New to Area: Hoping for Doctor Recommendations

Hello, we have just moved to the Katy area and are in need of some referrals and advice. Here we go: Does anyone have a physician they would recommend as a primary care physician for an adolescent boy? Does anyone have a suggestion for a primary care physician for me, a mom--and I would prefer a female? Any ideas for a counselor or therapist recommended for dealing with moving and adjustment concerns? I would also appreciate recommendations for a dermatologist, dentist and veterinarian. Thank you for any suggestions and advice--moving is tough.

What can I do next?

The only recommendation I have would be for a dentist. My family uses Charles Ray and he is in the Cinco Ranch area. He is a fantastic dentist. The offices are extremely nice and the staff is very pleasant. The number is ###-###-####.

Dr. Shamim Ali is great! She stays on top of EVERYthing. She's in the doctor's building on the corner of Fry & Kingsland in the Grand Parkway Family Practice Clinic I believe it's called. The phone number I found is: ###-###-####. I don't know if it's changed, we've since moved out of the area but you can't go wrong w/her. She is EXCELLENT. VERY thorough & not one of these doctors that just writes a prescription w/o a reason or w/o finding out what's wrong w/you, she is good. She listens to you & doesn't just pass you off nor hurrys you up out of there to get to the next patient. We loved our dentist, Dr. Adriana Maria Zaharie at the Villagio Family Dental in the Villagio shopping center, on the corner of Westheimer & Peek (easiest to turn left on Peek & right into the parking lot). She is the BEST. We just love her, she explains EVERY detail of what she's doing & why, what your teeth are doing & why & VERY gentle, kind & considerate. I'd recommend Old Towne Animal Hospital on Ave. D (off Hwy. 90/Old Katy area). They're really nice, really exceptional, & accomodating. Superb treatment of our cat & we tried 3 different ones & liked them so much better than the others. They're nice, they listened to me/us, accomodated an emergency situation although they were full, they got me in w/no arguments, it was "no problem, bring her in, we'll fit you in". They weren't "in a hurry" to get to the next patient. Very VERY nice. Wouldn't recommend anyone else that we've been to.

Hello and welcome to Katy! We have been here for about a year and a half. Don't worry--you will get through it! Okay, here goes: I take all 3 of my daughters to Cinco Ranch Pediatrics. I'm pretty sure 12 is their age limit for accepting new patients (my oldest just got in under the wire--she turned 13 yesterday). I like them a lot b/c they get you in and out and will ALWAYS see you same day if your child is sick. Last week I called on Monday afternoon at 3pm after my daughter got home from school and 20 mins. later we were sitting in the doctor's office being seen. The only drawback is that they have 6 or 7 doctors and you see whoever is available (unless it is a well visit and you want to select your 'favorite'). If you would prefer not to take him to a pediatrician, then my next recommendation would be for him as well as for you: Dr. Shelly Ferrill. She is really, really good--very nice, very smart, very willing to explain everything in as much detail as you like. Unfortunately, I have found it virtually impossible to get a same day appointment, and she stays pretty booked up. I unfortunately do not have a counselor recommendation for you, but if you have selected a place of worship, you might want to ask them. I have a dermatologist recommendation that I got from Dr. Ferrill, but I haven't seen them yet. Katy Dermatology, Dr. Czelusta or Dr. Uptmore (both men). Our dentist is Dr. Zaharie--she is pretty good, very fast, not as gentle as our old dentist though. Finally we go to Green Trails Animal clinic for our vet. Here are the numbers:
Cinco Ranch Pediatrics: ###-###-####
Dr. Shelly Farrill: ###-###-####
Katy Dermatology: ###-###-####
Dr. Zaharie: ###-###-####
Green Trails Animal Clinic: ###-###-####
Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

My doctors are still in Missouri City and the Medical Center due to long term care for my girls. but my vet is Katy Veterinary Clinc Dr. Kari Cleavinger. She was recommended to me by our neighbor. She is very good and the staff is great with animals. She just diagnosised our new puppy with heartworms and gave us all of the information up front for the treatment so that we could make a decision that was best for the family. We have been seeing her and her staff for about a year and have nothing but good things to say.
For regular shots and annual exam I do however take both of my dogs to Petco when they have the vet come thru to give shots. For $50.00 each they get everything they need. I would try that also to save money. Good Luck and welcome to Katy. We love it out here and we have only been here about 1 1/2 years.
