My daughter is 13 months old and for the past 3 weeks has had terrible yeast infection in her diaper area. We've been to the pediatrician once a week for the past 3 weeks and nothing is working. He's put her on Nystatin cream. Then a back and forth regimin between the Nystatin and Lotrimin AF. And now the cream regimin and an oral anti-fungal called Fluconozole. She has now been on that for a week and it's still no better. It's blood red and spreading to her inner thighs. I've been changing her diaper every hour, giving her baths and letting her walk around naked to air dry. I just feel so bad for her b/c it's extremely painful to touch it and it seems as if it will never go away. Any suggestions or anyone been through the same thing? Please help!!

I agree with the diet and probiotics. Do an elimination to see what the culprit is Wheat, Dairy etc. Probiotics are a must and for the diaper area try Unpetroleum from Alba. You can get at Whole Foods or online at Diapers.com. We also use Calendula cream from California Baby.

Feel Better soon!

Go to a dermatologist, preferably a pediatric dermatologist. It would not be the first time (nor the last) that a pediatrician was wrong.

Is the pediatrician positive that it is yeast? Fungal infections can be identified by taking a gentle skin scraping sample.I ask because my daughter recently had what we thought was contact dermatitis from a new brand of soap. The pediatrician took a swab culture of her genital area - turns out it was actually a strep infection. Oral antibiotics cleared it up quickly. Good luck to you!

SURE, I've dealt with this.
The health food store sells childrens probitoics, get some!!
Give her NO sugar what so ever not even juice!! It only encourages more yeast growth. Keep up with the probiotics, it will up her immune system. and give her wonderful good health encouraging properties.
I had to soak my babies but many times a day using no soap.
She may seem more fussy because it effects the whole body and causes a small depression too. Remember a healthy gut is a healthy body!!
Ask more questions I am open for them!!
Prayer works great too!

It's something(s) she's eating. The major culprits are diary (even some yogurts), wheat, and sweets, although a little fruit should be okay... never fruit juice.

The yeast sounds like it's out of control. I would stock up soups (most kids like chicken rice), a good quality probiotic, organic meats (turkey, chicken), and berries for fruit. She may need to stay away from diary for a long time.
