New Teeth
my 5 yo has her first lose tooth. we just realized that behind her lose tooth, her big tooth is coming in. it has already popped through her gum. has anyone else experienced this before? i plan to call her dentist in the morning, but wondering if she will have to get her teeth pulled. what has been your experience?
So What Happened?™
Thank you for all of your responses. I listened to my mommy instinct and took her to the dentist today. It was a good thing. They took x-rays and determined that there are some major issues with her mouth/teeth and they will have to pull 2 teeth, and she has been referred to an orthodontist. So I tell all of you...go with your gut! Even when we all think something is normal and it is a waste of time to get professional help, we need to listen to ourselves. If we hadn't gone, her big tooth could have broken off her little tooth and it could be more serious.

It shouldn't be a problem. The new one coming in is often why the baby teeth get loose and fall out.

Exactly the same thing with my 5 yr old DD. Her tooth finally fell out but the new tooth is way back in her gum an at a funny angle. I guess we will see.

You are describing a normal process. You can even pull the tooth yourself, just wiggle it after applying some oral gel to numb the gum. I did it with all my older son's baby teeth :)

That happened with my son and my neice as well. Looks a little strange but was not a problem. Once the baby teeth were out, the permanant teeth moved forward on their own and are now perfectly in place without any help from a dentist. So I would say, no worries! A little time and they will get to where they need to be.

Nope perfectly normal! My oldest was eating a chip one day and told me the chip made her tooth loose. When I looked, not only was her tooth loose, but the permenant tooth was coming in. She lost 4 teeth before she started Kindergarten all while she was in Pre-K and not even 5 yet. Now she is 13 and getting her wisdome teeth in. So, no worries. Some get teeth early, some on time, some really late. Just depends on the child. Let the tooth come out on it's on or if it is bothering her then pull it and give her some ice cream afterwards. That is what we did for the first tooth. Then the tooth fairy gave her 50 cents that night. It is only the first of many. Wait until your regular dentist appt, don't waste the money. Good luck and God Bless.

I personally had that happen to me when I was younger, if her tooth is lose then it should be fine, when her big tooth gets up high enough have her push on it with her tongue to kind of encourage it to move forward. The only time you would need to worry is if the tooth in front isn't lose at all.

Id say it's fine. reading this reminded me of when my puppy started getting her big teeth. she had all her big teeth along with her baby teeth, so she had two rows of teeth that made her look like a shark. :)

The permanent tooth usually comes in right behind the loose tooth. Completely normal.
