New Glasses

I'm going to be getting new glasses in a couple of weeks, but I always run into the same problem... I don't know how to pick frames that will look good on me. I haven't decided yet if I will wear contacts part of the time or not, but either way I want glasses that I will like because I know I won't wear them if I don't! I have a roundish face shape, am very fair complected, and have light brown hair. My eye color changes between hazel with gold flecks to green and there is a blue ring around the iris either way. (Don't know if any of this matters but thought it might when deciding on the color of the frames.) Anybody have suggestions?
Thanks for your ideas!

What I do is wear contacts while choosing frames. Otherwise I can't see what I look like! After I have tried on almost all the frames in the store, I try to narrow down what I think I like and then ask the technician who is helping me with my order for her thoughts. The store I go to actually has an extremely helpful person. Not all stores do. So be careful that you make a judgment call about the person before you listen too much to their advice. Women seem to do better at this, imo.

Also, there is usually a wait before you are seen by the optometrist. I use that time to begin trying on frames. Otherwise, I feel rushed afterwards.
When you find a general style that you like, try on several pairs in similar styles and different colors. Sometimes the color of the frame can make a difference. Sometimes it is whether the outer corners are rounded, squared, or cat-eye or sloped..... So try on lots and lots of frames. I always feel like I have tried on every frame in the store 3 times before I am comfortable with a choice.
Don't be shy about it.. glasses are expensive. And you will wear them everywhere.

The optometrist should be able to help you fit the right one based on your face - simply ask

Well, decide if you want frames that "disappear" or are a statement.

Some people use their glasses as a fashion accessory and some just want their glasses to look invisible.

Once you decide that, a good knowledgeable eye glass shop person, WILL be good for helping you pick what is good for your face shape etc.
So use them to help you decide.
That is what they are there for.

I wear glasses.
I like the ones that are a statement and are edgy looking.
That's just a personal choice.
The woman who helped me at the eyeglass shop, was VERY helpful. VERY experienced.
She spent a lot of time, just on me helping.

I love my new glasses, I fell in love with them when I first seen them, they are ray-ban, and it has a sterling silver rim around the glasses, and the legs are thick not skinny and are purple, they have other colors, but they are too cute, I also have a round face and brown hair, and I get allot of compliments. I think the frame model number is 2501.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Silhouettes. They are titanium frames with no hinges at all, super light, and no rim around the "glasses". They drill little holes in the glass and attach the legs and nose piece. There is a custom sunglass clip on that snaps onto the nose piece. They come in many glass shapes (round, oval, squares off, etc) and also the titanium can be a multitude of colors. I got silver-colored legs and nose piece and oval glasses. They dissappear on your face. I got them because the are SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT and I hated those dents in my nose. I have now had them for 6 years, same prescription, never changed the lenses, lost one of the sunglass clips and bought another recently. The are very expensive ($400) but since I have done nothing with them for 6 years and I wear them every single day for about 16 hours I think it was well worth the expense. I recently thought I would get a cheap but stylish back-up pair ( a place called ForEyes has 2 for $99) but the frames were heavy and I did not like any of them, and will just keep my super large old owl-looking glasses with a slightly older prescription as a true back-up.

I think half rim glasses tend to look like nice on almost any shape of face. Additionally, at foreyes, they have the Randy Jackson styles which are cute too, if you like his look (see American Idol) I saw the frames in person and they were nice.. To me, with you coloring, I tend to stay away from black frames as that might be too harsh.. but I have seen anything from dark browns , navy and even dark green look good on people.. with your features, I think those warm tones would prob make your features stand out..

It depends on fit and proportion as well as shape and color. Take your time to try on lots of frames, do not try to do it in a hurry. I you are not sure what looks good, bring a friend to help.

Also, at smaller places, there is usually someone who can direct/make suggestions, etc. I go to a small optical shop and when I'm getting confused I ask a particular staff member for a suggestion. He pulls a pair or two and I almost always love his choice. BTW, when I am going there I do call ahead and make sure he is working.

The cutest glasses that I have ever got I got them through Coastal Contacts, they are half rimmed pink and black. The best part is since I friended them on Facebook, I was notified when they do their freebie glasses (10,000 at a time) and I got a full pair of glasses (standard lenses) for under $15 with shipping (I only paid for shipping).

Here's what you do: Go to your optometrist, have them measure you for glasses and get them to write down your prescription and your pd measurement (its the width from the center of one pupil to the other). Then go online to zennioptical.com and download a picture of yourself to their website. Then you can "try on" thousands of frames on your picture and REALLY see what you will look like. Their prices are awesome and their selection is fabulous. They got my glasses to me in about 2 weeks, which if you order is about how long it would take to get them to you anyway. Good Luck! BTW-- try on lots, but I have a roundish face, fair complexion and light brown hair and I found I liked oval or rectangular glasses best with my face shape.

Well, pick out your frames BEFORE you get your eyes dilated. There is no possible way to do it the other way around and feel comfortable with your decision. That's just been my experience.
They have so many cute styles now that it can be overwhelming to choose. I try to find what compliments my features, coloring and will go with just about everything I wear. My sister had a bunch of different frames and changes her glasses to what she's wearing. I don't do that.
I also consider comfort more than anything. I have to wear my glasses and I don't want them pinching me anywhere. I work with a woman who has to take her glasses off every so often because they hurt her nose and he has big indentations on either side where the nose piece digs into her nose. It makes me hurt for her just looking at it. For me, sacrificing comfort isn't an option.
Take someone with you if you can. I've had people at the doctor office or dispensing option's office who were helpful and some were absolutely not.

Take your time. Be sure you can see what you try on.

Best wishes.

I hate most eye places. As part of the exam, they usually dialate your eyes then shortly after they ask you to pick out frames. You can't see. Most of them offer no customer service.

Try going to the appointment early and trying on frames before your exam. Also, if possible bring along a friend for some advice. Ask the optician to help you select a few that would look good on you (this is part of their job). Also, ask someone else who is trying on frames at the time.

With a fair complection, stay away from really dark colored frames.
