New/Early Pregnancy

Hi Moms. I am curious what others have experienced. My husband and I have been trying for several months to have our 2nd child. I finally was able to give him the good news about 2 weeks ago. I am now 6 weeks along and things seem to be happening that didn't with my first until my 2nd trimester. The first (and most annoying) is the heavy congestion. It started a couple days ago and I am pretty sure it's the pregnancy because aside from not being able to breathe I have no cold symptoms. Again I had the congestion problem with my 1st but it didn't start until 4-5 months. Also, I know they say you'll start to show earlier with your 2nd, but could I really be starting to puff up a little at 6 weeks? I noticed it but thought it was all in my head until my husband mentioned it a couple days ago. Has anyone else started this soon? I don't have my first check up until Jan 6, at which time the doctor said she is going to do an ultrasound, but until then, from all you ladies, is this normal? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I am pregnant (in 9th month) now with my second girl. This pregnancy was nothing like my first and I did start showing by 6 weeks. I have also been congested the whole time. Congratulations!

Yes it is normal to "puff" up at 6 weeks , by the 7th week in my second pregnany I was so uncomfortable and restricted in my jeans that I had to buy a bigger size (had no bump to be able to wear maternity clothes at that stage). Don't worry it doesn't mean you are going to continue to grow at that rate and be huge , it all slows down and evens out.

You just need to keep in my that your body has been there done that and everything is looser and relaxed so things happen sooner.

Congratulations

With my second, I looked about the same at 6 weeks as I did with my first at 3 months! (I got back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I just don't think abdominal muscles are ever the same again). I first noticed my clothes not fitting right at 4 weeks--2 days before my period was supposed to start. My breast had also gotten bigger and tender at that point and. That pregnancy test was a waste of money (ha ha). I've wondered the same thing, but I think part of it was I was more sensitive to the changes as I knew what to expect. Also, my first was a happy surprise as we had been told we were infertile and were planning on adopting where as the second was a little more expected. I can say that the pregnancy and especially childbirth were easier the second time around. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

I started snoring around 4 weeks with my son b/c the congestion was so bad!

Congratulations!

Very normal/common problems. The congestion is related to extra blood flow to the mucous membranes, your body is more efficient this time so some things are happening earlier.

As for showing earlier, it is mostly abdominal bloating unfortunately:) I am pregnant with my fourth right now and as you can imagine I was wearing maternity pants at 12 weeks:) I am also a nurse midwife and see this a lot among my patients.

Every pregnancy is different, so what you're describing is not weird at all.

For showing, with my second, I was VISIBLY pregnant by 10 weeks. I was wearing maternity clothes by 6 because I was so puffy already. Sounds right on to me!

All pregnancies are different my dear. That way we get to tell completely different stories about each of our childrens beginnings.
Sorry about the congestion, I've never heard of that. I'm betting you have a winter cold coming on instead.

With my second, I was out of my normal pant and back in maternity pants at 8 weeks, so your body really does remember and starts showing much earlier!
And, every pregnancy is different, mine were both completely different from each other.
Best of luck!
