Netflix or Blockbuster Online?

I'm looking into getting either Netflix or Blockbuster Online and was wondering if anyone has any opinions (both good and bad) about either company. I'm specifically wondering about shipping times, especially in the Carrollton area. I've heard that the shipping time depends on how close you are to a distro center.

What can I do next?

The best diffrence between Netflix and Blockbuster that no one has mentioned is the TV shows on DVD selection.
Netflix has more of the classics, old pouplar shows, and newer shows (though I'm still hoping they eventualy get Strange Luck and Becker).
You get all of pbs's MYSTERY!, a lot of NOVA, ER, Frasier, 24, Malcome in the Middle, Home Improvement, Blue Collar Comedy, Sopranos, House, Lost, Desperate Housewives, ..... (you name it you can probably find it!) they have most Sci-fi shows on DVD which makes my husband very happy: Firefly, Andromedea, Battlestar Galatica, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Dark Angel, Star Gate, Farscape, Red Dwarf, Smallville, 4400,........it goes ON and ON!

We used Netflix and were very happy. Turnaround time is quick since they are in Coppell. The only reason we stopped Netflix was that we changed over to Verizon FiOS. With all the videos on demand that they had and the pay-per-view option, we didn't feel the need for Netflix. Customer Service with Netflix was excellent.

I have used both and Netflix is MUCH better. Blockbuster has lousy turn around time expecially if you go through a lot of movies. They bump you down the priority list if they find you are renting more movies then they think you should. With two little ones, we get our 30 minute Barney in the mail, watch it, and it is back in the mail the next day. Blockbuster would take up to two weeks to get me another one. Netflix is always within a few days. I much prefer it!

We have Blockbuster Online and it is great. It does take a few days for the movies to come in, though. And once, we received a movie that wasnt on our list. It was just some random movie. We have now decided to cancel our membership though because we just signed up with Verizon FiOS. It is great because every channel is in HD and my husband has to watch everything in HD on his big screen. They have like 16 different Showtimes, so we figured we didnt need any more movies. We used to have Comcast, but they kept changes the prices halfway into our agreement, then would give us HORRIBLE customer service when we called in to question it. Either way, I would recommend Blockbuster.
Good Luck.

We've used both. I liked Blockbuster fine, but I found that they took too long to get movies to me and to receive them after I watched them. We now use Netflix and have for quite some time now. I get a movie, watch it, send it in the mail Monday morning and have a new movie in my mailbox on Wednesday, if that tells you how fast they are. Their distribution center is in Coppell (the one my movies ship to), so it's really fast. They don't list every single movie on their new release lists sometimes, but you can always find your movies when you search for them by name if you can't find them on the lists. I say go with Netflix -- we love them and I'm sure you would too!

Hi E., We had Netflix for a couple of years and the turnaround was excellent! They always received the movies we sent back the next day, sent us out a new one that day, and then we'd almost always get the new one the day after that. We live in Hurst so I would assume you'd get the same turnaround from Coppell to Carrollton. We stopped using Netflix when we upgraded our cable to include all the movie channels during a "special deal". We'll probably go back to Netflix though once that deal expires. Although, if Blockbuster is cheaper, I may try them instead. For us, it's all about the budget! Good luck!

E. - I currently use Blockbuster - never tried Netflix so don't have opinion. Blockbuster distribution is here in Dallas, so the turnaround that I've experienced is excellent. We will drop them in the mail and receive new ones 2 days later. ALso, our local blockbuster accepts them for return, too, speeding it up. If I drop them off at my blockbuster early in the morning, I will sometimes get a new movie the next day. (I don't know if all Blockbuster stores accept online returns...) The other thing I like about Blockbuster, is you get a free in-store rental per week. This has helped when we've wanted very popular movies that online were on a wait.

Hope my opinion helps - and hopefully, someone will let you know about Netflix so you can make a better decision.

We've been using Nexflix since 1998 and its been great. The customer service is great any scratched DVDs we just get a replacement in a couple of days. The turn around is a couple of days since the disturbuting center is in Coppell. Mail it out on Monday and get a new movie by Wednesday.
We did try the blockbuster but they started to charge us more and we couldnt get a lot of movies(we usually watch 3 a week 1 is a kids movie)They kept changing things and charging late fees even though you were suppose to keep them for as long as you want so we went back to Netflix. We are on the 3 at-a-time (Unlimited) Plan which cost us $19.29 a month.
No late fees and you can keep the movies for a long time. We kept one for almost 2 months (One my DH picked and I didnt care to see)

Enjoy movie night! :)

We use Blockbuster and have for about a year. I have never had a problem. I really like that fact that I can go to the store on Tuesdays and the new release. That is why we choose BB over NF. Turn around time is 2 to 3 days. There are also lots of kids choices. Hope this helps.

Hi, E. --

I've been with Netflix for several years, and really love them. The service is excellent, and turn around times are very fast -- sometimes TOO fast; if we haven't checked our queues, we'll sometimes get a movie that wasn't our TOP priority because they've sent the new film out so quickly!

Someone mentioned the movies on Netflix being "outdated" -- I have never found that to be the case. They get all the new releases at the same time other chains get them, so there is no difference is the availability of "blockbuster" movies.

One of the biggest differences I've seen between Netflix and Blockbuster Online is the selection -- Netflix offers a LOT more movies. Blockbuster tends to have the big hit movies, but their selection of television shows/documentaries, etc leaves a lot to be desired. That was really my main reason for choosing Netflix -- with a family of five, we have a wide variety of viewing preferences, so it's nice to have more options.

One thing I wish Netflix had is the free in-store rentals like Blockbuster has -- but I'm still happy with the choice I've made. If there is ever a night when we want a new movie NOW, we just pick it up at a local video store. It's still cheaper than going out to the movies!

Good luck!

We use Netflix and usually get the movies 2 days after returning the old ones. I think there is a distribution center in Coppell. The only thing that we do not like is that the movies are very outdated, so if you are a movie buff, you have probably seen the ones available. I do not know about Blockbuster.

We do Blockbuster Online and really like it. If we send a movie back, we'll get the next in two days. They also give in-store coupons every month, which is awesome.

Hi E.,
We use Blockbuster and have enjoyed it. The main reason we chose them over Netflicks is every month you get two free rentals at an actual Blockbuster location. Essentially, with the two free rentals, you are getting a cheap deal. All you do is go to the page with your account info and print the coupons. Go to the store, and get two free rentals, I believe new releases or games too.

Well it looks like everyone seems to agree on Netflix. We have been using Netflix for several years now and would NEVER switch back to Blockbuster. They (blockbuster) seem to just LOVE charging you for anything they can. Even if you follow the rules, they would almost always come up with some way to charge us for something. Netflix is the way to go.
