Hi
I have a 10 mo and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on food for her to mull on other than baby food and cheerios. She seems to be really interested in my plate and wants something from it everytime we eat. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I can give her. For example is shredded cheese a No-No? She eats the cheerios really well she just likes to store them like a chimpmunk(sp?). lol
Thank you in advance!

Hi K.,
I have my 11 mo old grandson, it had been 22 yrs since i've had a baby in the house. first, how many teeth does she have?
My grandson teethed early so he had a tooth at 7 mos an now has 4 working on 5. I started with the parents choice snacks at Wal-Mart. I started with the sweet potato. They melt in their mouth. They are inexpensive, lots in the can, they last a long time. Also, anything I fixed for dinner, was fair game! At first I would use my food processor or blender to make the meat fine. After a while I just started cutting it in dices and let him feed himself with diced meat and veggies. He has hardly eaten baby food. He also liked the instant oatmeal packs. Right now, he will be 11 mos. on the 22nd, he is into TV dinners and pot pies. These he gets when my disabilities have me down which isn't often. I aways get ones with veggies. I pretty much keep him away from sweets unless it's fruit. But he loves pudding w/his banana. He gets a bite or two of ice cream now and then, but if I avoid the sweets he will have a better appreciation for healthy food. Any way, e-mail me. I'm at home all day w/a 1 mo. old for company! Can we say "needs adult conversation"?

I used to let my kids chew on green beans and would give them mashed potatoes, my daughter loved to chew on crutons. LOL I would just let her try different things to see if she likes them. Hope that has helped a little

As long as she has not shown any allergic reactions, you can try out most foods (except no peanuts/peanut-butter until 3, no honey or eggs). Try avacado's, kiwi, little mandrin organge slices, cheese, whole grain crackers.....

My son is 11 months now and has been eating table food for months, every since he learned what it meant when I sat down with a plate. We give him green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, soft centers of french fries, stove top stuffing (he loves this the most!!), broken up corn nuggets, rice, macaroni, spaghetti noodle pieces, refried beans, soft ends of asparagus, pices of bread, pancakes, and I am sure there is lots more. It really is up to you what you want to feed your child. There are alot of soft foods like these above that you can feed them without even having to use a food processor and grind them up. It's been quite easy feeding my son these foods and even considering he just now got his first tooth. Most of the time he gets the foods of my plate because he decides he is hungry when he sees mom so its a hold over until I am through and get out the baby food jars. You'll come to realize, they aren't that picky when it comes to your plate, but they are when it comes to jarred food. My son hated bananas as a baby, but since my grandmother started giving him bites of her bananas, I'm buying baby jarred bananas allll the time now. And the chipmunk thing...that's my son to, he stores his green beans in the side of his cheeks and tries to stuff more in. Good luck!

Feed her mashed potatos and gravy if you want or mash up green beans real good.

For adult conversation I use blogging. I've got a blog www.oksecretsquirrel.typepad.com I blog and browse other blogs blogger.com is good for browsing blogs. If you make a blog then always browse other blogs and comment often to get them to come to your blog. It's fun, I think so anyway!

My son loves, loves, loves ripe avocado and has ever since the beginning of table foods. It was a suggestion from the Super Baby Foods book someone else recommended to you. Mango is a good one too if you know how to prepare it (I just can't cut it cleanly). Also try organic hot dogs, mashed potatos, ripe banana, mozzerella cheese (it's soft), any frozed veggie that is cooked well enough to be mushy, yogurt, applesauce...

Just remember to cut the pieces very small so she doesn't choke.

I am new at this (my baby is only 4 mos.) but I am reading a great book right now that is full of really helpful information about food. It is called "Super Baby Food" and it is by Ruth Yaron. You can look it up at www.superbabyfood.com. I find this book helpful because it's all about feeding your baby the food you eat, not jars, etc. Then you can pick and choose which ideas you want to use. It also lets you know at what age foods are appropriate. It says good foods for a 10 month are thinned creamy peanut butter, whole grain pasta, ground sprouts, finely grated raw summer squash, carrots greens, and sweet peppers.Foods should be mashed or pureed and not to leave baby alone while eating them. Sorry this is such a long message. Hope it helps.

My son who is 18 months LOVES the gummy fruit snacks. Yes, they are a bit sugary, but you can find them with reduced sugar if you do some sleuthing! Plus the packaging makes them really convenient to stick in my purse or diaper bag- and since they have a long shelf life I don't have to worry about them going bad! My son also will eat just about any kind of fruit if it is cut up small enough- and he eats peas out of the can! Some other foods that travel well are pretzels or of course goldfish.

Bon a Petit!

Girl,
by the time my kids were 10 months old they were basically eating table food. Mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, shredded cheese is alright. Little bits of corn and green beans, hot dogs if they're cut up REALLY small. Mellon is also a great teether, as well as a good source of vitamins!

At this age my boys were snatching food from our plates on a regular basis. Green beans, Carrots, mashed potatos, rice, and stuffing were the main things. DS#2 did swipe a slice of pizza too. Boy did he have a stomach ache. He prefers cheese pizza now.

Cheese, pancakes, waffles, eggs, and cereal are still favorites here.

