Hi everyone,
I am moving to Pleasanton in June for hubby's new job. Bringing 3 kids, one is headed off to SMU in Dallas for college (lots of change).
I need to furnish a big house and love shabby chic/funky pieces. Any good/different/interesting furniture or consignment stores I should know about?

What can I do next?

Two of my favorites in Pleasanton, one of them country french, have already gone out of business. There is still one consignment store that I know of in dublin, I believe the street is called Villiage Parkway. It is not upscale per se, its just a run of the mill consignment store.

Don't forget you might find things on Craig's List, online.

Summertime finds all kinds of garage sales on the weekends here in Livermore.I don't even use the paper, I just drive down Holmes st., between Concannon and Mocho, and follow all the signs. The intersection of Mmurietta and Olivina usually has several garage sale signs pointing in all directions as well.

Welcome to California S.: I know form living in the south and having family and friends in several southern states you are in for many shocks. Be patient. Feel free to contact me if you just want to talk. The style of the south is very different than you will find here so if you have a chance to get something special before you come you might consider it. The consignment stores I like are 2nd Ave. in Castro Valley. They will help you find things that you are looking for and are very good to work with. There is a consignment store next to Boswells and Costco in Danville/ San Ramone that is good but I will get you the name. I have recently heard of a place in San Jose where you can buy things that the fine dinning and hotels send their things to when they are redoing spaces but I haven't been able to get more information on it yet. Hope your time in California is a good one. We can always use great nurses here &if you decide to go back to work you live in the area of a fine hospital. Nana G.

Welcome to the Bay Area. It's a wonderful place to live.

I agree with Gail. craigslist.org is a great place to search for furnitures and there are plenty of garage sales going on everywhere.

If you go Craigs list route, remember never meet anyone alone - always bring a friend or go with your husband.
