Also Pampers are the best. I tried all the others!

I use huggies overnites SIZE 3 which you can get from amazon.com and they work wonders.

huggies didnt work for my little one at all. so went went with pampers they work really well. for night time i use the pampers curisers they are a little more than just plan pampers but they hold more and you dont have to change everything when the little one wakes up. also it keeps there bottom pretty dry so less diaper rashes. well hope this helps

Hi-I use Huggies overnights for my son, but he wears Pampers during the day time. I just saw that Pampers is now making an Extra Protection diaper that I just bought. Maybe give those a try. I have also seen diaper liners, almost like pads, at Babies R Us. Good luck.

I also have two boys and I use Pampers with both of them. I use the cruisers for the 10 month old but for my 2 year old I use the Pampers baby dry at night, they seem to absorb more. We rarely have a leak issue. Oh - I typically buy a size over what they seemingly should be in. Good luck!

My apologies if this has already been said, but Huggies Overnights are my fave overnight diapers. They do come in Size 6. Some Targets carry them, but you can definitely get them at Walmart. My son is RARELY wet in the morning and I've been using the Huggies Overnights since he was just a few months (not 1.5 y/o). Good luck!

put a heavy duty feminine pad in the diaper - it will soak up the extra pee

or

buy diaper doublers at Toys R Us or Babies R Us.
