Hi,

I am trying to find a veterinarian in my area (Macomb Township) that is not too expensive, but is very knowledgable on shots, heartworm and flea meds, older dog meds, and soft tissue surgeries? I was with my vet for 20 years. She grew bigger and changed over the years. She was never in her clinic and expected me to see her associates. I would request her, not her associates.
Anyway, she decided to release my pets' records and sent me elsewhere
(sent me walking). How rude!
I have a 12 year old cocker spaniel, an 8 year old cocker spaniel (had a ruptured disk and surgery back in Nov. 2007. She is not walking on her own, but doing O.K. on a "Bottoms Up Leash"), and a 14 week old english springer spaniel.
Of course, my vet was not around when my 8 year old had her ruptured disk and she was not at the clinic when my 5 1/2 year old cocker acquired an "animec disease" and passed away May 12th, 2008.
I have been terribly hurt by my ex-vet.
Please help me find a new veterinarian.
Thank you,
J. C.

Thank you to everyone that has responded to my email about a new Vet.
Does anyone know of the Veterinary General on Hayes & 24 Mile Rd. (Shelby Township?
I have not heard good or bad about this vet.

So What Happened?

Thank you to all that wrote to me about a new vet. I took my 8 year old dog (ruptured disk/not walking)to see Dr. Wilson at Animal Hospital of Sterling Heights/Wilson's Animal Hospital (Romeo). He was very helpful and he is having me take my dog, Christie, to his Canine Rehabiltation Assistant. He has great bed side manners, helpful, and his prices are good.
Thank you to all,
J. C.

I wanted to second the recommendation for the Pet Doctor on Hayes. I took my cats to him for a few years when I lived out that way, and they really are a wonderful practice.

Another vet practice that I really love is Snider Veterinary Services. Most of my family brings their pets there, and we've all had very good experiences. They are on Garfield south of 18. The number is ###-###-####.

We also love The Pet Doctor on Hayes. He is such a kind and gentle man. When I was in college, I had a very sick cat. He knew I couldn't afford the treatment and did it for very low cost. Probably 1/3 of the actual cost. My entire family take their pets there.

hi J., My sister works for a very good vet hospital in Romeo, the name is Wilsons Veterinarian hospital--it is open 24 hours 7 days a week it is right on Van Dyke right in the middle between 32 and 31 mile road---we only had one little four legged friend but were very happy with the services we recieved--I know my neighbor just switched her three dogs to Wilsons from her vet of 17 years and is extrememly happy (and was very happy when they were actually below the estimated cost on an emergancy surgical procedure): they also offer physical thearapy--they do have more than one location and I believe one of them is in sterling Heights, but I am not sure on the exact location of that office, there are quite a few doctors that work there and if you want to message me I can give you the names of the doctors that my sister has work on her 2 year old boston that has very bad food allergies: I do know that they do alot of orthopdic surgeries there--anyway the # for the main office in Romeo is ###-###-#### if your interested, sorry I jumped all around--was trying to think of all the good points and there are so many I kinda get excited

good luck I know how special our four legged friends are in our lives

Hi J.! L., here. I strongly recommend our vets: Macomb Veterinary Associates (MVA)! There are located on Van Dyke between 21 & 22 Mile. Dr. Harp especially, although all of them are fabulous. The staff is so friendly and they do everything than can to get you in if it's an emergency, etc. We've been taking our fur babies there since we moved out here 6 years ago. Their number is :###-###-####. If you have any other questions about them, feel free to email me, I'd love to help.

I have been using my vet for 14 years and I love him. He is in practice for the animals and has always been very good to me.

Pet Doctor on Hayes just south of Canal.
###-###-####

Like I said he is a wonderful vet and person, and if he is not sure what is going on he will refer you to a specialist.

The other that seems good, but I only used their emergency 24 hour services once, was on Gratiot just North of Mount Clemens. I think it's called NOrth Gratiot, but it is right behind the Kitty hospital.

Good luck

Dr. Anderman and her staff at Creekside (22 & Romeo Plank) are AMAZING! We've been going to them since they opened and will never go anywhere else! We've told some neighbors about her and now they go there too. It is small and welcoming and they'll remember you by name!

