I love my daughter's Britax Marathon. Its good up to 65lbs on harness.

I have been happy with our Britax Marathons (which we got on sale) and they now RF to 40 lbs and FF to 70. I have put the cover through the wash (though I hung to dry).

You can't go straight to the nautulis (which is a great seat) because you should keep your child rear facing as long as possible and that seat does not rear face. Britax is always a good choice. The seat I have and love (because it is so easy to clean, the fabric just pops off and you can throw it in the washer without unstalling the car seat). It is the First Year True Fit.

We just purchased a Britax Marathon 70 and love it. We have a small car and were surprised that it fits really well! It rear faces until 40 lbs and forward faces until 70 lbs! We plan to keep our little one rear facing until she outgrows the RF weight or height limits or when she turns 4, and this seat will let us do that.

Britaxes are probably the most reputable seats on the market for safety and this one will hopefully be the last seat we'll have to buy. It's also much easier to get her in and out of it than the infant seat, I find.

Albebaby.com has them on sale for about $200 (normally $279), and diapers.com will price match. It's not a cheap seat, but it should be cheaper to get this one than to get a smaller, less expensive seat and then need to get another when grows out of that.

LOVE the Britax Marathon! So do our kids. We have 2. They're super comfortable, easy to install, and come in lots of colors/patterns.

Britax marathon! We kept both of our kids backward past two years, and were in a fatality accident with one and she was fine! Super comfy, easy to install and adjust, easy to clean. Super cute prints too! I'd try them out at babies r us then buy on albeebaby.com or new in box on eBay.

If you don't want to spend the money on Britax we love our Evenflo Triumph. It's awesome and I'm totally in love with the crank down feature as opposed to the pull rope to tighten the belt. It hasn't failed me yet! The only down side to it is that it's a bit bulky. If you keep it one car and don't move it around or take it on airplanes often, it's great!

I really do not have an answer. However, if you find a car seat that accomodate a tall 18-24 month old let me know! My kids have extremely
long legs (all very, very tall) so would never make it rear facing that long.
Also, again if you find a rear facing carseat easy to get in and out,, please
post it. I am not talking about the ones with the base. Talkiing about the
convertible ones that can go either way.

plenty of good options in a variety of price ranges -
the Graco MyRide 65 and Evenflo Triumph Advance ($150 and under) are the most affordable of the high-weight harnessing convertible seats that would last most kids until they've got the size and maturity to use a belt-positioning booster. The First Years/Compass TrueFit, Britax Roundabout55, Sunshine Kids Radian, and Britax Marathon are a bit more expensive and are also great options. here are a couple useful links:

We recently purchased a Graco Nautilius for our nearly 4YO. It goes from a 5-point harness to a high backed booster to a backless booster seat. We have always found Graco easy to take apart and clean.

I love the Evenflo Triumph Advance. It's super easy to get my daughter in and out of and to clean. Plus it's more affordable than Britax.

We have the Evenflo Symphony. It will rear face and will also carry your child from 5 up to 100 pounds as a booster. It is easy to move from car to car and it is very comfy- he sometimes doesn't want to get out of it. We got ours at BRU- this is also the seat my parents have in their car for him and he has used it from the time he was a few days old.

We got the Safety first air protect, its rear facing and then you can turn it around forward facing http://airprotect.safety1st.com/ goes for up to 40 lbs and 40 inches rear facing and 50 lbs and 45 inches forward facing
I love it and it is really comfy for the little one (mine will be 2 years on the 16th and is 29 lbs and 32 inches

I have 3 kids and have used the Graco, Sunshine Kids and Britex convertible car seats. My kids are all in the lower percentile for weight so we used our seats rear facing until about 20 months old.
My very favorite is the Britex Roundabout - my 2-year old and 4-year old still love theirs, but my 6-year old got too tall for it around age 5. This was a great seat backward and forward.
The Sunshine Kids Radian is great for fitting 3 across the back seat though, and kids can stay in them longer (my oldest is now 6 and finally big enough for the booster (40 pounds) so for the past year or 2 he's used the Radian). This seat would work backwards, but the back is very high so you'd have a hard time seeing them.
My vote is for the Britex Roundabout. (I found the Britex Marathon to be way too big and expensive).
