New to Area and Looking for a Great Pediatrician

Hi Moms,

We just moved to St. Louis from Texas and need to get set up with doctors. The most immediate need is for a pediatrician. We're looking for one that is personable, knows his/her stuff and is great with children. We're currently in the University City area, but we'll travel 20 minutes for a great doc!

Thanks!

A.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you so much for all of the enthusiastic responses and for the kind welcome to this city. We'll probably go with a doc you all recommended!

Welcome to St. Louis! I take my 6 month old son and 2 1/2 yr daughter to Southwest Pediatrics. They are in the city, on Landsdowne, but every doctor there is wonderful. We go to Dr. Schmidt, and my kids love him (as do we). He is very easy to talk to, and very thorough. We have seen pretty much every dr. there, and we are happy with all of them. Sorry if this is a repeat, didn't read the other responses.

We go to Metropolitan Pediatrics (Dr. Diehl, who I believe only takes newborns as new patients) and we have been very happy with them. There are 5 ped's in the practice and I've met all of them. They're right near 270 and 44. ###-###-####. I would highly recommend!!!

Also, there is a new issue of StLouis Magazine out now with a list of 2009 Best Doctors (includes ped's.) I saw it at the grocery store last night. Here is the website for the magazine, but the article won't be on there until the hard copy is off news stands. I've used the Best Doc list before and was happy with it.

Good luck and welcome to Saint Louis!

I'll give a second recommendation for Esse Peds on Watson Road. We see Dr. Terrill regularly, and we love her. She has young kids herself, understands parenting and medicine, and spends a lot of time with us. We've also been very happy with the other doctors in the office.

A great pediatrician is Dr. Paul Simons at Forest Park Pediatrics. He is very knowledgable and great with children. My sister-in-law brings her daughter from Illinois to see Dr. Simons as she is extremely particular.

we love our pediatrician, Dr. Gary Sherman in Creve Coeur, and we drive all the way from St. Charles because he's worth it. He takes plenty of time with our twins, and is just so caring. ###-###-####

There are several doctors in this office, if she's not available. Everyone there - doctors, nurses and medical office personnel are SO NICE!!! They have really good hours too! M - Th 7 am - 7 pm, Fri 8 - 4:30 and Sat 9 - 11:30.
My OB's medical office used to be at Barnes Jewish. Her nurse practitioner is the one that recommended Dr. Amato to me while I was trying to find a pediatrician when I was pregnant. When I met Dr. Amato for the first time, there was just something that felt right about her - kind of like I had known her forever!!
Good luck and again welcome to St. Louis!!

Welcome to STL! We see Dr. Schmandt at Forest Park Pediatrics four our 13 month old daughter--http://www.forestparkpeds.com, but we've seen four of the doctors there and we like the practice very much. Dr. Ruby-Ziegler is also great. They have very helpful nurses and Saturday hours and cooperate with Barnes Children's very well. In fact, we just took a tour of tests at Children's yesterday on Dr. Schmandt's orders. ;) Best of luck!