Lots of recommendations, already! I'm going to add mine:
Cameron Medical Center for Animals - West side of Van Dyke, between 22 & 23 Mile Road.

http://www.cameronmedicalcenter.com/

They have 2 vets (Dr. Cameron & Dr. Arment) - I've seen both and they've been great. They gave such great care to my dog. They were able to get her in for a last minute surgery on New Years Eve....they always got her in for appointments quickly...and really do care.

I had to have my dog put to sleep in February (she was 15 and had a cancerous tumor in her mouth) - they tried many options and were honest when they felt they had exhausted all measures. They were always loving and caring to my dog, and were caring and sympathetic towards me. Their number one priority was the health of my dog, keeping her from pain and giving her a good quality of life.

I'd highly recommend them.

I also take our dogs to Wilson Vet Hospital in Romeo. They have a staff of 5 or 6 vets, and we've been happy with all that we have seen. I've had to take the older of our 2 dogs (14 YO) in frequently lately as she's been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. We've been seeing Dr. Harder for that particular ailment, and I've been particulary happy with her care.

Hi J.,

I read your post and although the vet I am recommending is not in Macomb Township, she is excellent. I have two Jack Russell Terriers and having been taking them to the Animal Medical Center in Rochester Hills bordering Troy since 1996. We see Dr. Karen Saxton, she has two other associates in the practice although I have never seen them for an appointment. We like her because she listens to our concerns, is honest and easy to talk to and offers suggestions but never pressures us. For example, my older Jack Russell needed to have her teeth cleaned and I was apprehensive about putting her under anethisia (sp?)as she was 9 years old at the time. I finally had it done in 2006 and the procedure went well. My mother also takes her 4 year old boxer there (actually my parents have been seeing Dr. Saxton since 1983 when she was just out of college working at Sharp Animal Hospital). I trust Dr. Saxton with my pets and their well being. For us that is most important. As for prices it's not unreasonable but again I have nothing to compare with.
Animal Medical Center is at 994 W. South Blvd. at Livernois which is actually Rochester Hills. It's just up M-59 to Rochester Rd. then a little bit south to South Blvd. and a half mile up to Livernois. The number is ###-###-####. A little drive from Macomb, but we have been happy with our pets care for all these years. I also read a previous response that suggested Gasow Veterinary, that too is good place, my mother used to take her boxers there in the late 1960's and 1970's before we found Dr. Karen Saxton.
Good Luck with finding a new vet.

Hi J.
I'm Ms Dee Dee in Oak Park, I'm sooo sorry to hear about your loss, it is a sad thing to lose a pet that you become so close to, I myself have two poms (Tyson & Cayenne) and a longharied calico ( Liyah)+ a fish (beta male) named Sammy, I love them dearly and cannot bear the thought of losing either one. You did not mention what expensive is to you, because to me vet bills period are or can become expensive. I have a regular vet that I use located in Southfield, call Dworks, they are very attentive, have great hours, they offer doogie daycare, and training, etc, and is very reasonable with prices and then there is Jones Vet also located in Southfield which is also a great place, you could also try the yellow pages for vets that are BBB owned in your area, get them on the phone and tell them your needs & then listen to how they respond to you, if it is a good response go with that vet on a trail basis and then go from there. I'ts hard to find someone to intrust our pets to because they are like our children in a way, I hope you find someone to fit your needs with the info I have provided. Good Luck!!!! ____@____.com

Love, love, love with all my heart everyone at the VCA Animal Hospital in Clinton Twp. on Garfield. ####-###-####. Dr. Brown is truly remarkable making you feel like your pet is his own. We love going. We briing , not only Callie Lou (our rescued lab\pit mix) there but we bring along our 20 month old daughter who adores all dogs. As soon as you come in a few times they call your dogs name back to take them as if you've been there a million times. An office visit is 30.00 dollars and they do price match on all medications. Just so you know. Like for example, I called 1-800 petmeds to see if it was cheaper and it was. then I called Dr. Brown and he's the one that said we price match and will have it a week earlier than pet meds would. Awesome. One last thing....I call all the time if I should bring in my dog if I feel she's sick and I asked to speak to Dr. Brown and if he can't get to you at that time... he DOES and ALWAYS called me back at home and never rushed any of my questions. Nor do they push you to come in right away to have the pet seen. They give you specific instructions on what to do gor your sick pet and if after a few days then they say to bring them in. Very educated bunch of people. Gosh, I hope I helped!!!!