Cheese is great, fruit and veggis puffs, mashed potatos, cut up green beans and corn, etc. My son loved pudding as a treat, was a little freaked out by jello though. Anything that doesn't require chewing with back teeth or that will disolve or won't choke. And just because they don't like it the first time doesn't mean they won't like it next time!

You can give her cheese, but I would recommend avoiding it at all cost prior to her 1st birthday for the reason that it does have cow milk protien that babies cannot digest. The whole reason drs recommend waiting for milk until 1 is for this reason because giving it to them can cause them to develop an allergy to it. Trust me when I say food allergies are MISERABLE to deal with.

Something that is great for her but can be messy is egg yolk. NOT THE WHITE, just the yolk. The white is where the protien is and again they cannot digest protiens yet and will develop an allergy, but the yolk is awesome because it is full of good fats and other good nutrients that will help build her brain. Otherwise if you have one of those steamer inserts that fit in a standard 8 cup saucpan you can steam petite baby carrots or broccoli or potatoes or any other veggies or fruits just enough to cut them in bite size pieces and allow her to pick them up. It moves the transition along to eating solids rather than just pureed solids. Goat cheese is more easily digested and would likely be an okay alternative at her age as well.

Consider keeping her from at least the top 8 allergens: egg, tree nuts, peanuts, milk, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish in her first year and it is also recommended by American Pediatrics Association to avoid tree nuts and Peanuts (including peanut butter) until they are 3 yrs old since peanut allergies have sky rocketed in causing uncomfortably frequent death rates in children. The schools in our area are taking this serious enough that any child with even a slight peanut allergy is not permitted to sit at the same table as a child with a peanut butter sandwhich.

Good luck and I hope you are able to find more foods to interest your infant! God Bless.

When my daughter was that age we were starting her more on table foods. We were letting her have soft cheeses and the shredded cheeses she loved. Also she would eat yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet potatoes, very well cut up spaghetti, bananas, seedless watermelon, cooked carrots, mashed up peas (not the baby food kind), chicken noodle soup well cut up too. These are just a few of the foods we started giving her and she loved all of them. Good luck with trying some new foods. I am sure your little one is going to love trying some new foods.

My kids both had shredded cheese about that age. My oldest we were a little slower at giving him solids but when Ray was 10 months he had cheese, cereal, canned cut green beans (cut them smaller if you need to), canned cut carrots, peas, pasta (make spaghetti with spiral noodels and not much sauce gets messy but kids love it!), they also have those gerber baby like tv dinners in the baby isle, the are so easy but kinda expensive. Raviolli were a favorite too, messy but good.

Both of my kids were eating about everything I did at that point. Except red meats and harsh spices.

You are getting at fun age where you can start to experiment with different foods. You probably remember w/ your older child how fun it is to see them try new foods and textures.

Nothing is really going to hurt them except they are not suppose to have honey or nuts before one....if I remember correctly????? You of course shouldn't try stuff they can't chew.

I agree w/ one of the responses the gerber meals are great. The Gerber Puffs are a great snack and dissolve in the mouth really good. Most cereals are great snacks too....don't limit it to cheerios. My kids loved cheerios...but they gave them gas??

When my girls went for their 9 month check up, their doctor said they could have anything you could mash between your fingers except eggs, peanut butter and honey (she said to hold off on those until 12 months due to allergies). They eat pretty much any table food now (they're almost 12 months). They both really seem to like spaghetti and they love fruit, pudding and yogurt.

Hi K., I used to feed my daughter things like carrot sticks, gold fish, celery, apple slices, graham crackers, and she also liked dipping the carrots, celery, apples, graham crackers in peanut butter. She had a blast with those, plus the peanut butter will let you get at least 2 bites of your own in before they're ready for more. speghetti is a meal they can feed themselves. Peas, green beans, and fresh squash are good too! Oh, and cheese is probably fine just watch for constipation. I hope this helps.

green beans, green peas, cooked carrots - any vegetable that gets "soft" when cooked. Bits of banana. Mashed potatoes. Pretty well anything on your plate that isn't spicy, etc and is soft.

Honey, these days, you don't take the doctors for everything they tell you to do. Mash up some of your table food and let her go for it. But some peas or mixed veggies on her tray and watch her go for it. I love watching babies grow and change. Mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, soft food easy to digest. It's okay. cut up some banannas, strain some mixed fruit coctail. She's even gnaw on toast with a touch of butter or jam or peanutbutter. Let her experiment on what she will like. Try giving her some of your food and see if she can chew it easily and if she can try giving her some of what u are eating. If you notice she hasn't quite grasped the concept of eating solid food try like mashed potatoes, oatmeal stuff that soft or creamy and see how she does.

Do you have a baby food grinder? I have one (you can get them at Kmart for about $10) and my daughter loved macaroni and cheese when she was younger. You can actually put any food that you eat into it and serve it to your daughter. I thought it was great, and it's a nice change from baby food. I think that grated cheese would be a great snack. Good luck!

When my son was around that age (3 now), we used to let him eat well cooked sweet potatoes, okra ( I know, gross), and mashed potatoes mixed with a little extra milk. Also, at Walmart they have parent's choice baby foods. They are kinda like cereal, but different flavors. They have sweet potato, apples and bananas, and my personal favorite freeze dried corn. I could eat a bag of the corn right now lol. I hope that this helped.
