I'm transitioning from working p/t to staying home full time with my 9-mo girl and 2yr-8 mo boy. I am not sure how I can fill the day with educational play time for the two of them instead of just feeling overwhelmed and exhausted all the time. Used to do Gymboree play and learn with my son about a year ago but he had obviously grown out of that. All recommendations are welcome!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you, Susan, for that detailed suggestions. I will check out those books ASAP!! I am also looking into children museums. Among the ones in Pasadena, Chino, La Habra, and Santa Ana, which one(s) do you like better?! Should consider enrolling in any of those program?! Are they difficult to do if I have to bring both kids with me?!

I have a few suggestions...

1) Try and find an organized playgroup near you. You can try http://www.meetup.com/ (just type in "Playgroup" or "Stay At Home Mom" along with your zip code to find groups in your area). Also check out http://www.momsclub.org. They have local chapters in nearly every city and get together several times a week with their children.

2) Check out the storytime's in your area, either at the public library or at your local Borders Bookstore. It is easy to meet other moms with young kids there, to create your own playgroup to plan activities with. Parks are great for this too.

3) There are a couple of great books to give you ideas about what to do with your children. "Baby's Day Out In Southern California: Fun Places to Go With Babies and Toddlers" is by JoBea Holt. "Fun Places to Go With Kids in Southern California" by Susan Peterson is also great. Both have tons of ideas of places to go that are fun, educational, and low cost or free!

4) Check out My Gym (http://www.my-gym.com/) as an alternative to Gymboree. My Gym is geared for kids up to 9 years of age -- there is one in La Verne, which isn't too far from you.

Hope these suggestions are helpful. Good for you for making the decision to stay home with your kids. These early years are so very important, and they go by in a flash. Good luck!

The childrens museum in Chino is awesome. Both of your kids will like it. Also Victoria Gardens has a great outdoor play area and a little riding train that goes around the shops. They also do fun outdoor activities throughout the year just look it up online. I know its pretty far but, Moreno Valley has a great gymnastics gym called Realis Gym that does open play for kids 0-5 years every Tues and Thursday morning from 10am to 11am. They open up the whole gym to the kids and you go around with them as they explore and play. My daughter LOVES it there. She's 2 yrs 5 mos and I've been taking her there since she was 1 yr. Have fun being a fulltime shm. I love it!

Hello, I live in San Diego County where our Libraries have Story Time with "Grandparent Readers". I started my now 14 year old grandson when I first heard about it when he was about 2 years old, then began my now 11 year old grandson when he was about 5 months old, my now 8 year old grandson when he was also an infant as well as my now 2 year old grandaughter. They have all had the same reader (Grandma Barbara) and love her and Story Time. You can check with your local Libraries.
Good luck with your precious family.
