New to Sellwood... Toddler Reccomendations Anyone?

Hi there,
My 17 month old and I will be moving ( just from close in Portland ) to Sellwood in a week. I know of a few parks to go to, but was hoping someone has some good suggestions for things to do in that neighborhood. We're right on Jhonson Creek off of Tacoma. Anyone know of playgroups, community centers, kid friendly restraunts / coffee shops in that area?

What can I do next?

Hi,

I live in Sellwood too. You are moving to the BEST neighborhood in Portland. Sellwood is family neighborhood. There is sooo much to do. The Sellwood Park is close; in the summer the pool is open. The library is close. They usually have book babies 2x a week. The community center hosts various parent/child (babies to toddlers and up) activities. You are close to bookstores, restaurants, New Seasons, Ugly Mug (the BEST coffee house). You'll love it. There are also play groups. Contact Eric Miller @ ____@____.com't hesitate to email Eric and request to be put on the play group email list. He's great and so is the group. Congtrats and perhaps I'll meet you around. Just over the bridge in John's Landing is Fulton Community Center. We love this cc and they have preschool programs as well. Indoor playparks on Monday, Wed., and Sat. mornings from 9 to 11am.

Hi M.,

There is the Sellwood Community Center. Your boy will be ready for classes soon. You could also check out other community centers at Portland Parks online. Your son might enjoy indoor park/gym this is a nice alternative to outdoor parks in the Winter.

Hey, M.,

I'm in Sellwood two days a week with my 21 month old. My naturopathic clinic is on 9th and Sherrett just south of Tacoma. My business associates have a 2 1/2 year old, the office is out of the home, and we take turns with the kids. In order to get them out of the house/office when the others are working, we often go to the Sellwood Community Center on Wednesday mornings for indoor play park. We've also done sign and sing classes there, and there are many more classes.

In the summer the pool and park at 7th just north of Tacoma is a great spot to spend time with the little ones. More of a drive is OMSI's science playground, and Woodstock library which has amazing storytime. Tully's on 13th has a kid's play area. I am amazed how kid-friendly the neighborhood is!

My in-laws live in Sellwood- I love it over there! I haven't been to this yet because I don't know if I could go enough to make it worth the membership fee, but you can try the indoor park while its so wet outside. Once summer rolls around, there is a community pool that is always hopping. I plan on taking my son once summer hits.
